ย  ย  ย  WHEN THEY WERE out of hearing distance from the people in the house, Mayla started crying again.

"I'm in love with Carlisle."

Mayla cried harder. "But, I don't want to hurt Esme."

Edward stood still for a moment.

"I know. It's wrong." Mayla sat down on the ground. "He's married. But- but we would've been if I hadn't changed. And now he has Esme and I'm just- I'm just left on the side. And I know I shouldn't have come back but I did because Aro wanted me to make sure Renesmee was keeping the secret-"

"So, you came here because Aro told you to?" Edward asked his expression hard. Mayla nodded. "But even if she didn't I-"

"Leave."

"Wh- what?"

"I said leave. Pack up your stuff and leave," Edward said. Mayla let out another sob as Edward disappeared.

Edward ran upstairs to where his old room was- and where Bella was waiting.

"What'd Mayla want?" Edward sighed and sat down on the bed. "Mayla's in love with Carlisle."

Downstairs, Esme gasped softly as did Alice.

"And she let her guard down. I could read her thoughts, in Volterra, Carlisle told Mayla, he loves her."

Esme's eyes filled with tears that would never fall as her hand went to cover her mouth. She ran upstairs. Carlisle sighed and put his head in his hands.

"You messed up really bad this time," Emmett said from behind Rosalie. She smacked him softly.

Mayla walked inside the house, ignoring when Carlisle looked at her pleadingly. She walked to the room she was staying in, packing her stuff.

Esme walked into the room and sat down on the bed. "How long have you known Carlisle?"

"Since we were human."

"How do you know him?"

"Our parents were friends and we became friends."

"Well, I know I haven't known you that long, and you probably don't care about my opinion, but the friendship you and Carlisle have is special. Why leave that behind?" Esme asked softly. "You can stay here. Rosalie will come to accept the fact that you're family soon enough."

"Because I have done what I came here to do."

"And what is that?" Rosalie asked, appearing in the doorway. "Ruin relationships? Because you've definitely done that."

"That's not what I came here to do."

"Then what was it?"

"Rose-"

"No, Esme. She had a reason for coming here and I want to know why!" Rosalie yelled. She pointed a finger in Mayla's direction. "You come here, you admit that you love Carlisle. You make Alice feel bad because she can't see our futures anymore. But that's not why you came here." She stood in front of Mayla. "So what did you come here to do?"

Mayla stood silently, tears that shouldn't be there falling down her cheeks.

"Why did you come here?" Rosalie screamed.

"Because Aro told me to!" Mayla yelled. "And he's the only one who has opened a home to me with open arms. That's something even my parents didn't do. And that's something I've wanted my entire life. To feel welcome. To have someone that I love, love me. And everyone that I love doesn't love me, or can't love me." More tears ran down her cheeks. "And I just want to feel loved."

Rosalie scoffed. "You came here because Aro told you to? Then since you know what you needed to know to kill us all, leave."

Mayla looked at Esme, whose eyes were filled with tears. "I'm sorry."

She ran into the bathroom and changed quickly before leaving.

ย  ย  ย  "ARO, I MUST talk to you," Mayla said, still wearing the dress she left the Cullens' in.

"Alright. What is it, my dear?"

"Well, when I was with the Cullens, I-"

"Masters, I've brought someone for you to... talk to," Jane said. Aro nodded. "Send them in."

Jane nodded and a woman stepped into the room, looking frightened.

"Name and what did she do?" Mayla asked in a bored tone as she sat down on her throne.

"Her name is Marisa and she was spreading the stories about our kind. She claims to be human," Felix said. Mayla nodded and walked forward, stopping in front of Marisa.

Marisa had light blonde hair, pale skin, and red eyes. She was wearing a wine red dress with a deep neckline.

"Well, Marisa..." Mayla circled the woman. "It seems you have broken a rule. And we can't have that, now can we?"

Marisa shook her head quicker than any human should be able to.

"I don't hear your heartbeat. Odd." Mayla continued to circle the woman.

"I think that if she's really human as she claims she is.. test her mortality," Mayla said slowly, her hand picking up a strand of the woman's light blonde hair.

Marisa pulled a knife from behind her back and stabbed Mayla in the back after she had turned around. The knife embedded itself into her back. Mayla gasped softly and pulled the knife out, a golden-yellow color substance flowing from the cut.

Mayla spun around, her eyes murderous.

"Demetri, get the gun," she hissed.

Demetri nodded and appeared a few moments later with a gun.

Mayla grabbed the gun from his hands. Aro watched with a smirk.

Mayla smirked as she used the copied ability from Zafrina.

Marisa screamed as- in her vision- she was surrounded by a box filled with water.

Mayla sighed after minute and gave Marisa her vision back.

Mayla smirked, backed up a few steps, aimed, and fired, smirking when the bullet bounced harmlessly off the woman's skin.

"Liar," Mayla taunted. She grabbed Marisa's finger and pulled. Marisa screamed in pain when Mayla disconnected Marisa's pointer finger from her hand.

"No blood, hm?" She looked at Aro and smirked when he nodded.

Marisa dropped to the ground, screaming in pain. Mayla stopped her torture for a moment. "Are you going to talk now?"

Marisa nodded.

"Lies," Mayla sneered. She smirked as Marisa screamed again as Jane used her gift.

"I wish what you said is true, but it's not, now is it?" Mayla walked around the woman again, stopping as to not get in the way of Jane. Mayla put her hand up and Jane stopped her torturous assault.

"I'm afraid you're a threat to our kind and we're going to have to kill you." Mayla smirked as she used the copied ability of a random vampire she met and broke Marisa's legs.

"Felix, Demetri, someone, take care of her."

Mayla walked over to Aro. "We have to talk."

"Yes, yes. Is Renesmee Cullen keeping the secret?" Aro asked.

"Yes, bu-"

"Wonderful!" Aro exclaimed and clapped his hands. "Now, brothers and sister, we must discuss a very important matter."

Mayla sighed and sat down on her throne.

ย  ย  ย  THERE WAS A KNOCK on Mayla's door.

"Come in," she called.

The new secretary, Phoebe walked into the room, carrying a letter on a tray.

Phoebe walked forward and stopped in front of Mayla. Mayla grabbed the letter. "Thank you."

Phoebe nodded and hurried out of the room.

Mayla read who the letter was from. 'Esme Anne Platt'.

Curious as to why Esme used her maiden name, Mayla opened the letter.

Mayla,

I realize that what Rosalie said to you hurt. And I realize that I didn't seem the most accepting when you said Aro told you to come.
But, I can see where you were coming from.

I understand the want to have someone love and accept you for who you are.

When I was human my husband didn't love me.

The one person that truly loved me and showed it was a woman named Lailah.

I understand that it might take some time, but I want to be your Lailah, if you'll let me.

Please, at least consider my offer. This isn't me making you come home, this is me offering to talk to you through letters and hopefully become friends.

Best wishes,
Esme Cullen

Mayla read and re-read the letter over and over.

She eventually sighed and shoved the letter in her desk.
