xi. mudfur and the prefect
❀⊱━━━━━━━━━━━⊰❀
The evening after her encounter with James, Lily was patrolling the grounds for students, and again, Remus Lupin was not there. Lily stopped to fix her bracelet that Petunia had give her when they were children. She did not notice how some of the Slytherin girls were coming up behind her.
"Flipendo!" Someone shouted behind her. Lily let out a yelp as she flew a few inches forward. She looked behind her and saw the girls in Slytherin were there with their wands out, Bellatrix Black was at the front.
"The Mudblood is doing her Prefect duties now, is she?" Bellatrix said mockingly, making the girls behind her giggle shrilly. Lily simply glared at them. She stood up and turned her back on them.
"What are you going to do, you filthy mudblood?" Bellatrix continued in the same menacing tone. "Give us detention? Take off points? Don't forget now, I'm a Prefect too."
When Lily started walking away from them, Bellatrix glared at her back and raised her wand. "Locomotor Wibbly." Lily's eyes widened as her legs snapped together and she fell to the ground. The Slytherins laughed as they cast even more spells while throwing insults at her.
"You're so annoying!"
"You bitch! Flipendo!"
"Two-timer!"
"Stop it." Lily pleaded with tears in her eyes. She felt pain all over her body and every time she tried to reach for her wand, they would jinx her again.
"Get out of here!" Bellatrix said coldly when they stopped their attacks. As Lily ran away, Bellatrix shouted. "Wake up. You're not a match for Alexandra."
Lily didn't know where she was going. She just knew she had to run. She could've hexed them back, but they kept on disarming her. She didn't understand why they did that. She had always been a Muggleborn, and they would always call her a Mudblood, but this time, they had gone too far. They attacked her. Just because she was with Alexandra?
When she arrived near the Whomping Willow, Lily finally stopped running and started crying while clutching her broken bracelet. She knew she was so much more than that, but in that moment, she felt so weak. Why didn't she fight back? Why did she just let them?
A sudden howl from inside the Whomping Willow made Lily's eyes widen. What was happening, and suddenly... she looked at the small entrance at the bottom, and there was something coming out from it.
From inside the Whomping Willow, Remus Lupin in his Werewolf form was sitting down calmly with a grizzly bear, a black dog and a grey rat. Suddenly, he let out a howl making the three Animagi look at each other in confusion. He started making his way to the entrance, and the three Marauders transformed back into their human forms for a bit.
"What's happening?" Peter asked worriedly.
"Come on." Sirius said quickly. They transformed back into their Animagi forms and chased after the werewolf. Their eyes widened when they saw a girl in the distance from the Whomping Willow.
'Lily?' Alexandra thought in surprise, but she had no time to wonder why the Prefect was there because Remus Lupin let out another howl and started running towards Lily. With a horrified expression, Lily stood up and started running back but she accidentally tripped over her feet. She let another tear fall, hoping for a miracle to happen and save her.
As the werewolf came closer, a grizzly bear suddenly came from the side and attacked the werewolf. A grey rat climbed up the werewolf, biting everywhere, and a black dog pounced on the werewolf, pinning it to the ground. The black dog barked at the grizzly bear and motioned to Lily. The bear nodded and gave the werewolf one last push before it went to Lily.
"Please don't kill me." Lily whispered and closed her eyes. The bear rolled its eyes and carried Lily by the back of her robes. Lily's eyes fluttered open and she looked at the bear in confusion, but the bear was too focused on running away from the werewolf.
"Wait, where are you taking me?" Lily asked in confusion and fear when the bear started bringing them to the back of the castle. When they arrived, the bear set Lily down and transformed back into Alexandra with bruises on her face.
Lily screamed, but her scream was cut off when Alexandra clapped a hand over her mouth and whispered to her. "Shut up! They'll hear you."
"Y-You're a- a-"
"Look, I can explain." Alexandra let out a sigh, and her eyes hardened when she finally noticed the wounds around Lily's face. "What happened to you?"
Lily looked away, her hold tightening on her broken bracelet. "It's nothing." And she blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall from her eyes. She was having quite the night. From being attacked by the Slytherin girls to almost being killed by a werewolf to finding out Alexandra was an Animagus. Lily never thought she'd have a night like that.
Alexandra cupped her face gently and made Lily look into her eyes. "What happened?" And seeing the genuine worry in the Malfoy's eyes, Lily could not stop herself from breaking down. Alexandra pulled her into her arms and let Lily cry on her.
"A-A lot of girls are jealous." Lily stuttered out. "They think we're a real couple."
"Who?" Alexandra pulled away to look at Lily properly, a frown on her face.
Lily wiped away her tears and sniffed. "It doesn't matter. I just want to go back to the dormitory. I'm going back." She tried walking past Alexandra, but Alexandra stood in her way.
"I'll take you home." Alexandra said firmly.
Lily shook her head and smiled weakly. "No need." She tried walking past the Marauder again, but Alexandra held her by the shoulders gently.
"Come with me." Alexandra said with a tone of finality.

