"You do realize we are in a world crisis right now and you want a sucker?"
ANNE WAS IMMEDIATELY USHERED TO the lab. The red head, Agent Romanoff, the same one that had led Doctor Banner to the lab was doing the same for Anne. They walked together in comfortable silence with the agent making an occasional quip and Anne being absolutely baffled by the sight in front of her.
"Doctor Robinson?" The voice pulled Anne's eyes away from all the things to the red head who was speaking. "What exactly do you have your PhDs in?" The red head asked with a smile that made Anne question a lot of thing. Am I doing something wrong? She asked herself.
"I have three." Anne began to explain as she ticked off each finger as she went on. "One in Quantum Physics, one in advanced mathematics, and another in engineering. I'm a NASA scientist on top of all of that." She excitedly said. Her hands began to shake with happiness as she neared all the labs. She could see all the fun gadgets and scientists in there and it made her overjoyed.
"You are a smart kid aren't you." Agent Romanoff stopped at a doorway and Anne followed suit. The brunette saw the familiar doctor who wore the purple button up dashing around the room while looking at all the trinkets cluttering the area. Anne had guessed this is where she was going to do research. With two brilliant minds, they could get the task done immediately.
"I don't think I'm a kid." Anne furrowed her eyebrows. "I am 24 years old." She looked up to agent who stood there with feet apart and arms crossed in a very serious manner. Anne had to push back the urge to copy the woman's stance.
"And I am 28 years old." The agent paused. "We have some lollipops in the back. Want some?" The red head peered to the left of her to find Anne's reaction remained the same as it was a couple seconds ago. Oh- she was teasing Anne. Except Anne ignored it and was slowly clicking her tongue as she pressed her lips into a tight, fine line. This was not humorous at all. "Maybe we have some of the ones with the gum in the middle."
"Really?" Anne perked up at this. "I'll only take blue raspberry. Or strawberry. Blue berry could work as well. Just not grape. It's disgusting." The woman stuck out her tongue in disgust as she thought about the lollipops. Then the agent started chuckle at this reaction. "I'm really passionate about my food, Agent Romanoff." She clutched her satchel harder, hoping she wouldn't be embarrassed about this in the future.
"Me too." The agent said. "You can call me Natasha, Doctor Robinson." Natasha held out her hand and the Anne copied her. They began to shake with Anne beaming as hard as she could. When the two let go, the doctor turned to the lab, letting out a huge, exasperated sigh as she did so. It all seemed very intimidating now that she had a closer look at it.
"Then call me Anne." She kindly said. The agent motioned for her to move forward and she obeyed the command. But not before Anne had said one more thing to her. "I would really like a sucker if you have one." She smirked.
"You do realize we are in a world crisis right now and you want a sucker?" Natasha furrowed her eyebrows at the question she was just asked. Doctor banner perked up at the new voices and began to snicker at their conversation they were having. Yet, the two ignored him and kept on talking like normal.
"What does that have to do with me having a sucker?" Anne furrowed her eyebrows in confusion while turning over to the red head. "We are in a world crisis, not a sucker crisis." She chuckled aloud.
Natasha bowed her head. "Well, Doctor, it was nice seeing you again. I wish we could have seen each other under different circumstances." She gave a slight smile. Her pearly white shone bright along with her green sparkling eyes. Anne was proved to be wrong. Underneath that intimidating stare, there was a soft woman who probably saw that Anne was nervous.
"Thank you agent. Maybe after all of this we could get ice cream." Anne bowed her head, gripping her satchel tight as she walked into the large lab. It was big. Bigger than her own lab back in Portland. There were all sorts of gadgets she had only heard of, not seen. They looked very expensive as well. Back in her lab, they weren't as rich as other labs. The world didn't think that a portal to other universes was exactly what they needed. Especially with a new Norse god on the loose. Scratch that. Two Norse gods.
The tesseract. The very thing she needed for Project Orphic to work. And Anne was searching for it. This could work. She could search for it and when Loki attacks, let's be honest he's the villain and all villains do that (Think of The incredibles. Syndrome found their home and attacked their weak point), she could steal the tesseract and bring it to her lab. Then, she could have all the money she needed to find Andrew. It all depended on the tesseract and her Uncle Nick.
"It's amazing. Isn't it." Anne turned around to find Doctor Bruce Banner holding a pencil as he looked around the lab with her. "I think we should be a bale to find the tesseract in no time." His brown eyes met her own.
