"Seeing, still working on believing."

You didn't really care about state traffic. You were too busy running from these robot figures that seemed to just fall from the sky. You had just gotten work at one of the Stark offices, when one of these robots crashed through the office block window, followed shortly by the Black Widow and Captain America.

They told you all to evacuate the city, but with your papa living right in the middle of the battle, you had to go back and get him out.

Dodging the cyborg parts flying over your head, you ducked behind an overturned truck. Waiting for the coast to clear, you dashed down the street. Ducking and dodging, stopping to catch your breath, you failed to notice one of the robots staggering up behind you.

Whizzing around, you screamed as it reached out to grab you. Closing your eyes and waiting for the impact, you opened them again when it failed to happen. For implanted in the cyborg's chest, was the famous shield, behind it, its star-spangled owner.

In shock, your hero standing right in front of you, you could only watch as he yanked his shield out and secured it back on his arm.

"You have to leave the city, it's not safe for civilians" Captain America tried to explain, hitting another robot as it flew in.

"I can't, I've got to get to my papa" you pleaded, ready to rush off again when the Captain's strong arm had you back.

"You can't, it's too dangerous" he argued back, but you couldn't let your papa die, not like your mama.

Before you had time to refuse, you were pushed down, you're (H/C) covering the blush as Captain America lay on top of you. A swarm of these machines flew by over your heads, the sound of metal deafening to the ear. When you got back up, the Cap started to fight off more metal machines.

Taking this opportunity, you dashed away downtown, praying that your papa will be ok, ignoring the Captains calls,

"Ma'am!"

Coming up to your papa's apartment block, your (E/C) widened, the building covered by ruble and huge holes in the walls.

Making your way up what was left of the staircase, you stopped when you noticed the apartment door was open. Carefully making your way inside, you cried out when you saw your papa on the ground, covered by bricks and dried mortar.

Rushing over to try and push the ruble off your papa, you cried when you felt no pulse. He was gone, just like your mama. Crying over his body, a half-destroyed droid crawled it's way over to you, ready to make you it's next victim.

But just as it was about to strike, a vibranium shield sliced off its head, the sound of it rolling beside you, startling you.

When you turned around, you noticed the glamour pants standing in all his heroic glory. Refusing to look at him, you turn your attention back to your papa, rubbing some dust off his face.

Unable to contain your tears, you break down, not caring who saw you. After a few moments, you feel a soft pat on your shoulder, bringing you some comfort.

"I'm truly am sorry (Y/N)" The captain helped you up, looking sympathetically into your (E/C) eyes, gently wiping away a stray tear.

Only now did you register he called you by name.

"(Y/N)? How do you know my name?" you questioned Captain America, not understanding how he would know a civilian like you.

"From the moment I saw you in the Stark tower, I had to know you, so I did a little background check" he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, laughing at the end also causing you to join in.

"You looked me up-" you were about to finish when the ground beneath you started to shake.

"The building is about to collapse" Cap illustrated getting ready to leave, but he noticed you weren't moving.

You couldn't leave your papa here.

"(Y/N), we have to leave now" the captain urged you to leave and finally, you accepted, knowing that your papa wouldn't have wanted you to risk your life for him in such a way.

Running down the crumbling staircase, you just managed to make it out when the apartment structure collapsed in on itself. The force of the ruble tumbling down pushing you both to the ground, this time you lay on top of the star-spangled man, his shield covering you both from flying debris.

When the dust settled, you couldn't help but cry, the memories of your mama and papa resurfacing. The captain, being the perfect gentleman just held you while you wept.

You felt so safe in his strong arms and your heart fluttered when he placed a soft kiss on your forehead. You knew that with Papa and mama gone now, the captain would help you through it.

You rolled off him, letting him get to his feet, before planting a gentle kiss on his cheek, your token of appreciation for what he's done for you.

With that, he led you back to the Avengers tower, his arm wrapped protectively, never going to let any harm come to again, under his watchful and loving eyes.
