It was like someone had gathered all the beauty in this world under one roof. The normally quiet and peaceful hall was now buzzing and bustling with chatters and quite giggles. The large two doors leading to the room opened, revealing the King Maker, closely on trial with her best friend.
The nobles fell silent at the sight of her. Such was the respect people had for Sana. She was dressed in a long midnight blue dress that lightened in colour as the dress went lower. With long earrings and her strawberry blonde hair pulled back in an elegant twist, she exuded confidence as her heels clicked on the ground.
The nobles stared wide-eyed at the King Maker, not really believing the fact that they were standing in the same room as Sana, the most trusted and affluential King Maker the Kingdom has known.
Momo stood clad in a pink asymmetrical dress with a black leather belt at her waist and matching high heels. Her dark hair was pulled off her face and held together with a jewel-encrusted clip. Large diamond earrings dangled off her ears, as she took her spot, 2 steps behind Sana.
"Forget the princes, can I court her instead?" Jeeseun whispered to her best friend.
Eunkyung hid her smile with much difficulty. What was with her best friend trying her hardest to make her laugh at these serious moments?
"Welcome Nobles, to the royal palace. It is my great pleasure to see you all here." Sana graciously bowed to the Nobles, making every one of them return the bow.
"I'm pretty sure you all are aware of the reason, why you are here." She scanned all of their faces.
"One piece of advice from me would be, enemies in this palace will gain you nothing. Friendship will prove to be your biggest ally. I hope you all understand."
She said, her eyes speaking more words than her mouth did.
"Thank you for all the wait, we will lead you to the ballroom soon," Momo announced, making the room collectively suck in a harsh breath.
"Till then, please make yourself comfortable." With that Sana and Momo left the room.
"THEY ARE SOO BEAUTIFUL!" Momo whispered and yelled, the second they were a safe distance away from the room, in a chamber that Sana had prepared. "EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!"
"True that!" Sana nodded. She felt like she'd seen a room full of Aphrodites just now.
"But you know there's more to them, don't you?" She glanced at Momo. "Is that why you put them in the same room?" Momo's eyes widened, as she took a seat. Sana just smiled, sipping her flute of Mimosa.
"Isn't she like the most beautiful person on this planet?" Sora exclaimed, looking at Park Chaewon, who dreamily nodded.
"Isn't everyone the most beautiful person to you?" Yuriko scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"And why do you think she's talking to you?" Han Chaewon glared at the younger noble. "Mind your own business would ya?!"
Yuriko just scoffed, turning away from them, already disliking the girls around her.
"Damn, I'm in love!" Jina sighed, dreamily staring into nowhere. "Already?" Jieun laughed, softly. Her soft features glowed under the chandelier light, as she turned to take a seat.
"What are you gonna do when Prince Felix comes in front of you?" Jina clutched her heart and fell back on the couch, making the girls around them giggle at her cuteness.
"Isn't it scary though?" Risa said, gaining all of the attention.
"All of us are gonna meet the princes soon enough, and 8 of us will be the future Queen of this Kingdom." She shuddered at the thought.
"It gives me chills!" Haeun said, agreeing to what Risa said.
"If it scares you that much..." Ryanne looked up from her glass. "Why are you here?"
Haeun turned to look her straight in the eye. "Just because it scares me, doesn't mean I'm gonna run from it," Ryanne smirked looking away.
"Come on guys!" Sora stood up suddenly,
"Who knows of the future? We're here for the experience, not to make rivals."
"You're right, we shouldn't be fighting right now." Wonhan nodded in agreement.
"Speak for yourself!" Yuriko scoffed from the other side. "I'm here to take the throne and my prince."
The girls suddenly fell silent, Sora's eyes went wide! Just what was this kid's problem?
"Sheesh, kid! Who peed on your breakfast this morning?" Yun Hyeok asked, tilting her head. The look in her eyes was mocking interest and that gaze was enough to piss Yuriko off!
"You!" She stomped her foot, "How dare you talk to me like that?!"
