It was 3 in the morning when Amanda had finished her patrols. She leaned back in her seat and yawned. She just wanted to go home to Ginny and sleep. An owl came to her, and she smiled when it was Pigwidgeon.
"Hello, Pig," said Amanda softly. The owl nipped her fingers affectionately before holding out his leg. Amanda took the paper from it and saw that it was a letter from Eliza and Hermione.
AMANDA LEWIS!
What on bloody hell were you thinking, making a deal like that? There's so much more I want to say, but I'm afraid we ran out of Howlers. You better come to chess and lunch on Friday or I swear, I'm going to kill you. Congratulations on your case by the way! We're proud of you. Don't forget lunch on Friday. Goodbye.
Hermione Jean Granger
P.S. Good luck, Ada, she's really mad – Eliza
Amanda just rolled her eyes and pocketed the letter. As if Hermione's anger would change her mind. She was already set on her decision, and if Eliza, who Amanda usually listened to, couldn't say anything to dissuade Amanda then Hermione most certainly couldn't. She was broken out of her thoughts when a cup of coffee was set down in front of her.
"Thank you, Harry." Amanda smiled gratefully and sipped it.
"You had a rough night today, Ada," said Harry, sipping his own coffee. "It's the least I could do."
"How are you and Jason?" asked Amanda. "Are you treating my best friend well?"
"Of course I am," said Harry in mock indignation. "Who do you think I am?"
"The Boy Who Lived But Can't Cook For His Life?" The two of them laughed loudly at that, which caused some of the remaining Aurors in the office to glare at them. They shut up immediately, but they still snorted from time to time.
"But, in all honesty, how are you two doing?" said Amanda with a smile.
"Well, he's a great roommate and a great friend," said Harry cheerfully. "I couldn't thank you enough for introducing us to each other."
"You don't have to thank me, Harry." Amanda patted him on the shoulder. "You needed someone to talk to and he need someone to lean on. We've all been through a lot in these past few years." The two of them went silent after that, remembering all the losses and pain they have been through because of Voldemort. Amanda and Harry were very similar. They lost their parents, Sirius and friends to Voldemort. Maybe, that was one of the reasons why they got along so well.
While they were used to the pain, Jason wasn't. He lost everything in the Battle of Hogwarts. He may never have met his parents, but he always had his sister. That night, she too left him. He lost Fred, his best friend and his boyfriend. He was the only one who was just as affected as George was.
Amanda knew Harry didn't want to talk to anyone even if he needed to, and Jason was pretending he was fine though he wasn't so she introduced the two boys to each other, hoping that they could finally open up, and she was glad that it was working well.
"I know you've probably heard this many times before," said Amanda softly. "But I want to thank you."
"For what?" Harry was slightly surprised at her sudden words.
"For everything." Amanda smiled gently at him, knowing he would understand what she meant with her smile. Harry's eyes softened as he smiled back at her. He did hear that thank you more times than he could count, but somehow, hearing it from Amanda was different. It made him feel good. It was like she was telling him, "You've done well. You did your part. It's over now." And it made Harry feel that he didn't have to be the hero he thought he should always be.
"Thank you, Ada," said Harry simply because his gratitude for the older girl couldn't be expressed in words. Amanda just chuckled and messed up his already messy hair. Harry was about to slap her hand away when he remembered something. "Hey, Ada?"
"Yeah?"
"There's something I want to ask." Harry shifted in his seat nervously.
Amanda was surprised at how nervous he was acting before nodding. "Go on."
"You see..." Harry took in a deep breath, feeling his nerves at what he was about to ask. "I'm in love with someone." Amanda's eyes widened, but she nodded for him to continue. Harry sighed shakily before speaking again. "I-I didn't realize it before. I mean, we were always friends, and I did take a liking to this someone during my 6th year. I thought it was just a crush or something... I-I never knew until now... But I do, I really love that someone."
Amanda felt her heart breaking at his words, knowing who that someone was. It was over. The battle hadn't even started yet, and it was already lost. She smiled weakly at Harry and patted him on the shoulder once more.
"Go for it, Harry." Amanda was surprised even at her own words. As someone who had feelings for Ginny, she should be telling him to stop and not to do it, but she was a friend before she was someone in love. "You two are perfect for each other."
Harry beamed at her before pulling her into a tight hug. "Thank you, Ada. I thought you would say no because... you know it's your best friend I'm in love with."
'I am in love with my best friend too.' Amanda thought sadly before she smiled at Harry. "And I know you'll take care of my best friend." She cleared her throat and stood up. "Now, I'll get going, Harry. I still have to work at 12 today."
"I'm sorry for keeping you, Ada," said Harry apologetically. "Stay safe."
"You too, Harry." Amanda waved at him before taking her bag and walking out of the office. She finally let her face fall as she Apparated out of the Ministry and in front of their flat. She opened the door quietly, knowing that Ginny might wake up since it was already 4 in the morning. Her eyes widened when she walked towards the couch and saw Ginny sleeping peacefully.
Amanda smiled softly as she walked towards Ginny and heard the younger girl's snores. She put down her bag and tapped the girl's cheek lightly. "Ginny? Go sleep in your room." Ginny opened her eyes softly to see Amanda bending down and smiling at her. She yawned and sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes.