As they arrived at their destination, Alexandra took out her wand and summoned some ice from the refrigerator, making her way to Lily who was sitting on the couch and looking around. Instead of bringing her to the dormitories, Alexandra brought Lily to her flat in Hogsmeade. That did explain why Lily never saw Alexandra in the dormitories.
"You shouldn't have brought me here." Lily let out a sigh. "I feel shy."
"I couldn't let you go back looking like that." Alexandra sat down beside her. "Your friends might think I'm neglecting you. Here, it's mine."
Alexandra held out a comb to her. When Lily just stared at it, she combed Lily's hair harshly. "That's clean." Lily scoffed and took the comb from her while Alexandra took the broken bracelet from Lily.
Lily started combing her hair. "But seriously – "
"It's destroyed." Alexandra sighed and put down the bracelet.
"Your parents might see this as something else." Lily frowned at her.
"No one lives here with me." Alexandra explained. "Well, Sirius does when we don't have school. And Remus and Peter come for the holidays."
Lily raised an eyebrow. "Then, who is he?" She stood up and walked over to one of the pictures on the table. "This is your brother, right? Lucius Malfoy."
"He's at Hogwarts." Alexandra said while fixing the ice. "I was sent to live here because my father couldn't handle me being a Gryffindor and he thought staying in the dormitories might influence me even more. So, he sent me away to live here."
"I'm sorry." Lily looked down, but she was surprised when Alexandra suddenly chuckled.
"It's all good. My relationship with them has never been good anyways." Alexandra explained with a slight smile. "Especially with Lucius."
"I guess we're in the same boat." Lily chuckled slightly. "Petunia never really liked me, but it got worse when I started studying here at Hogwarts. Do you know that bracelet is the only thing she never took back from me? It's because I lied and said I lost it."
"Why doesn't she like you?" Alexandra asked curiously.
"I never really knew." Lily sighed and noticed one of the other pictures. "Is this your mother? Where is she?"
"I don't know." Alexandra shrugged her shoulders. "She left when Lucius and I were still kids. I don't blame her though. My father's an arse."
"So Ria is the one you really had left," said Lily with a tone of sympathy.
"But she left me too." Alexandra said quietly. Lily stared at her with a soft look, and Alexandra let out a sigh. "You ask too many questions. Just come over here."
"Okay, it's fine. It's okay to be grumpy." Lily grumbled when Alexandra pulled her harshly to the couch. "Now I know the reason why you're like that."
"I'm not grumpy."
"That's why all the students in Hogwarts are afraid of you?"
"Are you one of them?" Alexandra raised an eyebrow.
Lily shook her head. "Except me."
"Really?" Alexandra smirked at her. "Says the girl who gave in to me."
"I didn't say yes because I'm afraid of you." Lily muttered.
"So, why did you say yes?" Alexandra asked curiously.
"Because I don't want you to die." Lily said softly.
Alexandra's smirk turned into a smile. "You really thought I would have jumped off the Astronomy tower?"
Lily nodded and hummed. "I saw you in the Hog's Head when you waited for Ria. When you let the Slytherins hex and curse you, you said that you'd stay there. It looked like you were willing to die for her. So, I told myself there are still people who can live like that."
"Unbelievable. Willing to die for love?" Lily let out a scoff. "Isn't that stupid? And then I thought, maybe that's how much you love that Ria. I said to myself, "What a loss it would be. People like you should live, so that you'll get the chance to show that love to the person you love the most." She's such a lucky girl."
Alexandra stared at Lily. "Because someone is willing to die for her?"
"Because someone loves her. Period."
"So if you were her, would you come back to me?
"Of course." Lily answered without hesitation. When she saw Alexandra starting to smirk, she immediately said. "But I'm not her."
"You already said it." Alexandra grinned at her. "You can't take it back. At least, there's one person who thinks that I am worthy to be loved." When Lily rolled her eyes, Alexandra started healing her injuries with her wand.
When she finished with Lily's face, she started checking for other injuries.. "Where else does it hurt? Are you still in pain?"
"Ow!" Lily yelped when Alexandra's hand pressed her upper right arm. Alexandra pulled up the sleeve gently and saw a nasty purple bruise on it.
Lily looked up at her. "Does it really hurt?"
"Shouldn't I be the one asking you that?" Alexandra furrowed her eyebrows and took the ice pack.
"Not that. I'm talking about love." Lily sighed deeply. "Do we really have to hurt every time we love?"
"Try it so you'll find out." Alexandra pressed the ice gently to the bruise.
Lily held a hand to her chest. "I'm afraid this can't take it."
"Why?"
"This is fragile." Lily smiled sadly. "I've been hurt by my love for my sister, and who knows what would happen if I actually fall in love?"
"It only takes practice." Alexandra smiled slightly at her. "Use me for practice."
"No way." Lily scoffed. "Those girls might come after me again. They're pissed at me because they say that we're not a match."
"Leave it to me." Alexandra grinned at her. "We'll start tomorrow." When Lily looked at her with hesitation, Alexandra winked at her, making Lily smile slightly. And none of the two girls knew why, but there felt something different... something that was never there before at the sight of the other's smile.
'She's actually beautiful.'
'See? This gangster looks better when she smiles.'
