"Emerson, can you heal her a bit? At this rate, neither of them are going to last the trip." Sebastian frowns, looking over at his little brother momentarily and then turning his gaze back the road.
"Yeah..." Emerson murmurs worriedly, already leaning over his seat and above Elizabeth.
His eyes shimmer gold as his hands glow a lovely shade of light green, hovering them over her wrecked body. Immediately, the little cuts and the harsh burns begin to fade. Emerson frowns, putting a bit more of his magical essence into his healing. Some of the shadows that were slowly creeping up her body recede, but not by much. Her breathing becomes less labored and Remington looks to be in a little less pain, eyes still roaming around deliriously.
Emerson flinches as Remington lets out a random laugh, going back to staring around him almost immediately, as though nothing had happened.
"I avenged you. I avenged you m-" A laugh bubbles from Remingtons blood stained lips, tears streaking down his cheeks as he does so.
Tears well up in Emerson's eyes as he moves to sit back in his seat, wondering just what Remington was speaking of. He can't lose his brother, Sebastian and Remington have been all he's had for so long. They've been the ones to pull him out of his dark spots of depression over the many, many years he's been alive. They've been the ones to remind him that he may have a soulmate, that he may find his reason for living. Remington found his love, there's always a chance Emerson will find his.
Elizabeth... she'd become like a sister to him. Now, she may just die too, along with his brother. Two of his most precious people are likely to be taken from him. "Sebastian... do you... do you think they'll be alright?"
Sebastian hesitates. He doesn't want to lie to his brother, or himself, but at this point... they both are likely to die. "I don't know Emerson." Seb comments, unsurely, hating that he may have given his brother false hope.
Taking a glance into the backseat from the rear view mirror, Sebastian notices that Eliza and Rem are subconsciously leaning as close to each other as possible. Elizabeth was propped up in the middle seat, shadows gently curling off her cheeks, Remington to her left and the werewolf to her right. The werewolf, Austin as they had learned, was asleep, something creme colored gripped tightly in his arms and half buried under his standard issue scrubs. Sebastian would ask about that later, the marking on the front familiar.
Letting out a sigh, Sebastian speaks up once again, "I think you'll have to heal her periodically till we get back to Andrew. It seems to help a bit, but not enough."
"Okay." The youngest brothers' reply was quiet, voice laced with sadness.
The eldest sighed for what he hoped was the final time, turning his attention back to the road.
"Elizabeth."
"Andy? What's going on? I can't see you... and everything hurts."
"You're dying my love."
"Oh... I.... What will happen to you and Remington?" Her soft voice trails off, masked sadness leaking through.
"Remington will lose his mind as his soul crumbles to dust and then his heart will just stop. I'm... not sure what will happen to me. Perhaps I will be sent back to Hell, or cease to exist entirely. Our souls are being ripped apart."
"Is there anything I can do?" She begs, wishing the void she's trapped in would allow her to see Andy.
"No, beautiful, there isn't. But there is something I can do for you."
"For me?"
"Yes. I can save you, and in turn, save Remington."
"That's great!" The excitement in her voice brings a small bit of happiness to the demon, though he knows her next question will tear that excitement from her violently.
"What will happen to you...?"
"My soul will be split in two."
"B-but, that will kill you. Nothing can live without a soul. I can't... I can't lose you. Please, p-please don't. Andy you can't leave me... p-please." She begs once more, as she did before.
Everything was moving too fast. First, she was dying. She didnt want to die, nor for Remington and Andy to die with her. Secondly, Andy is going to leave her too? Like her parents?
No, not like her parents. Her mother and father despised her, gave her up to be experimented on like some worthless thing, like she wasnt their daughter. Andy... Andy is doing this to help her and Remington, to save them. He is dying so that they will live.
"I've lived a long time love. My time is nearly coming to an end. Besides, I finally got what I always wanted."
"And... what is that?" Reluctant acceptance falls over her like a crashing wave, unwelcome and painful.
"Love."
A deep, emotional pain travels throughout the bond of the three supernaturals. Elizabeth stirs suddenly, tears beginning to fall down her cheeks in her unconsciousness. No one notices except Remington, who is slowly falling into insanity. He looks over at his love, the only clear object in his otherwise blurred vision.
