ACT I | Avengers
chapter twelve. THE AVENGERS
Yeah? Get in line.
THE CAPTAIN AND ANNE SPARED A GLANCE TO EACHOTHER. It wasn't until the former nodded his head when the girl began to become confused. He inched closer to the woman, and placed his hands on her waist. This isn't the time for dancing! That's when the Captain squeezed her closer to him, their bodies pressed together. Anne was going to say something sarcastic, like 'this is hardly the time to get romantic'. But, she barely had any time when Steve threw himself, along with Anne glued to his chest, down below the bridge.
With a terrifying scream, the two rolled dropped down on a bus that caught their fall. It was far from over though. More aliens flew through and caught notice of the red, white, and blue man along with a woman clad in white. They began to fire their missiles at them, but the captain was too quick. Letting go of his grip of Anne, the two ran towards the ground. When the fire tickled their arms and the skin and as they neared the end of the bus, the captain jumped off with Anne closely following him. Fire raged behind them as everything blew up.
Steve glanced backwards towards the woman, noticing the ships heading in closer to them. His hand quickly gripped her own, and just at the right time. The blasts shot towards their feet, causing the bus underneath them to blow up. It sent up the two people in the air, swinging their legs back and forth at the sudden impact. Their legs ended up on top of the yellow taxi which ended up blowing up due to the impact of the bus blowing up. Lots of blowing up. Anyways, just when Anne thought her life was safe and when she felt the man loose grip of her palm, she felt the side of her back burn. The aliens kept blasting towards the captain and the woman, leaving no mercy.
As they continued to run, the two jumped over any cars, any obstacle courses. When the aliens ventured too close, Steve would pull harder to get Anne away from danger. She would thank him, but the growing pain and the red to show it was growing rapidly. It made her a little annoyed, but she's not dead thanks to him. Right? The aliens didn't care if the both of them died. In fact, they had changed from their fiery, yellow blasts to sharp blue bullets. Was it worse than before? I'm not sure. But, it still made Anne fear it.
The two soon came to the center of this war. Police men were scattered throughout, panic expressions being worn. Their little bullets did nothing against the alien tech. It was clear that this was way out of their pay grade, and they weren't exactly trained for these circumstances. They were busy trying to fend themselves from the aliens while others were busy bringing civilians to safety. And oh the civilians. It made both the Captain and Anne tremble at the sight of them. Their screams of pure terror, some even belonging to infants who seemed like they were separated from their parents. Anne didn't waste a second before she ran to a group of three children huddled underneath damaged taxi, falling apart.
A girl with dark skin and dark eyes, who seemed not even five years old, gripped her blanket as hard as she could. Tears were streaming down her eyes and her throat was beginning to feel hoarse. Another child beside her was a boy, about eight years old. His green eyes were growing dark, his pale skin had red streaks covering it. He had his arms wrapped around another boy who was identical to him, but younger by a couple years. And none of these three children were accompanied by an adult.
As soon as Anne reached their little corner, she reached out for the brown eyed girl who didn't hesitate to wrap her arms around the woman's neck as she buried her face into her. The toddler's body shook violently, weeping loudly. While holding her in her arms, Anne reached out for the other two boys. They were frozen in shock and looked like they didn't seem to trust her at all. But, Anne muttered reassuring things underneath her breath, loud enough for the both of them to hear her. The eldest one looked down to his sibling and the two shared an understanding nod before grabbing onto the woman's hands as tight as they could.
In a nearby area, not even a few yards away, stood Captain America. He stood tall on a police car, his eyes scanning every single cop in front of him as he barked out orders to them. They were all skeptical of the 40s hero who recently came back from the dead. I mean, look it at it from their point of view. They have been holding this fort up pretty good. They didn't need any superhero's coming in and taking command. Well, that's what the police thought until they saw the American Golden Man swing his shield towards an incoming alien. A captain started to stutter until he repeated the orders that were given to him by Rogers.
