Eliza and Hermione sat down in their flat, waiting for Amanda and hoping to convince the other girl to change her mind. Hermione asked Eliza to come with her because she knew that Amanda might not listen to her. As Amanda's best friend, Eliza knew what to say to her fellow Ravenclaw. She was worried too for Amanda because she knew that Amanda would keep everything in and not tell anyone how she was hurting.
Amanda Apparated into their flat. "Hey." Her voice died down at the piercing gazes of her friends. She rubbed the back of her neck before sitting down in front of them, trying to read the atmosphere. She didn't know why it seemed so awkward and intense.
Amanda cleared her throat and sat down in front of them. "Good morning. What's the occasion?" Eliza and Hermione stared at each other, communicating with their eyes. Amanda looked at them in confusion. What were they doing in front of her? What was going on?
"How is your deal with Ginny?" Hermione asked suddenly, turning her piercing gaze to Amanda.
Amanda frowned at the sudden question before shrugging her shoulders. "Why do you ask all of a sudden?"
"Amanda Faye." Eliza said with a frown. "How is your deal with Ginny?"
Amanda stared her best friend down before letting out a sigh. "It's going well." She looked away from her friends and grabbed a croissant that was on the table, munching on it. Eliza and Hermione looked at each other, knowing the deal wasn't going well at all. It was a stupid deal proposed by a fool. How would it go well?
"And how are you doing with this deal?" Eliza asked her.
Amanda stopped eating and stared at her friends. She saw how worried they were and felt a little guilty at how she had been acting, but she turned away from them once more and swallowed her food. "I'm just swell." It was a lie. All of them knew it was a lie.
"Ada." Hermione started worriedly. "Why are you still going through this deal when all it's been doing is hurting you?"
Amanda raised an eyebrow. "And why should I not go through it?"
"Have you seen yourself?" Eliza said angrily, standing up. She couldn't believe what Amanda just said. It was like she didn't even care about what they had to say. Like she didn't even care about herself. "You've changed so much! You're not yourself."
She was about to say more when Hermione pulled her down and whispered in her ear. "Calm down, love. Calm down."
Eliza took a deep breath before relaxing in her seat. Hermione smiled softly at her before turning back to Amanda. "She's right, Amanda. You've changed a lot during the past 16 days."
"Be honest with me." Amanda smiled bitterly. "Ginny asked you to talk to me, didn't she? She asked you two to tell me to stop the deal." Eliza and Hermione could only look down, none of them having the courage to answer her.
When none of them spoke, Amanda chuckled softly, but there was a hint of hurt in the tone of her chuckle. "You two don't have to worry. I thought about it hard enough when I proposed it."
"Have you really?" Eliza shot back. "Because you don't seem prepared for the consequences."
Amanda did think hard about it. It took all her courage to propose it, and that was why she was fighting for it with everything she had. Sure, she knew that she would never make Ginny fall in love with her. She knew she was in for a lot of hurt, and in the end, she would be broken. She may have known it, but it didn't mean it would hurt any less. In fact, it hurt so much she didn't know what to do at times. The only thing she could do was to cry it out to herself.
"It doesn't matter anyways." Amanda mumbled, looking down at the floor. "Can we talk about something else?"
"How does it not matter?" Hermione asked, her voice starting to tremble. How could Amanda say it did not matter when she was already breaking and the hurt was starting to consume her? She couldn't just let that happen. She had to do something. "Would you even be able to move on when you've loved her since you were children? Can you move on if you're going to see Ginny every day?"
Amanda's breath hitched at Hermione's final words before she just sighed. She knew the two girls in front of her were just worried, and Amanda hated the fact that she made them worry like that. She took another croissant and munched on it. "That's likely."
"Wait what?" Hermione asked in confusion.
"What do you mean, 'That's likely?'" Eliza asked too. She and Hermione looked at Amanda, trying to figure out what she was talking about.
Amanda stopped eating and stared back at them. She saw the mixed emotions of worry, curiosity and pleading in their eyes, and she was grateful for them. She may have been breaking, but she had her friends for her anyways. Amanda sipped her water and shrugged. "Auror Williamson had a talk with me the other day."
Eliza and Hermione looked at her with wide eyes, not knowing what to say. The Head Auror talked to their friend? They did not expect that information from her. They were waiting for an answer, and this is what Amanda told them.
"Amanda, what are you doing?" Eliza asked slowly, worry now clear on her face. "What did Williamson say to you?"
"Just something." Amanda closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. "Let's just talk about something else, please."
Hermione wanted to say something else when Eliza shook her head at her and looked at Amanda. "Promise us you're thinking hard about it and that you won't be hurt by it?"
Amanda smiled slightly at them. It was the only thing she could do to reassure them in that moment. If she dared to open her mouth, she would let everything out. Everything she had been holding in, she would let out, and she didn't want to worry her friends any more than they already were.
"I think I have to go. I'll see you two." She gave them quick hugs before she Disapparated away. Eliza could only frown when she saw the smile on Amanda's face. She knew Amanda. She was her best friend. The girl would rather smile rather than tell them her feelings. Amanda was one of the most brilliant people Eliza knew, but she was such an idiot when it came to Ginny. She knew the only thing that could be on par with Amanda's love for Ginny was her dedication to being an Auror. It was her parents' dreams, and Amanda was the one to fulfill their dreams. She just hoped Amanda would not do what Eliza thought she would.

