It had been a while since the walkers invaded Alexandria. Everyone had worked together to rebuild their community. Carl was fine, alive. And everyone was thankful that he was.
Jaycee and others had fixed up hers and Adeline's house, which she was thankful for.
They had built Alexandria up again, and everything was good, better, Even. And Maggie was pregnant. So Jaycee helped her anyway she could.
Rick and Daryl were on their usual hunts for things, food, medicine, all that sorts. So, Jaycee had offered to look after Judith whilst Rick was gone.
She loved looking after Judith, ever since the prison. Jaycee sat in her room as she rocked Judith in her arms, humming a song she use to sing to Adeline when she was a baby.
But hours later, Rick and Daryl didn't come back with anything, accept a man. Who was knocked out cold.
And the man had woke up, and got into ricks house. Everyone had woken up, going to see what the fuss was.
Jaycee walked behind Daryl up the stairs, pistol in her hand as Glenn and Maggie followed.
"It's..it's okay." A topless Michonne raised her hand at the group as a topless Rick stood beside her.
"You owe me a coke." Jaycee whispered to Glenn, who sighed. Jaycee could see Rick and Michonne getting together for ages.
"You said we should talk." Rick spoke to Jesus, not phased with the guns pointed at him from front and behind. "So let's talk."
And they did.
They sat him down at the table as Rick asked questions. "So, how'd you get out?" Rick asked him.
"One guard can't cover two exits." Jesus shrugged his shoulders as Daryl walked behind him. "Or third floor windows. Knots untie and locks get picked. Entropy comes from order, right?"
"Right." Daryl grunted as Jesus turned to him. Jaycee crossed her arms over her chest as she leaned back in the chair, analysing the man.
"I checked out your arsenal." Jesus added. "I haven't seen anything like that in a long time." He chucked as everyone sat up. "You're well-equipped, but your provisions are low."
"Thanks, we'll keep note of that." Jaycee cleared her throat, nodding her head with a sarcastic smile.
"Yeah." He nodded at her before turning to Rick. "Very low for the amount of people you have. 54?"
"More than that." Maggie answered from beside Glenn.
"Well, I appreciate the cookie." Jaycee almost laughed at his comment, dipping her head down as Abraham nudged her back, making her tilt her head and glare at him. "My compliments to the chef."
"Yeah, she ain't here." Daryl quickly cut him off, making Jesus look up at him.
Jesus sighed as he sat up. "Look, we got off to a bad start. But we're on the same side...the living side." He turned to Daryl fully. "You and Rick had every reason to leave me out there, but you didn't. I'm from a place that's a lot like this one." He revealed. "Part of my job is searching out other Settlements to trade with. I took your truck because my community needs things, and both of you looked like trouble. I was wrong." He shared a glance between Rick and Daryl. "You're good people. And this is a good place. I think our communities may be in a position to help each other."
"Do you have food?" Glenn spoke up, hand still on his gun, incase jesus made a sudden move.
"We started to raise livestock. We scavenge, we grow." Jesus answered him. "Everything from tomatoes to sorghum."
"Tell us why we should believe you." Rick turned to him, tilting his head as he raised his hand from the table.
"I'll show you. If we take a car, I can take you back home in a day. And you can all see for yourselves who we are and what we have to offer." Jesus suggested. Jaycee liked that idea. There were other communities with people, survivors. They could all help each other.
"Wait, you're looking for more settlements." Maggie asked him as they turned to her. "You mean you're already trading with other groups?"
"Your worlds about to get a whole lot bigger." Jesus smirked as he leaned back.
Jaycee wanted to go see this other settlement. But Adeline wanted to come, but Jaycee didn't want her to come Incase it doesn't turn out right. She didn't want to put her in danger.
So Adeline agreed to stay back at Alexandria with Carl and Judith. "So, can I ask one question?" Jaycee spoke as she looked at Jesus, who turned to her.
"Sure." He shrugged his shoulders as Jaycee sighed.
"Is your name actually Jesus?" Jaycee asked with a raised brow, titling her head in curiosity. This made Jesus let out a laugh. "What?"
"No, it's not." He shook his head with a smile. "It's Paul Rovia." He told her as she slowly nodded her head.
