ii. the unexpected return

"Mum, we should go now." Ginny checked again if her bags were complete before sending a reassuring smile to her worried mother. "I'll be fine, Mum. I won't cause any trouble..."
"Oh dear." Molly had tears in her eyes, rushing over to her only daughter and hugging her tightly. She didn't know what she would do if she lost any of her children. Charlie was still in Romania, recruiting some allies. Bill was with Fleur, trying not to raise suspicion in the Ministry. The twins were still busy with their joke shop and Ron was on the run with Harry and Hermione doing whatever mission Dumbledore gave them.
And Percy... She couldn't stop worrying about her son who she hasn't talked to in over a year. She knew he was still in the Ministry, but he didn't even go to Bill's wedding and now, Voldemort had control of the Ministry. Molly Weasley did not want to send her daughter to Hogwarts, she was too scared for that but then, Ginny was too stubborn. Just as stubborn as the rest of the Weasleys. She couldn't change her daughter's mind no matter how much she tried.
"Promise me... Promise you'll be alright?" Molly said through her tears, swallowing the lump in her throat. She should trust her children just as they've always trusted her, but when you're a mother, you cannot help yourself from worrying. "I love you, Ginny."
"I love you too, Mum." Ginny's eyes softened and she hugged her mother back. She knew her mother was just worried for her, especially since Snape was now Headmaster, but Ginny couldn't just stay in their home and watch her fellow students suffer. She, Neville and Luna already talked about it. They were going to protect Hogwarts since Harry and Deanna weren't there anymore, and even if the damn Death Eaters were there, they wouldn't stop.
"Now, come on, Mum." Ginny squeezed her shoulder then picked up her bags. "We're going to be late." Molly nodded and picked up Ginny's other bag, holding her daughter's hand and Apparating them to Platform 9 ยพ. Ginny couldn't help but frown when she noticed that there were Death Eaters around the train with lists in hand.
"Now, I must go, Ginny," said Molly hastily. "Be safe, love."
"You too, Mum."
Molly kissed Ginny on the cheek and sent her a small smile. With one last glance at the Death Eaters, she Disapparated away, none of them catching sight of her. Ginny took her bags and went over to the train with a look of determination. She was relieved to see none of the Muggleborns around, knowing it was safer for them like this.
"Name?" A Death Eater, Amycus Carrow, asked, looking at his list.
"Ginny Weasley," replied the Gryffindor, staring at him.
The Death Eater looked up at once, not needing to look at his list to know the girl wasn't a Muggleborn. He looked at her for a few moments before speaking. "Your brother?"
"He has spattergroit," said Ginny, rolling her eyes. "Some of you even went to find out if it was true."
Amycus Carrow squinted his eyes as if he wanted to curse Ginny then for her attitude but he nodded without another word and stepped aside to talk to the next student. Entering the train, Ginny let out a scoff and started looking for her friends. She grinned when she saw Luna and Neville in the near compartments.
"Nev, Luna!" Ginny hugged them tight, setting her bags down and sitting with them. "It's been too long. How have you two been?"
"Father and I have been talking about going to the Moon to see some Moon Frogs these days," said Luna dreamily, making Neville and Ginny chuckle instead of saying anything. It was better to just let things like these go.
Neville suddenly turned serious, looking at Ginny. "Gin, are they really...?"
Ginny knew at once what he was talking about and the light atmosphere in the room turned into one of intensity. She let out a sigh and nodded. "That's why we need to be careful. No matter what happens, we'll fight. Okay?"
Neville and Luna glanced at each other before nodding. It was the least they could do for Deanna and Harry who always risked their lives for others. It was their time to fight back and protect Hogwarts.

"Noah Knight, sir." Noah said politely to Amycus Carrow. The Death Eater checked his list before nodding, moving aside and giving a small bow to Noah, making the pureblood roll his eyes. They were only doing this because he was from a noble pureblood family who Voldemort was trying to bring to their side. But Noah knew his parents, they were supporters of Dumbledore and would never give in to Voldemort.
He was about to enter the train when he heard a familiar voice. "Jemina Nightingale." Noah's eyes widened at that and he turned around immediately, seeing his friend there. He could hear the others whispering and pointing at Jemina who was only staring into Amycus Carrow's eyes. Why was she here? Didn't she know it was dangerous for her and her family?
Noah was about to speak when Amycus Carrow beat him to it. "Ah, the special case... The Lady's request." He laughed loudly, catching the attention of more people and making them wonder about what could happen to Jemina and what he meant by that. The Death Eater stopped laughing abruptly and glared at Jemina, disgust clearly in his eyes. "Mudblood. Get in there, I don't want to see filth in front of me."
Noah was angered at what he said and he was about to say something once more when Jemina beat it to him. "Alright, I'll get my filthy presence away from you. Filth and filth don't make a good pair, do they?"
Everybody there gasped at what she said. Jemina Nightingale was a shy and kind girl who could never say an unkind word against anybody, but here she was, standing up to the Death Eaters themselves. They couldn't help but think she was out of her mind for saying that and for even going to Hogwarts even when she knew about the situation.
Amycus Carrow glared at her. "What โ"
"Excuse me, Mr. Carrow." Pansy Parkinson suddenly said, bringing the Death Eater's attention away from Jemina for a moment. "The train's about to leave and there's still a lot of us here." Baffled, Jemina could've sworn she saw the Slytherin wink at her.
"This isn't over, Nightingale." Amycus Carrow spatted at her before turning to the other students.
Jemina simply passed by him, smiling at Noah. "Hey, Noah. Come on."
"W-What are you โ"
"Let's talk later." Jemina quickly whispered. "Now come on." With that, Jemina whisked Noah away to one of the empty compartments, feeling victorious at what she has just done. Is this what Deanna felt every time she stood up for them? It felt so good to stand up to those damn Death Eaters and Jemina would do it over and over again.
Just as she promised. She may be reckless for doing this without a plan, but she only had one thought in mind. Her family would be proud of her, and that thought alone was enough to give comfort and energy to Jemina.