Ginny never thought she would ever feel awkward with Amanda, but here it was right now. She hated how loud the silence was even if there were the sounds of the movie playing in the background. Amanda was lying down on the floor, completely focused on her book while Ginny kept on glancing towards her. How could she not when Amanda was just silent and reading her book as if she was annoying Ginny? Why couldn't the Ravenclaw just read in her room?
Ginny went home late the previous day, but she still stayed up, hoping to catch Amanda and talk to her, but apparently, Amanda was at work the whole day. She thought about Neville's words and started having doubts if Amanda did go to work simply for work or if she did so just to avoid Ginny. Ginny glanced again at her and wondered why couldn't Amanda say something? The awkwardness was too much.
Ginny sighed and turned back to the television. No matter how much she tried to pay attention to her movie, her mind would drift off to the Auror on the floor and everything she said the other day. Ginny decided then that she had to say something to break this awkward silence. She was about to say something when Amanda suddenly sighed.
"Damn it, Gin." Amanda closed her book and put it down. "I could hear you thinking from here."
"Y-You must have been dreaming." Ginny's cheeks flushed and she crossed her arms.
"I could feel you looking towards me." Amanda sat up now, looking at the television.
"You must have been mistaken." Ginny's voice shook slightly and she just hoped that Amanda did not see her do so.
Amanda smirked and she turned around to look at Ginny. "If I'm not mistaken, you don't feel awkward then?"
"I don't." Ginny did not dare look at Amanda.
"And you won't feel awkward if I kiss you?" At those words, Ginny lifted her head so fast and her eyes widened when she saw a smirk on her roommate's face. Amanda stood up and started walking towards her. Ginny didn't know if she wanted to slap Amanda's face or kiss that smirk away.
"S-Stop it." Ginny mumbled and closed her eyes when her voice trembled once more. "Don't even think about it."
Amanda just rolled her eyes before moving towards Ginny again. She stopped an inch away and saw that Ginny still had her eyes closed. She leaned in once more and whispered. "Then I'll act before I think." Amanda wrapped her arms around Ginny's waist and kissed her on the lips. She pulled Ginny closer and made Ginny sit down on her lap. She didn't know what she was doing at the moment.
As soon as she arrived from Eliza and Hermione's, she was surprised to see Ginny in the living room. She tried to eat her lunch in peace, but she couldn't savor the food when Ginny kept on glancing towards her. She thought the awkwardness would settle down after a few hours, but it was still there. She couldn't even concentrate on her favorite book when she could feel Ginny's stare at her.
Amanda couldn't help but deepen the kiss because Ginny looked absolutely beautiful like she always did. Ginny tightened her hold on Amanda's shirt, making the Ravenclaw's heart speed up. She pulled away then or she might lose control and do something else. The two of them stared into each other's eyes, panting for air.
Amanda nuzzled her face into Ginny's neck. Ginny was surprised but she quickly wrapped her arms around Amanda's neck to balance herself. "Let's never be awkward again." Amanda mumbled into Ginny's neck, making Ginny shiver slightly at the warm contact. "I can't handle it."
"Ada, I-"
"We'll always be friends, Gin." Amanda said firmly. "You have me as long as you need me." Ginny closed her mouth and just nodded. Amanda smiled slightly before hugging Ginny tightly. She didn't want to let go of Ginny since she remembered she only had a few days left.
Ginny laughed at how adorable her roommate was acting at the moment. "Do friends kiss each other?"
"Well, we're one of a kind friends, aren't we?" Amanda let go of her and smiled softly at Ginny. Ginny felt her heart soften because she hadn't seen that smile for a day and she already missed it. She just wanted to see Amanda smile like that all the time, and she just hoped their friendship would be all right after this deal.
Amanda pushed Ginny away gently before picking up her book and setting it down on the table. Ginny was surprised at the sudden disappointment she felt at the loss of contact. Why would she feel disappointed anyways? They were just friends, right?
"Let's watch your cliché movies now, shall we?" Amanda said teasingly before sinking back into the seat beside Ginny.
Ginny rolled her eyes and slapped her on the arm playfully. She pouted and looked back at her movie. Amanda just laughed in response and ruffled Ginny's hair. Ginny glared at her before jumping on the older girl and hugging her tight. Amanda yelped as she caught Ginny and fell back on the couch, hugging Ginny back.
Ginny tightened her hold on Amanda. She didn't intend to let go. She was just grateful Amanda always found a way to make things better between them because Ginny would have probably backed out in doing so. Ginny knew she wouldn't choose to have any other best friend if it wasn't Amanda.
They just stayed in that hug with Ginny on top of Amanda while Amanda would whine and watch the romantic comedy. She would comment and insult the movie, especially the cringe-worthy lines, and Ginny would punch her on the shoulder when she did so. Even if Amanda was an arse at times, Ginny would choose her all over again. Her foolish best friend.