"Okay, but, why do you go by Jesus? Were you crucified on a cross, or...?" Jaycee tilted her head. She was genuinely curious.
But before he could answer, Rick made a sudden turn, which made everyone frown, looking over at the front. "Yo, Rick. What's going on?" Daryl grunted as he looked out of the window.
"We got a crash ahead. Looks like it just happened." He said as Jaycee got up, leaning over Michonne's seat and looking at the wreck.
"It's one of ours." Jesus spoke up as he moved towards the rv door, getting out and going towards the car wreck.
Jaycee grabbed her pistol, leaving her sniper behind as she followed Jesus off of the rv. "If this is a trick, it won't end well for you." Rick threatened, gun pointed to Jesus' face.
"My people are in trouble." Jesus pointed to the car with a worried expression. "They don't...we don't have a lot of fighters I know how it looks, but I'll play it out. Can I borrow a gun." He held his hand out.
"No." Daryl shook his head, speaking up immediately. "We got tracks right here." He pointed to the floor.
They followed the tracks until they came across a hut in the woods. Rick banged on the door, gun in his hands.
"They gotta be in there." Jesus said as they all stood, waiting for someone to open the door.
"We moving in or what?" Abraham asked Rick, hand on his gun.
"How do we know this ain't firecrackers in a trash can?" Daryl walked behind Jesus and towards Rick.
"You don't." Jesus sighed as he dropped his hands.
"We'll get your people." Rick nodded his head at Jesus. "You're staying here with one of us."
Jesus turned around as Michonne spoke. "That's the deal."
"Will you stay?" Glenn asked Maggie.
"I'll stay with her." Jaycee added as Rick sent her a nod, Jaycee placing her gun in her waistband and moving over to Jesus. "Come on buddy. We are your new baby sitters." She sarcastically said, tapping his shoulder as Rick put handcuffs on him.
"Just hurry." Jesus told them, eyes on the door.
"You hear me whistle, shoot him." Rick told the two women, who nodded their heads.
"I will." Maggie said as she held her gun, the rest of the group walking into the hut, closing the door behind them.
After a while, the group came out of the hut with Jesus' people. They all huddled back into the rv.
Until they got stuck in mud.
What a day. Rick revved but there was no use. They were stuck.
"Great. Now we have to dig the tv out of the mud, wonderful." Jaycee mumbled behind Abraham. "You can do it, you have the muscle. I have the brains."
"You got shit all in that head of yours." The redhead retorted as Jaycee opened her mouth to say something, but closed it, turning away as Abraham let out a chuckle.
"It's no worries. We're here." Jesus stood up with a smile, looking out of the window before getting out of the rv
Jaycee followed, grimacing at the mud as she carefully stepped around it, looking up to see the wooden walls of the community. "That's us." Jesus told them. "That's the hilltop."
Jaycee put her gun away as she followed everyone else, towards the gate of hilltop as Jesus lead the way.
"Stop right there." Someone said as everyone raised their guns.
"Woah!" Jesus held up his hands.
"You gonna make us." Darly grumbled up at the man on the lookout.
"Jesus, what the hell is this?" The man asked the Jesus as they looked down.
"Open the gates, cal. Freddie's hurt." Jesus told his people. "Look, sorry about these guys." Jesus turned to them. "They get antsy standing up there all day doing nothing."
"They give up the weapons. Then we'll open the gates." Cal said to Jesus as Jaycee sighed, rubbing her hands over her face.
"Why don't you come down here and get 'em?" Daryl threatened them, gun aimed high.
"Gentlemen, look, we vouch for these people, all right?" The doctor stepped forward and looked up at the guards. "They saved us out there."
"Look, I'm not taking any chances." Rick moved to Jesus, "tell your gut Gregory to come out here."
"No." Jesus turned as he shook his head. "Don't you see what just happened? I'm letting you keep your guns." He told Rick. "Look, we ran out of ammo months ago. I like you people. I trust you. Trust us."
Rick stared at him before nodding his head at their group, making Jesus nod his head, turning to his people. "Open the gates, cal."
And they did just that. They opened the gates as the group moved to walk forward. Jaycee looked up at the massive house in the middle of hilltop, and the chicken coop they had. They lived well here.
