THE BLONDE WALKED up to his brother.

"Did you do it?" the blonde asked. The brunette nodded and looked at his mate.

"Good." The blonde walked around the table. "Imagine the power she'll possess."

The brunette nodded. "Yes, indeed, brother."

"We'll need to convince her that Lailah never existed," the blonde explained. The younger one nodded. "But, what if Lailah could teach her?"

The older blonde shook his head. "Lailah is ruthless. She'd kill us both for this."

"Okay." He looked back at his mate.

The only heartbeat in the room slowed.

"You hear that, brother?" The blonde asked.

"Indeed."

The brothers watched as Mayla Grace-Hill opened her eyes a newborn vampire.

THEIR ENTIRE FAMILY sat in the room and did their things until they heard shuffling from upstairs.

"Carlisle?"

Carlisle ran upstairs to his office.

Mayla sat up on the examination table, her now violet eyes wide in fear upon seeing all the foreign machinery she was hooked up to.

Carlisle walked over to her and helped her unhook her from all of the machines.

"You're a hybrid?" Carlisle asked, though it was more of a statement, as he unhooked the last machine. Mayla nodded. "I was fully changed a few years after I left."

Carlisle and Mayla sat in silence, his hands resting on the table either side of her hips.

After a moment, Mayla tried to stand and would've fallen, had Carlisle not fought her. He helped her sit down once more before explaining she was out for nearly a month and was now fully a hybrid.

Mayla nodded and stood up, wobbling a bit. Carlisle steadied her and helped her down the stairs.

Once they were downstairs in the living room, Mayla sat on the couch.

"Hey, Malya!" Alice said, bouncing in her seat excitedly.

Mayla smiled. "Hello, Alice."

Carlisle walked out of the room.

"Jasper, come on," Alice spoke gently, leading her mate out of the living room.

Carlisle walked into the living room a few moments later, with a cup of blood in hand.

"Here." Carlisle handed her the cup.

She took the glass cup and shakily took a sip. Carlisle sat next to her and held her cup until she was ready for another sip. She eventually finished the glass.

Mayla smiled at Esme. "Hello, Esme." The brunette smiled back. "It's nice to have you back."

Mayla nodded gratefully before laying her head on Esme's shoulder and within a few minutes she was asleep.

MAYLA SMILED SOFTLY as she walked through the street of the small town, holding a basket in her hands.

She was t paying attention to where she was going and bumped into something hard.

She fell back and a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist. But they weren't Carlisle's.

She looked up at the man. He was beautiful — in a way. Most would find him attractive but she wasn't. He had brown hair, pale skin, and blood red eyes that startled the blonde in front of him.

"Sorry," Mayla murmured softly, looking at her feet.

The man smiled softly and hooked a finger under his chin. He lifted her head so she was forced to look him in the eyes.

"What is your name, love?" the man asked. Mayla took a deep breath. "Mayla Hi- Grace."

"Mayla Grace, hmm?"

Mayla would've nodded, but the man was still gently holding her chin in his slightly chilled hand.

The man nodded and let go of her chin.

"Where do you live, love?"

"Um. I do not have a home here."

The man nodded.

"Sir?" Mayla looked at him.

"Hmm?"

"What is your name?" the dirty-blonde asked meekly.

"Stephan."

MAYLA HUMMED ALONG to the upbeat music playing, her hips saying to the beat as she cooked in front of the stove.

Renesmee walked into the kitchen and stole a handful of ground beef from the bright red bowl. She sat down on a bar stool.

"No more until it's finished," Mayla said. Renesmee smiled and nodded. "Fine." Mayla smiled before she continued cutting the potatoes.

"You seem to have a good relationship with Esme, despite the circumstances," Renesmee said after a long moment of silence.

Mayla nodded as she continued to cut the potatoes on the curing board in front of her. "I see Esme as a mother." She placed the diced potatoes into the pot of boiling water.

"Isn't it a little weird though, since she's married to Carlisle?" Renesmee asked, placing another chunk of meat in her mouth.

"A little," Mayla admitted. "Though I try not to think about that. But Esme just has that motherly personality. And I'm physically the same age as the rest of you. So in that sense it's not too awfully weird." Renesmee smiled and nodded. Mayla walked over to the fridge and looked through it.

"Where's your cheese?" she asked. Renesmee shrugged. "Don't know."

Mayla sighed before she continued going through the fridge.

"I found it!" she cheered. Renesmee laughed before Mayla walked over to the counter and opened the block of cheese. She dropped the cheese into the pot.

She turned around and leaned against the counter.

"When I go back to Volterra, do you want to come with me, or do you want to stay here?" Mayla asked. Renesmee frowned. "You're going back?"

Mayla nodded. "I'll stay here for a few months before I leave, but yes." Renesmee nodded. "I'll think about it."

Mayla smiled softly before turning around and stirring the pot. She added the meat and mixed it in.

Esme walked into the kitchen and smiles softly.

"How do you feel? "Esme asked. Mayla smiled. "I feel well, thank you."

Esme nodded and sat down next to Renesmee.

The three were silent until Mayla dipped out to bowls from the pot. She placed one of the bowls and spoons in front of Renemsee. She stood across from where Renesmee stood with her own bowl.

MAYLA WAS SEATED on the couch under a blanket, a book resting in her hands.

"What are you reading?" Carlisle asked as he walked into the room. Mayla looked up from her book, before looking down and showing him the book cover as she continued to read.

Carlisle nodded and sat down next to her. "How are you feeling?"

Mayla sighed. "I'm fine. You've been asking for the last week. I was fine yesterday, im fine now. That's not going to change."

Carlisle smiled softly. "Okay."

Mayla sighed before she continued to read her book.

Alice skipped into the room seconds later, a huge smile planted across her face.

"Mayla, come on! We're going shopping!"

Mayla groaned.