There's a tugging in the back of his mind, like something was calling him. His chocolate eyes shut and he's sucked into his mindscape. Andy stands before him, dark horns curling atop his head and tall frame looming over him like a devout protector. Here, Remington feels normal, less like his mind is being shoved through a woodchipper. Everything hurts less. He feels like himself again, from before this mess with that asylum happened. Before him and his love were tortured.
"Andy." Remington greets in confusion, not understanding why he was called here, though appreciating it nonetheless.
He'd missed the demon, growing fond of him as they shared in the adoration of the girl that connected their minds and hearts where their souls were at war. The demon steps forward with a sad grin, bringing the vampire into a gentle yet firm hug. It was strange, the two had never really shared any sort of affection aside from their occasional shared embraces of Elizabeth when the demon could manage some time out of the vampires head. Even then, both just assumed the other didn't like them, though that wasn't true. Not anymore. If Remington had known, he would have hugged Andy more, always one for physical touch as his love language.
"I need to show you something." Andy lifts his pointer finger up, tapping Remington on the center of his forehead.
Immediately, a scene plays before his eyes. It was Andy, in some place both cold and hot at the same time, snow littered the ground but the air was burning hot. He was stood before a handsome man with large, pitch black feathered wings on his back.
"You know demons are unable to feel love."
"But why? I don't understand. Did we do something wrong?" He had questioned the man, an expression of deep confusion and sadness etched into his features.
"No. Demons were simply born with the inability to feel that emotion as a byproduct of my fall, my curse for you all to bear as well. Think nothing of it, for it will never change."
With a pained nod, Andy gives a short bow before pivoting on his heel and leaving the snow covered room. He doesn't let his tears of resignation fall. He is a demon, older than most others and the general of Lucifer's army. His most trusted subject. He isn't allowed to cry, it is a sign of weakness and he is not allowed to be weak.
He closes his eyes, entering one of the few summoning circles down in Hell, appearing on Earth. Through the bones of lingering ghosts, he crawls his way out from an open grave, the only entrance point to Earth from Hell aside from a living-made summoning circle. His body invisible to every living thing, Andy dusts off his black blouse, glancing back at the grave he came out of. The open grave was on the outskirts of the cemetery, a mass of many different gravestones, few new, many old and mossy. Already he can feel his being flickering, the pull of Hell trying to drag him back through the grave.
Taking a moment to look around at the recent gravestones, he was likely somewhere in the United States during the 1970s. Andy would never be able to tell what spurred him, his being, to travel through those graveyard woods. It was like his immortal, damned soul led him there. There was a man a few feet away, a vampire, feasting on a dead deer. The man was grumbling about how it was annoying that animal blood didn't work as well as human blood. He stands up, his spiked black hair and deep brown eyes falling automatically on the place where Andy stood, though he couldn't see him.
Andy, desperate for the chance at love, made a decision. He was going to possess this vampire and in turn, be able to feel love. A new hope blossomed in his still heart.
The demon lunges forward, hands outstretched and touching the vampires temples-
The scene stopped, as though it was paused. Remington looked up at Andy with a new sort of understanding in his gaze.
"So that's why you possessed me. You just wanted to feel love. Didn't you know that vampires didn't usually get soulmates?"
"Of course, but I was desperate and you could at least feel love. Demons don't have the capacity at all. So imagine my surprise when I possessed you, only to immediately be able to tell that your other half, your promised, had not yet been found. That's why I was so adamant about a full possession. I would have known to go out and look for them."
"I wish you had told me after we joined bodies. Andy, we could've been friends... lovers, a lot sooner... For years, years, I thought you hated me, so I was hostile... I'm so sorry, I wish you had told me." Remington exclaims, tears beginning to track down his cheeks.
Remington should have talked to Andy more, tried harder to break down the walls Andy had built around his heart from his time in the Underworld, in Hell. Elizabeth shattered them with time (she's always been so kind), Remington could have too if only he had really tried. Then, as they grew closer, Remington never told him how he felt, how as they finally got to know each other, he'd grown to love Andy as he loved Elizabeth. He kept it bottled up, blocked from the telepathic bond they all shared, because he didn't believe there was a chance Andy felt the same despite his actions. Not after the way Remington treated him. Even now, he's not sure.