The gates closed behind them as Jesus turned to face them, walking backwards. "There was a materials yard for a power company nearby. That's how we put up the walls. A lot of people came from a FEMA camp. Trailers came with them."
"How do people find out about this place?" Michonne asked him, looking around at hilltop.
"That's called barrington house." He pointed to the brick house in front of them. "The family that owed it gave it to the state in the '30s. The state turned into a living history museum. Every elementary school for 50 miles used to come here for field trips. The place was running a long time ago before the modern world built up around it. I think people game here because they figured it'd keep running after the modern world broke down."
Jaycee slowly nodded, listening to his wordsโas did the others. He turned around and pointed at the windows. "Those windows up there let us see for miles in every direction. Come on. I'll show you inside." He nodded at the group, walking towards the house.
"Who doesn't love a history lesson." Jaycee sighed as she followed Jesus to the house, the man opening the door for them.
"Jesus!" A younger voice from behind them made them all turn around to see a girl, brown hair and a relieved smile on your face. "You're back." She walked up the stairs and pulled him into a hug. "With people." She turned to the rest of them.
"Madelyn, these are from a place called Alexandria." Jesus tapped her shoulder as she hummed, nodding her head.
"Oh, well, it's nice to meet you all." Madelyn smiled at them all. "You taking them to Gregory?" She asked as he nodded. "Well, good luck." She turned to the group before walking down the steps, leaving them all confused, watching her walk away, practically skipping.
Rick walked into the house first as the others followed. Jaycee looked around at the old paintings and decorations.
"Good gracious, Ignatius." Abraham muttered as he looked around.
"Most of the rooms have been converted to living spaces. Even tho ones that weren't bedrooms." He turned to them, rolling his gloves up.
"People live here and the trailers?" Rick asked him with a raised brow.
"We plan to build." Jesus shrugged. "Theres babies being born." Then a door opened, a man in a suit walked out.
"Jesus. You're back." The Man, who Jaycee thought was Gregory, smiled at the man in the beanie. He looked around at the group. "With guests."
"Everyone, this is Gregory." Jesus pointed to the man. "He keeps the trains running on turn around here."
"I'm the boss." Gregory raised his hands with a grin.
"Well, I'm Rick. We have a communityโ"
"Why don't y'all go get cleaned up, hmm?" Gregory cut Rick off quickly as Jaycee raised her brow at him.
"We're fine, thank you." Jaycee tilted her head at the man. "Just fine."
"Jesus will show you where you can get washed up." Gregory ignored her as she scoffed, shaking her head. "Then come back down here when you're ready. It's hard to keep this place clean." He moved towards Rick, getting uncomfortably close.
"Yeah. Sure." Rick nodded his head.
"Follow me." Jesus sighed and Jaycee didn't think for a second before following him, Rick and Maggie by her side.
"You two get cleaned up first. One of you talk to him." Rick told the women as they walked up the stairs.
"Why is?" Maggie questioned as she held onto the railings, following Rick.
"I shouldn't. And you two gotta start doing these things." Rick told them as Jaycee raised a brow.
"Oh, great. I can already tell that man is going to 'hams my biscuit'โEugenes famous words." Jaycee shook her head as Rick gave her a funny look.
Jaycee thought it was better if Maggie spoke to Gregory instead of her, because he didn't seem like a person Jaycee could hold a conversation with. And clearly, Gregory didn't want to help them and didn't want their help.
Jaycee sat in the waiting room, with the rest as Jesus stood in front of them. "We want to generate trade. Gregory does." He started as Jaycee looked at the glass vase in front of her. "But ammo isn't something we urgently need."
"Well, how's that?" Rick asked as he leaned back in the chair he was sat in.
"The walls hold. We just brought in more medicine." Jesus started to explain. "Gregory wants the best deal possible."
"Yeah, well, we want things, too." Daryl grunted with a glare.
"We need food. We came all this way, we're gonna get it." Rick shrugged his shoulders.
"I will talk to him." Jesus nodded his head at Rick with a sincere look. "And we will work this out. Circumstances change. We're doing well now, and you will next. I will make him understand that. Can you give me a few days?"
"We can." Michonne answered him, making Jaycee turn to her.
"Yeah." Rick answered after a while, making Jesus let out a soft chuckle.
They all heard movement outside, making everyone stand up, looking at the door as someone walked in.
