vii. a sealed deal

"Pettigrew, Peter?" Professor McGonagall called out. Peter raised his hand lazily. It was the Monday after the weekend, and Lily felt lucky she didn't run into Alexandra in those days. She was wondering why she never really crossed paths with Alexandra despite the girl being a Marauder and her being a Gryffindor. The girl did not sleep in the girls' dormitory or in the boys' dormitory, and the Malfoy did not attend her classes this year. She found out from the records that Alexandra used to attend all her classes and the Prefect felt ashamed now for not paying attention to what was happening around her.

"Potter, James?"

"Here, Professor." James Potter, Prongs, raised his hand. Lily was confused when she heard sighs from behind her where Sirius, Remus and Peter were. After all, James Potter was known as the ringleader of the Marauders. Star chaser, attractive, good grades, he was loved by everyone, and during their first five years, he relentlessly asked Lily out. For some reason, he stopped at the end of their fifth year.

Lily never really saw Alexandra with the other Marauders when James was chasing after her, and that was another question Lily had. Why was James not with them? She didn't care too much about that though because she was more worried for Alexandra after the fight last Saturday. How was she? Was she still in pain? Were her wounds tended to?

"Oh, it's a miracle." Lily's head snapped up at Professor McGonagall's words and her eyes widened when she saw Alexandra Malfoy walk into the classroom and sit down with Sirius, Remus and Peter. Here was the question to her answers.

"You attended my class after a month, Miss Malfoy." Professor McGonagall raised an eyebrow at her. The head of Gryffindor knew it was useless to push on when it came to Alexandra so she continued with her roll call. As Professor McGonagall continued her roll call, Lily looked at Alexandra, seeing healing bruises and cuts all over her face. Oh, she felt even guiltier than before. All for Lily Elton, Alexandra suffered so much.

Lily's eyes widened as she thought of something. She pondered if she should do it or not, but the guilt inside her told her that she should do so. So, Lily did something that may lead to her death, but at least, she wouldn't die guilty. She cleared her throat and coughed out. "Ri."

But Alexandra was still looking into the space, seemingly lost, so she didn't hear Lily's cough

Lily cleared her throat again and repeated, a little louder this time. "Ri." Alexandra's eyes widened, and she looked towards Lily's direction. Lily met her eyes for a moment before looking back at her book, mentally cursing herself for what she had just done. Why did she think it was a good idea to tell Alexandra like this she

"Evans, Lily?"

Alexandra's eyes widened once more at that, her eyes set at Lily who was shutting her eyes and silently asking herself what the hell was she doing. Was she named Lily too? Lily didn't want to raise her hand or give any indication that she was named Lily because the moment she did that, Alexandra would know about what she did.

"Evans, Lily?" Professor McGonagall repeated in a strict tone.

"Here, Professor." Lily finally answered and raised her hand, the Prefect side of her taking over. As Lily looked back towards Alexandra and saw the girl staring back at her, she knew she was screwed. But at least, she got to tell Alexandra... right?

❀⊱━━━━━━━━━━━⊰❀

Wrong.

"That's it." Marlene repeated countless times as she and Lily walked towards the Great Hall for lunch. "You're screwed, Lils. You're seriously screwed."

Marlene let out a loud groan as she and Lily sat down at one of the tables. "Damn it, Lils. Nobody can escape her wrath. You're really screwed."

Lily just rolled her eyes and opened her books, trying to hide the fact that she too was nervous about what might happen. Alexandra Malfoy was extremely unpredictable. Would she ask her to go and find the ghost in the Shrieking Shack? Or something like make Lily Elton fall for her again? Oh, she hoped not. She hoped a miracle would happen, and Alexandra Malfoy would be kind enough to let it go.

"Hi, Alexandra." Some of the Gryffindors said, making Lily sit up straight with wide eyes. She was here. She knew.

"Don't look." Lily muttered to Marlene. "Don't look."

But Marlene looked behind them and saw Alexandra Malfoy was a few meters away from them. She whispered anxiously. "She's already here and looking at us."

"Where is she? Where?" Lily asked, her eyes wide and still looking down at her book.

"She's talking to one of the first years, Christian Clarke."

"Let's go. Come on." Lily started packing up her stuff. They needed to get away now.

"But we haven't eaten lunch yet." Marlene said in protest.

"Let's eat dinner later. Let's just go."

"But I'm starving."

"Marlene." Lily whispered to her. And her eyes widened when she looked behind her and saw Christian Clarke pointing towards her. She saw Alexandra Malfoy looking at her and smiled nervously. Bloody hell.