"Yes." Anne nodded. She went to the nearest chair and plopped her satchel right on it. "Do they have the spectrometers set up?" She asked.
Doctor Banner peered over a nearby minute that was being held by a stick from the ceiling. He adjusted his glasses, squinting his eyes as he read. "Uh- A couple of labs set them up. I can't pick up any gamma radiation rays yet. Which is strange. An object that powerful should be found... instantly." The doctor seemed puzzled by the whole thing. He stared at the screen, seemingly forgetting about Anne who stood there timidly.
"Well-" Anne walked over to the other side where the Banner stood. She studied it along with him as well, trying to find any enormous change in the waves. "Anything small, we need to investigate it. I guess." She trialed off as she looked over to Banner who gave her a look that exclaimed 'You guess?' "Well, not I guess. It's just, I've never dealt with gamma radiation. I don't know why I am being tasked to do this to be honest."
"I know all about gamma radiation." Banner sighed. "You, Doctor Robinson, are looking at the human form of gamma radiation." The man waved his arms up and down like a show girl on Jeopardy would do to the letters on the board. Anne furrowed her eyebrows at this and Banner saw this a replicated her facial expressions. "You know? Have- Have you read anything about me?"
Anne slowly shook her head No in confusion. "I have read about you. You are Doctor Banner. The man with seven PhDs. The man who tried to replicate the serum that was used on Steve Rogers. You are the world's famous scientist who can achieve the impossible!" She ranted with a gigantic smile. "Sorry. It's just- you are my childhood hero. I used to read newspapers about you all the time. You were the one that influenced my decision to go into the science field."
Doctor Banner nodded. "Uh- It's nice to have someone who likes Bruce Banner and not the other guy." He said, nonchalantly, then went back to what he was doing before Anne had entered. Which was stare at the screen. Anne copied him, and studied the screen as well to search for any abnormal waves.
But, Anne couldn't help but ask herself what he meant by the other guy. Did he mean a friend? Maybe he met the man he came here with: the man with the brown leather jacket, blonde sandy hair, and blue bright eyes. Maybe him. She stopped herself thinking any further because she had a mission: find the tesseract.
"Have you ever heard about the tesseract before?" Doctor Banner asked. What a coincidence. He had a smile on his face when he showed the bright, glowing blue cube that Anne was well familiar with by now.
"No." Anne lied. She quickly turned around. She didn't want the doctor to see the growing blush on her cheek or how she was fiddling with her fingers. Those were instant tells for lies. One thing about her is that she is a terrible liar. Her siblings would always make fun of her whenever she lied. Sometimes, she would laugh and smile when lying other times her eyes would widen. So wide, she looked like Lucille Ball.
Suddenly, Anne heard a loud clanking sound come from the door way. The two turned their heads to find a few large suckers on a metal cabinet. Anne smiled softly at this. No red head was in sight. Doctor Banner cocked his head in confusion at this as Anne reached one and unwrapped it with ease. As she popped it in her mouth, she mumbled something incoherently.
"What?" Banner asked. His eyebrows were furrowed into his squinted eyes. He fiddled around with one of the buttons on his purple shirt.
Anne popped the sucker out of her mouth, her tongue already stained with blue. "Agent Romanoff delivered some suckers for me. I asked. I received." Anne shrugged "Want one?" The girl reached for the other two suckers, hiding it in her hand as she showed the great doctor her prized possessions.
"Do you have grape?" Doctor Banner adjusted his glasses to get a better looks at the two suckers. But he inevitably couldn't read it that far away.
"No." Anne gave a a sweet smile even though deep down she wanted to give a disgusted look because he liked the flavor ugh grape. "Sorry. I didn't ask for grape. I have strawberry and blueberry? Will those work?" Anne walked closer to the doctor and gave both of them to him as he closely inspected it.
Silently, the doctor took the blueberry one, unwrapped, and popped it in his mouth. So the two got to work. All they did was stare at the waves hoping that something would pop up. It was like that for what seemed hours. Neither of them were a talkative type. They were more introverts than they were extroverts. Well, except for when Anne is talking about things she is passionate about, then she could go on and on and on and never stop.
They spent hours searching. Then suddenly, a phone nearby beeped loudly. Both Anne and Banner looked over to each other in confusion until the man swept the phone into his hands and answering it. "Hello?" Banner asked. Anne could only help but watch him. She couldn't hear anything. So she studied the the doctors facial expressions until he placed the phone down after he said a quick thank you.
"They found Loki."