"I didn't think you would believe me. I was a demon who had forced my way into your life without consent. I didn't think there was any hope for a bond between us... and I was hesitant to try." Andy says, a frown marring his lips.
"I might not have at first, but I'd imagine you could've convinced me. I was so desperate for a promised, I don't think it would've taken much to heighten my hopes."
There's a moment of silence. Remington wraps his arms around Andy once more, bringing the taller demon into another hug. To think that there was a possibility for them to have been friends, for them to have gotten a chance to really explore their relationship and see where it led them. Remington was forever grateful to Elizabeth for bringing them together, even if it wasn't entirely intentional.
"I... listen Remington, that's besides the point of why I'm truly here. I'm saying goodbye."
"What?!" Remington pulls back from the hug he initiated, quick to exclaim in surprise.
"Elizabeth won't last the trip back to that warlock, it's too far and her magic is ripping apart her soul as your bond is ripping apart yours. If I give up half of my soul to mend hers, then she'll not only survive the trip, but she'll gain immortality. You two can be together for longer than however many human years she has left. I know you don't want her to become a vampire like you, this is the next best thing."
With a solemn nod, Remington confirms Andy's suspicions. Even though he feels no pain at the moment, Remington can feel both his and Eliza's souls chipping away.
"She was yours. She was always yours. Never mine. Never ours like I hoped. Demons... they don't deserve to love or be loved, its been written that way since the beginning of time. Our curse to bear. That's why we don't have a promised. Take care of your sweetness for me, okay? Tell her that... tell her that... I died for something beautiful." Andy smiles, a devastatingly breathtaking sight, tears trailing down his cheeks with the weight of what he is about to do.
Remington wanted to tell him it wasn't true, that Elizabeth was theirs just as they were hers. The words got stuck in his throat as he fought back a sob, a solemn expression etched into his pretty features, knowing that nothing he did would stop Andy. Whether he told him or not, Andy would still do this. But he deserves to know that they both love him, that he's their promised now too. They never got to give the mark to Andy. There was always something going on, he couldn't stick around on this plain for long and something went wrong every time. Even then, their souls are all joined together, mark or not, they're mates, through and through!
The demon closes his eyes, tilting his head back as a silver glow begins to shimmer around him. A translucent outline of his soul glows in his chest, a piece of it already missing. Bringing up a clawed hand, he takes a step back before plunging his hand into his chest. Ripping his soul out of his body, he calls out a word in latin, his deteriorating soul beginning to split and crack. Much like the general depiction of a broken heart, it cracks down the middle, one part disappearing and the other glowing gold.
"Wait Andy, you, you're our pro-"
The ability to speak hits him so suddenly he can't get the words out correctly. Remington stumbles over the sob stuck in his throat, wide eyes glistening and expression morphed into one of desperation. He had to tell him. He has to! Andy needs to know Remington and Elizabeth love him like they love each other, with every inch of their beings.
Andy is gone before Remington can tell him that he's their soulmate too.
Remington falls forwards suddenly, waking up with a devastated, emotional cry falling from his lips. He feels no pain, the world isn't blurry. He looks over at his love to see tears still falling down her cheeks, but now, there are no shadows. A dim silver glow shimmers around her, and her exposed collarbone reveals that her mark is mostly deprived of red now, the singular dot in the middle of the symbol being the only crimson left.
"Sebastian, I think... we're okay now."
Austin looks over, having woken up well over an hour ago, though Remington would never realize how long he was in his mind with Andy. "Something is different. You don't... smell odd anymore."
"What happened Remington?" Both of his brothers look back at him, though Emerson was the one who spoke.
"Andy, he saved her, saved us." His words are short, resigned, and the two other vampires get the hint that he didn't wish to speak about it.
Emerson leans over the seat, running a glowing hand over Elizabeth's forehead. Hm, she truly is okay now.
But...
Why is Remington so sad about the demon? He thought they hated each other. With a sigh, Emerson pats his brother on the cheek, to which Remington flinched away, turning back around with a confused frown, relief bubbling up in his chest like it never had before.
[A/N: This was originally just Elizabeth dating Andy and Remington, but now it's technically all three of them dating each other but the boys didn't want to admit it till it was too late ๐ฅด. Satisfying my irl crush on both of them I guess ๐ฅด๐ฅด]