"Let's go, come on!" Lily picked up her stuff bag, running out of the Great Hall. She just needed to get away. Her books and letters fell out of her bag when they got out, making Lily curse mentally at her luck. She went back to pick them up with Marlene helping her.

"Hurry up." Marlene whispered to her frantically.

Lily was about to pick up the last letter on the floor when someone snatched it before her. "Hey!" And her eyes widened when she saw that it was Alexandra Malfoy. Oh no.

Alexandra glanced at the letter, confirming it was hers, before she looked at Lily with disbelief and a hint of anger. "How could you do this to me? You made me look like a fool, waiting for nothing." She walked towards Lily who walked back until the Prefect felt her back hitting the wall.

"W-Well, because..." Lily started stuttering because of their proximity and fear for what Alexandra would do to her. "B-Because –"

But she was cut off when Alexandra suddenly leaned in and crashed their lips together.

Draco squealed in delight when he arrived at that part of the story, making Harry look at him with a raised eyebrow. "And that was your mother's first kiss ever."

"You're too noisy!" Someone shouted from another compartment. The other people in their compartment left a long time ago due to the noise Draco was making while telling the story. It turned out his noise was spreading to the other compartments.

"And why would your aunt send letters to my mum instead of Aunt Ria?" Harry let out a scoff. It was stupid to think of it.

"It wasn't like that." Draco shook his head. "I told you, they had the same names, and my aunt didn't know everyone at the time because she was too immersed in her world with Ria to pay attention to the world around her."

"Then why did my mother get her letters?"

"From what I know, my aunt asked Christian Clarke to put the letters into Lily's bag, but he thought it was for Lily Evans instead of Lily Elton. So, he put the letters in your mother's bag instead. They were both named Lily, remember?"

Harry stared at him for a moment. "Foolish."

"It's not foolish. It's called destiny." Draco retorted back. "Meant to be. It's so romantic."

"My dad was hurt. What's romantic about that?" Harry glared at him, his anger at Jamie returning when he would remember how Lily was always crying over her. If he knew about it, his dad did too. And he was probably just holding in the pain because of how much he loved Lily.

"My aunt was more hurt."

"She suffered because she kissed my mum?"

"Do you even know why my aunt kissed your mum in the first place?" Draco raised an eyebrow at him, and when he didn't answer, Draco grinned and continued.

Lily's eyes were wide open, and her mind went blank for a second. When she got back to her senses, she started smacking Alexandra on the head, trying to push her away. So many people were watching the scene in surprise and confusion, but Lily was the most surprised and confused. What the hell was she doing in front of everyone?

Alexandra pulled away only an inch away and pinned Lily's hands against the wall. She spoke lowly so only the two of them could hear. "Where is she?"

Lily's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, and she stopped fighting against Alexandra. "Who?"

"Lily."

"Me?"

Alexandra blinked in disbelief before speaking again. "No. The beautiful Lily."

Insulted at the comment, Lily glared at her but she still roamed her eyes around, and she saw a woman with James Potter from a distance, the two of them were smiling at each other... like lovers.

"Is she the one with James?" Lily asked. And when Alexandra nodded, she looked again and saw that Lily Elton and James Potter glanced at them before leaving.

"Is she looking?"

"Not anymore." At Lily's answer, Alexandra moved away and saw that James and Ria were laughing with each other and walking away. Her eyes hardened into a glare when James wrapped an arm around Ria. She felt her heart break a little, but she did not show it on her face.

Alexandra looked back at the disheveled Lily and smirked. Her plan that she thought of after finding out what Lily did was now going to come into action. "From now on, we're officially a couple."

"What?" Lily said incredulously at her words. Alexandra Malfoy was an enigma with her words and actions, she had no doubt about that after seeing how dedicated she was to Ria. But even if she knew it, she still couldn't help but feel shocked at her proposal. Dating? Them? That seemed as likely as Lily dating the Giant Squid.

"You'll pretend to be my girlfriend to make Lily jealous and then she'll come back to me." Alexandra said nonchalantly as if they were just talking about what to eat.

"What?" Lily asked dumbly.

"Let me remind you what you did to me." Alexandra scoffed at her and pointed at her bruises. "See these? You owe me."

Lily looked away and frowned, seeing the bruises on Alexandra's face. She did have a point, but still... Seeing how shocked Lily was, Alexandra left with one last smirk at her, and the redhead stood there, wondering what on earth just happened.