Amanda's heart warmed at the sight of the sleepy girl. "You shouldn't have waited up for me. It's uncomfortable here. Let's get you to your room, yeah?" Ginny just nodded and yawned again, but she didn't move. Amanda chuckled softly at the Gryffindor whose eyes were closing again.
"Would you like me to carry you, Gin?" said Amanda teasingly, and her cheeks flushed when Ginny nodded and raised her arms. Amanda hesitated and stared at the girl before she sighed and moved over to Ginny. She placed one arm around Ginny's back and the other tucked in between her knees. She lifted the girl off the couch, and Ginny nuzzled her face into Amanda's neck. Her cheeks as red as Ginny's hair, Amanda almost lost her balance, but she quickly steadied herself. Ginny must have been so tired.
As they arrived at Ginny's room, she opened the door and lay the Gryffindor down on her bed. Amanda tucked Ginny in gently and stared at the sleeping girl. A smile made its way onto her face as she admired the beauty of Ginny Weasley. She remembered the talk with Harry, and her heart started aching again.
"You're making me feel so much, Gin." Amanda whispered before she chuckled softly. Ginny turned in her sleep and hugged the pillow tighter. Amanda shook her head and smiled again. She had no regrets when it came to Ginny. Every moment, everyday, everything she shared with the Gryffindor was treasure to Amanda. 'I'm in too deep, but I don't want to rise.' Amanda sighed shakily and walked out of the room, not noticing how Ginny's eyes opened and followed the girl.
When she heard the sound of the doors closing, Ginny whispered to herself sadly. "I'm sorry I don't feel the same, Ada."

Since they were both busy at work, Amanda and Ginny did not see each other for the morning. Ginny and the Holyhead Harpies were practicing the strategies they had worked Arithmancy on while Amanda was assigned to train the newly initiated Aurors. Even though they were both busy, Amanda made sure that she was still present in Ginny's day.
Ginny went out of her room in and frowned when she saw that Amanda was not there, but that frown was quickly replaced with a smile when she saw the food on the table with a note.
Good morning, Gin. I've got a busy day ahead so I'm sorry I couldn't see you. Anyways, I cooked some food for you so eat well, and I'll see you later.
Ginny's smile became wider and she started eating the food. When she finished, she Apparated out of the flat and into the Quidditch pitch of the Holyhead Harpies. She shivered though because it was too cold and no one in their right mind would practice in this weather. Well, it turned out Gwenog Jones wasn't in her right mind. She quickly went to the changing rooms and changed into her Quidditch gear. She was about to go when a note fell out of her bag.
Oi, I know it's cold so don't forget to cast a Warming Charm on yourself. I know you hate the cold. Love you!
'This idiot.' Ginny grinned and did as Amanda said. Someone cleared their throat behind her, and Ginny blushed when she saw it was their Captain, looking at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Sorry, Cap," mumbled Ginny as she walked past her and out to the Quidditch Pitch with the Firebolt Amanda has given her for her 16th birthday.
"Seems like you have an admirer, Weasley," said Gwenog teasingly.
Ginny just blushed before shaking her head. "I-I don't."
"Sure." Gwenog rolled her eyes. "And I'm in love with Oliver Wood." Ginny had to stifle her laughter at her words. They ran through some plays in the biting cold, and Ginny was thankful Amanda had reminded her of the Warming Charm. It did wear off after an hour of practicing, and luckily when the clock struck 5, Gwenog thought that they already practiced enough and let them off early for the day.
After washing up, Ginny Apparated back into her flat, but there was still no sight of Amanda. She groaned when her stomach rumbled and went over to the refrigerator. She grinned when she saw food again with a note on top.
I know you can't cook so I cooked some chicken for you. I know, I'm amazing. You don't have to tell me. I won't be back until later so don't wait up, all right? You might get tired again and ask me to carry you though I don't really mind. Have a good night, Gin. I love you!
Ginny smiled softly and heated the food in the pan. She took off the note and put it in the box where she kept all the notes she had from Amanda. She put the food on a plate and turned on the television to watch her movies. She didn't notice how quickly time passed, and it was already 8 in the evening. Ginny washed up and yawned as she went over to her room. To her surprise, she saw her favorite Treacle Tarts and a cup of Butterbeer on her beside. There was another note beside it.
Here's some Treacle Tarts that are as sweet as you.
Drinking the Butterbeer, Ginny chuckled before she took out some paper and wrote a note. She stuck it onto Amanda's door before laying down on her bed, feeling tired with the vigorous Quidditch practice she had. Due to her exhaustion, she did not see the note that was hidden at the bottom of the cup of Butterbeer.
Good night, Ginny. I love you.

Amanda yawned and got back to their flat at 11 in the evening. She checked the couch and smiled when Ginny wasn't there. The need for sleep was beating her hunger so she immediately went to her room. Her eyes softened at the note there.
You're making me fat, you idiot. Thank you.
Ginny sure had a weird way of thanking her, but anything from Ginny, Amanda would take. She took the note off with a grin and placed it into her bag before falling back on her bed, and her eyes closed with the thoughts of a smiling red-haired Quidditch player.