Then Gregory left his room, swinging the doors open. Jaycee frowned as she stood up beside Michonne. "What's wrong?" Gregory asked the man.
"They're back." He breathed out as Jaycee frowned, looking over at Jesus.
Gregory nodded his head as he followed the man outside, making everyone follow. Even Madelyn walked over to Jesus, looking over at the three people who just walked un.
"Nathan, what happened to everybody else?" Gregory asked as they walked towards them. "Where's Tim and Marsha?"
"They're dead." The bearded man said.
"Negan?" Gregory asked as Jaycee raised a brow. What kind of fucking name is that.
"Yeah." Nathan nodded his head.
"We had a deal." Gregory said, hands in his hips as he shook his head.
"He said it wasn't good enough." The man behind the girl said. "Was the drop light?"
"No." Gregory shook his head.
"They still when Craig." The woman said.
"They said they'd keep him alive, return him to us, if I deliver a message to you." Nathan stepped closer to Gregory.
"So, tell me." Gregory urged the man to continue. Jaycee held onto her jacket, confused to what the hell was going on.
The man held onto Gregory's shoulder, "I'm sorry." Then pushed his other hand forward and stabbed Gregory.
Madelyn let out a gasp as she backed away, as jaycess group moved forwards, going to help Gregory.
Rick pinned Nathan to the ground, the other man going to help until Abraham moved to tackle him.
Jaycee Moved over to the man, grabbing hold of his hand and snapping it out of place, making him cry out in agony.
The man fell down as Abraham gasped, sitting up as he held his neck. The redhead sent a nod to the girl as he got up.
They turned to Rick, who was fighting against Nathan, "hey!" Glenn yelled, hand on his gun.
"Stay back!" Nathan yelled as he sat on-top of Rick, knife to his throat. Michonne was quick to go to his side.
"Drop it." She warned the man, hand on her katana, but Rick stabbed the man in the neck. Blood oozing from his neck as Rick threw him off. He stood back up as everyone looked at him.
"What?" Was all he said, blood decorating his face and clothes.
"Nathan! You killed him." The woman yelled as she looked down at the man who was just killed.
"He tried to kill Gregory, then me." Rick pointed to the man as Jaycee looked down at the man Rick just killed.
The woman moved over to him and punched Rick in the face. Making Michonne drop her to the floor. "Don't!" She warned the girl.
"Stop it now!" The man from the gate said, aiming his spear at them. Jesus left Gregory's side, leaving Maggie and Madelyn to help the older man.
"Put pressure on his wound. I-uhm, I'll go get something to clean him up." Madelyn stuttered, getting up and moving her bangs behind her ear before running away and to her hut.
"I don't think I will." Rick held his gun, aiming it at the man.
"Everyone, this is over!" Jesus ran in front of them both. He panted, "it's over!" He repeated. "Nathan was our friend, but let's not pretend he was anything more than a coward who attacked us. He did this." He looked over to their group. "And these people stopped him."
"What can I do?" Rick asked, his gun still raised.
"Put the gun away." Jesus nodded at the gun in his hands. "You've done enough." And Rick listened, putting his gun away. "You need to know that things aren't as simple as they might seem. Just give me some time."
Then Jesus walked away, towards Gregory, Maggie and Madelyn, who was trying to help the wounded man.
They all sat in Gregory's office, Maggie standing at the window and looking outside as Jaycee held a small panting in her hand.
The door opened as Jesus walked in. "Dr Carson was able to patch Gregory up." He said as Jaycee looked up at him. "He's in pain, but he'll live."
"So, what happens now?" Michonne asked as she looked up from her hands.
"Things like that don't usually happen here, but, uh, it's settled." Jesus nodded his head, holding one of his hands in his other hand.
"We heard the name negan." Rick spoke as he stood up from leaning on the desk.
"Weird name, who calls their kid negan?" Jaycee mumbled as Abraham let out a chuckle, lowering his head.
"A while back, Daryl and Abraham had a run in with his men." Rick continued as he looked up from Jaycee, hands in his jacket pocket. "Who is he?"
