( ACT TWO; CHAPTER THIRTEEN )
" a day in the life "
THANKSGIVING WAS NOT CAMI'S FAVORITE HOLIDAY, BUT SHE DID ENJOY GETTING TO SEE HER FAMILY. This would also be her first holiday coming from Brighton. She missed her dad most of all, his contagious laugh and remarkable jokes.
Waking up, she prepared herself for the tedious plane ride. Her suitcase was already prepared, so all she had to do was make sure her plane bag was ready. Once it was, she straightened up her apartment a last time and headed out.
In her apartment building, she had the loft level, meaning her ceiling was lower, and concrete. She liked the look though, combining it with the crisp white furniture, a few book cases, and lots of plants.
As she arrived at the airport, she sent George and her parents one last text and then headed to her flight. Her headphones played music from her Spotify, keeping her brain working since she was leaving at nearly four in the morning.
The plane ride was excessively long, giving her some time to sleep as well as watch a movie or two. That didn't mean that it wasn't terribly boring, though. Plus, she had never been a huge fan of flying in general. She was always skeptical of the mechanics.
The hair, medium lengthen, was pinned back into a low bun, and she wore George's merchandise as well as some grey joggers. She had grown to love the black hoodie, not only for its quality, but she did enjoy wearing his name proudly.
So, after watching Wonder Woman, Cami faded out of consciousness, hoping to sleep as much as possible until the end of the flight.

After nearly fifteen hours, 900 whole minutes, she was finally in Virginia. She had to admit, she did miss the nostalgic feeling she had when walking into the American airport. Within a matter of seconds, she was being toppled over by a hug. The figure was masked, of course, but she immediately knew it was her mom.
"Bonjour, mama," she whispered, grinning from ear to ear.
"My sweet girl. You need to come home more, we missed you."
Soon another pair of arms wrapped around them both, seemingly her younger brother.
"Louie!!" she exclaimed, looking up at the boy who's face was nearly identical to her's, only he had brown eyes like their mom.
"I haven't seen you in way too long, idiot," he stated, ruffling her hair, taking it out of the bun.
"Piss off," she mumbled, then pulled off of the two of them. She turned and finally saw the man she had been waiting for.
Her dad waited with open arms, hair gone gray, but eyes still as vivid as ever. Cami nearly lurched onto him, barely avoiding knocking him over.
"Hi, sweet pea," he said, tearing up, holding the tiny woman tight to his chest.
"How you been, SB?" she replied. 'SB' was referring to the nickname they had given to each other when she was in high school. It stood for "Sick Bitch," and was formerly the name her dad and her uncle used on one another.
"Not too shabby, not too shabby. Let's go home, kiddo." He messed with her hair just like her brother did, and while they all caught up, the family of four finally left the airport.
When they got home, thanks to the pandemic at hand, they couldn't have anyone else over for Thanksgiving. But they did have lots to talk about, especially with Cami's new life in Brighton.
As they sat down for dinner, the first question she was asked took her by surprise.
"So, any boys back in England?" her mom questioned.
"You don't see her for four months and that's your first question for dinner?" Louie teased, shoving a roll into his mouth.
"Well she's 23! Me and your father got married when I was 22 and he was 25."
"Dear God," Cami muttered sarcastically, shoving her head into her hands while her dad only busted out laughing. He had the funniest laugh she ever knew, a wheeze combined with a witch-like cackle.
"Answer the question, Cam," Louie teased, kicking her leg under the table.
"I did meet a guy. His name is George."
"OOOOOOH! Geeeoorrrrgggeeee!" Her dad's voice echoed off the walls, squealing like a mockingbird.
"Henry! You're gonna burst my eardrums!" Cami's mom scolded, leaning over and swatting her dad with a napkin. This only made him chuckle harder.
"Anyway, tell us about this George."
"Well we met at the little cafe I work at. He's kinda famous, too. He has a big Youtube channel."
Louie choked on the bite of bread. "Wait a second. George...you met in Brighton...are you dating GeorgeNotFound?"
"We're not together, Louie. But yeah, but keep your mouth shut about it," Cami scolded her little brother.
"Oh, that's so cool! I'm happy you found someone. If you two keep going steady, bring him here. But be careful if he's famous. If your personal information gets out, there's no telling what could happen," her dad stated, voice firm and protective.
"I warned him about that. From what I've seen from his fans, they seem to be pretty cool. It's the hateful ones that scare me. I already had to make my account on Instagram private," she said, slightly ashamed.
"Camille..." her mom trailed off, distressed.
"I know, mom. I know. I'll be careful. I promise."
"Yeah, well, if he breaks your heart we're coming to Brighton," Louie joked. "But only if you promise to let me try driving on the right side of the car."
"You are such an idiot."
"Says the one who was a psychology major."
"Oh fuck off, you'll probably drop out of college anyway."
"Both of you, cut it out." Her dad's words silenced their bickering, and Thanksgiving went on as normal as it could. Afterwards, Cami immediately crashed into a deep slumber, the food and the flight taking advantage of her fatigue.