"What you gonna do little girl!" Han Chaewon raised her eyebrows, "Tell your daddy about us? Well, guess what?!" She clapped her hands right in front of Yuriko's face.
"Daddy ain't here to save you. So shut up if you can't speak like a civilized person."
The girls stared at Chaewon with different types of looks in their eyes, but it was clear that she was not to be messed with.
Yuriko stomped her foot, darting past everyone to sulk in one corner.
"What's with that girl?" Yeseul whispered to Park Chaewon. "Trust me, I'm as clueless as you are." She answered, very confused. "Looks like someone thought this was gonna be her little castle." Yukiyo snickered, loving all the drama
"Just you guys wait. I'll get back at you guys." Yuriko grumbled,
What a grumpy man-child!
"Sora's right!" Wonhan nodded. "We don't even know who's gonna be the Queen. We just know that it's gonna be someone among us. So, what's the use of picking up useless fights? Or even making enemies? Don't you remember what Sana said?" She glanced at everyone.
"Friends are what will be useful for us. Not enemies."
"What if neither is helpful for us?" Ryanne asked, lazily shaking her glass. "What if one man is for themselves at this one? This whole arrangement does promise a large prize."
"One thing you need to understand is..." Eunkyung spoke up from her corner. "This is not a game. The Princes are not prizes that are to be won. This is just the Kingmaker's attempt at assuring that the kingdom gets their worthy queen and the princes meet their desired life partner. So, stop thinking you're in here fighting for a prize and everyone in here is your enemy."
She was silent amidst all the chaos and she meant to keep it that way. But watching someone talk like the Princes were some prize displayed for the victor pissed her off.
Ryanne was going to talk back but she soon realized that the woman in front of her was right. And as much as she didn't trust anyone, she was not the one to talk back to someone who was right; just for the heck of it!
"Why is it not a competition?" Yuriko suddenly spoke out, "We're all here because we want the throne. And we're not the only ones wanting that. So, why is it not a competition?"
"Here's the thing kid," This was the first time Hajun had opened her mouth and by the looks of it, she was about to spit fire!
"You might be here for the throne but not everything and everyone has to follow your principles and thoughts. Not everyone is here for the throne. And by this time, you might have realized that every time you open that pretty mouth of yours, you oh so conveniently start a knife fight and end up on the losing side.
So, better make your choices carefully."
That shut Yuriko up completely. "Yuriko, quieten down, will you?" Jieun hissed, clearly embarrassed.
"As Hajun said, not everyone wants the throne," Jeseun said. "I personally could care less for the throne or the Prince. All I'm here for is the experience and to support my best friend."
"Then why are even here competing? Shouldn't you be ready with your handful of flower petals waiting to shower over your best friend and her future husband?" Ryanne mocked raising an eyebrow.
"I could be doing that and your Prince would still choose me over you." Ryanne silently gasped before going quiet. Jeseun was dangerous when she wanted to be.
"Guys, seriously stop it!" Han Chaewon said loudly, cutting through the buzzing tension in the room. It was suffocating.
"We're here literally minutes from meeting the Princes for the first time and it seems like, you guys are trying your hardest to not kill each other. Quit it, seriously!" Jieun added.
Jieun generally was quiet and soft but the tension in the room was pissing her off too.
"If it's a competition, then so be it a competition for you. If it's not, then it's not. Just don't start a cat fight and embarrass the heck out of the rest of us." Wonhan announced, loudly. "It's not your house. It's the palace. You mess up, we all mess up. Keep that in mind."
With that, silence took over the chamber, but the tension was still there.
"Do you realize that you just made a viper's pit in there?" Momo asked Sana wide-eyed.
They could hear the conversations from the next room, thanks to the thin walls.
"Actually, I just found out the vipers." Sana smirked, feeling accomplished with herself.
She had succeeded in bringing the Ares out of these Aphrodites.
Putting 16 girls with 16 different personalities in one room, was a risky decision but it was important to know their real attitudes.
Now she knew them like she wanted to know them.
"Come on," She got up from the couch. "We gotta check up on the boys."
Momo followed behind wordlessly, wondering why the heck was her best friend, smirking soo hard.