Anne looked away from the scene in front of her at the sound of shouting. She was getting ready to fight against aliens until she saw two parents, one a mother (with dark skin identical to the girl) and the other a father (with green watering eyes) were running with open arms towards her. It took no genius to know that these were indeed the parents to the children Anne held so dearly to her. With a small breath, she let go of the kids and watched as they ran towards their parents, shouting and crying with happiness and fear.
Suddenly, Steve Rogers appears panting by the woman. "I got the police building a permitter all the towards 39th and getting civilians off of the street."
"Good." Anne sighed to herself with worry. "This is hell."
Steve quickly glanced towards the bridge where they had just kept off of, where two assassins were fighting for their lives. "I think he'll moved up there."
The woman followed his line of gaze where bullets rung in the air. Arrows were seen floating in the sky followed by a loud explosion. "Maybe we should help?" She raised an eyebrow.
•
THE WOMAN WITH FIERY HAIR ALONG WITH A FIERY SOUL LEPT ONTO THE ALIEN'S BACK, STEERING HER DAGGER INTO HIS NECK. Sparks went off all around him, or her, or... did these aliens even have a gender? In a nearby area, Hawkeye was thrown to the ground as a robot gripped its body onto the hero. In the quick moment where he had to decide what he wanted to do to save his life, he reached for the arrows hidden in his quiver and planted it right into the alien's chest. As the creature fell limp, Clint threw him to the side. He wanted to take a moment of rest, but all the events happening around him didn't want the same thing.
Three of the chitari landed on a nearby become, crushing the hood of it. They were bulkier than the rest of them, stronger. Clint took this as his moment to raise his bow towards them. But, behind him was a widow trying her best to attack two aliens. The Hawkeye quickly drew his attention to behind him and shot his available arrows. It proved to be a big mistake. The other three inches closer and closer till they got a foot away. Clint thought that was it. He was surely going to die. In the next moment, a flash of red, white, and blue smashed on top of two of the aliens' head. Two more were nearby, but a bright blue shield illuminating bright lights shoved them hard towards the ground, leaving a deep crater in the concrete.
Just when the Hawkeye and the Widow thought that was all the help they were going to get (no matter how grateful they were to receive it), a flash of blue lighting rained upon a group of the enemy. As they began to crumble to the ground in an instant, a man with a red cape floating behind him, metal armor intricately woven into his breastplate, and a hammer in his right arm hailed from the sky. He dropped onto the ground, using the taxi beside him as support. He looked tired, gray dust splattered across his face, his stormy blue eyes turning darker.
As all the heroes (including Steve Rogers, Thor Odinson, Clint Barton, Anne Robinson, and Natasha Romanoff) all gathered close to each-other and the Captain was the first to speak. "What's the story upstairs?" He nodded to the fake sky with a large black hole outlined in a magical blue.
"The power surrounding the cube is impenetrable." Thor hopelessly let out his tired breath.
A voice soon spoke over all the intercoms and everyone gazed to the sky in hopes to see a bright metal suit flying in the air. "Thor is right, we gotta deal with these guys."
Natasha furrowed her eyebrows. "How do we do this?"
"As a team." Steve confirmed, his voice laced in hope and power.
Anne rolled her eyes at this. "Friendships magic, y'all."
Thor rocked on his heels as he turned to face her, his eyebrows raised in confusion and disappointment. We are in the midst of battle and she uses humor? He spoke silently to himself. With a shrug of his shoulders, he looked back over to Rogers. "I have unfinished business with Loki."
Clint behind the group stood tall, twiddling with some of the arrows he had picked up from the ground when he shot in the mists of the battle. He looked over to the god of the thunder, eyebrows raised in an unimpressed manner. "Yeah? Get in line."
"Save it." The captain aggressively announce. He started to make his way towards the two standing close to each other, Anne and Clint. "Loki is going to keep this fight focused on us and that's what we need. Without him, these things could run wild. We got Stark up top, he's going to need us to-" Just as he was going to command the group on what to do next, a motor was heard. Everyone glanced behind the Captain.
And there he was.
Bruce freaking Banner.