"Negans the head of a group of people he calls the saviours." Jesus explained as Jaycee lowered her head in her hands. Now this is just sounding like a clown show. "As soon as the walls were build, the savours showed up. They met with Gregory on behalf of their boss. They made a lot of demands, even more threats. And they killed one of us...Rory. He was sixteen years old." Jaycee say up at that, eyes wide. "They beat him to death right in front of us. Said we needed to understand, right off the bat." He explained with a sad look on his face. "Gregory's not exactly good at confrontation. He's not the leader I would've chosen, but he helped make this place what it is, and the people like him."
"He made the deal." Maggie nodded her head as she understood what was going on.
"Half of everything. Our supplies, our crops, our livestock, it goes to the saviours." Jesus nodded his head.
"And what do you get in return?" Glenn asked, hands crossed over his chest.
"They don't attack this place." Jesus looked around his as Jaycee scoffed. "They don't kill us."
"So let me get this straight. They're like the government, wanting and demanding whilst the people lower on the food chain cower and do as they say? What a load of bullshit." Jaycee scoffed once again as she shook her head.
"Why not just kill them?" Daryl questioned, shrugging his shoulders.
"Most of the people here don't even know how to fight, even if we had ammo." Jesus explained.
"Well, how many people does negan have?" Rick asked him, leaning back on the desk as he looked at Jesus.
"We don't know." Jesus shook his head. "We've seen groups as big as 20."
"Now, hold up. So, They show up, they kill a kid, and you give them half of everything?"Daryl questioned with a grunt. "These dicks just got a good story. The bogeyman, he ain't shit."
"Well, how do you know?" Jesus tilted his head.
"A month ago, we took his guys out PDQ. Left them in pieces and puddles." Abraham spoke up from the chair he was sat in.
"You know, we'll do it." Daryl nodded his head. "If we go get your man back, kill negan, take out his boys, will you hook us up?" He pointed at Jesus. "We want food, medicine, and one of them cows."
Jesus turned to Rick, who shrugged. "Confrontations never been something we've had trouble with."
Jesus looked in between them all, before lowering his head, nodding. "I'll take it to Gregory." He said before walking out.
They had a deal. They were gonna kill negan and his people. They had a plan.
Jaycee left the house for a breather, looking at the walls. A figure, sat down in the gras caught her eyes. It was Madelyn, picking at the flowers from the ground.
When Madelyn heard footsteps, she quickly looked up, sighing as she saw Jaycee. "Madelyn, right." Jaycee asked as the brunette nodded her head. "I'm Jaycee."
"Hi." She said, extremely bubbly.
"How did you get here, if you don't mind me asking?" Jaycee asked as she lowered to madelyns level, who was still playing with the flowers.
"Uh, Jesus brought me here." Madelyn nodded her head with a smile. "I was on my own. I was about to die until he helped me, covered my eyes as he killed the walkers." Her hands started to shake as she squeezed them into a ball. "Then, he brought me here." She shrugged.
"He seems like a good person." Jaycee softly smiled as Madelyn nodded.
"He is." Madelyn looked over her shoulder to see Jesus give Rick a basket of something. "Do you think your plans going to work?" She turned back around. "Killing negan?"
"I don't know. We've seen people like this, we've stopped them. Another person on the list." Jaycee shrugged as Madelyn hummed.
"Here, for good luck." Madelyn picked out a red flower from the ground, handing it to Jaycee, who gently took it from her hands. "You'll need it." She smiled as Jaycee smiled back.
"Jay!" Rick shouted from the rv, ushering her over as she sighed, tapping her legs.
"Duty calls." She sighed. "It was nice to meet you Madelyn." She sent a final smile to Madelyn, the sixteen year old waving her goodbye.
Jaycee placed the flower in her pocket, zipping it up as she got into the tv. The girl reminded Jaycee of Adeline. Soft, gentle, hidden from the outside world.
Jaycee fiddled with her hands as they all sat in the Rv. Glenn passed a picture to Michonne, who smiled down at it. She looked over at the married couple before handing the picture over to Daryl.
He looked at it, a slight smile forming on his lips before handing it to Jaycee. She took it out of his hands as she looked down at the baby scan.
A grin appeared on her lips as she looked up at them, before passing it to Abraham. "I think Jaycee has a nice ring to it. Jay for a boy, Jaycee for a girl." Jaycee hummed as she spoke, smirk on her face as the people in the rv let out a soft chuckle at her words.