On a motorcycle.
To say everyone was a little surprised was an understatement. They weren't expecting the hulk or the doctor to make an appearance in New York City. They were expecting him to be lost at sea or something like that. And to be honest, Anne was a little hesitant on the doctor now. A man who could stretch his skin as it turned into green and morph into a dark, malicious monster who killed on sight. At any moment, he could turn into... well... him. And at any moment, this would be the right moment to turn into the green monster. Not back at the helicarrier.
Banner gazes around the damage all around him, nodding with uncertainty. "So... this all seems horrible."
Natasha nodded with her red short hair flinging. "I've seen worse."
"Sorry." Bruce apologized. Flashbacks of the incident back at the SHIELD helicarrier flashed across his mind. The screaming. The terror. It all came from Natasha.
"No-" The red head shook her head. "We could use a little worse."
Steve pressed the side of his ear gently. "Stark. We got him." He confirmed.
"Banner?"
"Just like you said." Steve sent a smile towards the man sitting on the motor.
"Tell him to suit up. I'm bringing the party to you."
With a large crash, the whole group turned their heads towards where they heard the sound. And within the next moment, a flash of a metal suit came flying in between building with a large, skinny, worm-like alien called the Leviathan. It kept thrashing its body onto the sides of the tall building without a care in the world. It was more focused on its hunger for the Iron Man. The hero draws closer to the ground with the worm following him closely, skimming the edge of the concrete. Knowing what was needed next, Banner sighed loudly and turned towards the creature.
Natasha furrowed her eyebrows. "I- I don't see how that's a party." She silently murmured.
"Doctor Banner," Steve drew his attention towards the man. "Now would be a good time to get angry."
As he continued to walk towards the danger, Bruce glanced back towards the Captain. "That's my secret, Cap. I'm always angry."
The purple shirt widened and tore apart, as the green began to paint across his skin like a virus. (Which made Anne wonder how his pants stood intact but his shirt did not. Was his pants also affected by whatever made Banner the Hulk?) His hair grew darker, and it grew more matted. And his sweet, soft voice now growled and roared loudly. The man that was once in front of him was no longer Bruce Banner, but now the monster called the Hulk. And like Natasha had said earlier, they could use a little worse. They could use the Hulk.
When his form was finally done growing, his fist balled up and punched the work like alien straight in the face. The power he had made him firm on his feet, having then glued to the ground as the alien kept pushing. The front of alien had managed to stop. But the rest of the body stood up straight in the air and began to fall down backwards, right where the rest of the Avengers were standing. The captain shielded Natasha and himself underneath his vibranuim shield, Thor held his hammer up high, and Clint and Anne hid behind a nearby vehicle. Iron Man stood floating in the air. He held up his arm and fired blasts towards the falling alien. The armor began to crumble off of the enemy and it steered towards the right of the bridge.
The loud sheer noise of high pitched screams echoed throughout the air. Nearby, aliens hung high on the buildings, absolutely distraught that one of the keys they need to win this war fell to the ground so easily. This only empowered the Avengers.
This is it.
Six people teamed together to destroy a god and his army. A widow who came from the depths of hell, trained to be a ruthless assassin. A Captain who was a 1940s soldier was frozen for over 70 years only to uncovered just recently. A billionaire, playboy, philanthropist who was kidnapped in the Middle East and created a suit of armor with only scraps he had in a small workshop and his brain to escape the torture he had endured. An assassin who spent his whole life in the SHIELD academy using only his arrows and bow to become an assassin. A god who fell from the Asgardian heavens to retrieve a hammer blessed by Odin himself. A doctor who tried to recreate the super soldier serum only to infect himself with the green monster. And a woman who used her degree to build a machine that can travel throughout the multiverse.
And who were they?
The Avengers.

One more chapter! Then we done! I know it is a very short chapter. But the last sentence was such a good sentence to end on. So... yeah.
Also, I'm planning for the next universe and I want to know your thoughts! They consist of four charcters. I'll only share two characters for this chapter!
