In the end, they agreed on Ajax faking some kind of injury, but he oversold it and injured himself for real, twisting his ankle pretty badly, so October can take him to the nurse. October helped him halfway to the nurse's office, but Ajax said, "You go. I got this." He hobbled off, so October took off to meet Wednesday at the Nevermore gate.

It looked like something died on Wednesday's head. "What died on your head?"

"Shut up," Wednesday said, getting in the passenger seat of a car.

"It's a snood," Enid told him.

"Okay," October replied.

He got in the backseat of the car.

Tyler looked back at him and Enid got in on the other side.

Enid asked, "Wait, he's our Uber drive?"

"Uber drive?" Tyler replied. "I thought we were going on a date."

Enid seemed confused, "I thought we were going to break into a mansion."

"Is this a double date?" Tyler said, "I thought she was a lesbian."

October asked, "Are you going on a date while Enid and I break into a mansion?"

The last time he was alone with someone, that person ended up in a coma.

Tyler was looking at Enid and Wednesday. He asked, "And what's up with the weird matching hoodie scarf things?"

"Don't ask," Wednesday said. "Just drive."

Tyler turned the car on and started driving.

Xavier went to Ajax's and October's dorm room. He wanted to ask October if he would come watch a horror movie and maybe even make out a little. It had taken a surprising short time, at least a week and a few days, for Xavier to come to terms with the fact that he liked October. He had spent a lot of time going over his past crushes, which were, all female, with the exception of the non-binary person, Taylor, who Xavier crushed on. Taylor was dating a girl at the time, so that was a bust.

Xavier had looked into sexualities, he wasn't bisexual like October, and Xavier wasn't bi, even though he liked October, who was a boy, which was even more confusing.

Xavier didn't like guys; at least he thought so, considering his past crushes.

He had found himself liking the person that October was.

October wasn't manipulative, he was blunt in a way, and he was different, which was good. October was kooky and 'spooky.' It also didn't hurt that he was also pretty to look at. That day at the Weathervane on Outreach Day, when October put his chin on his hand on the counter, looking bored...Xavier did notice how he looked good. He wasn't lying about that.

Although, now that October had facial and neck scars, it was just hard to look at. But once they fully healed, which it was, Xavier had found the scars strangely aesthetically pleasing to look at.

So, he did a lot of looking into sexualities and decided that he was pansexual. He liked October, despite him being a guy. Xavier was willing to give it a try if October was willing.

So, he knocked on the door and it took a minute or two for Ajax to finally open the door.

Xavier noticed how Ajax seemed to be hobbling, "You okay?"

"Yeah, twisted my ankle," Ajax replied. "What's up?"

Xavier looked around the room. The bathroom door was open, "Where's October?"

"He went to Gates mansion," Ajax replied. "He said something about the mayor figuring something out while over there before he got ran over. So, I guess October wants to figure out what it is that the mayor found out."

"Did he say who's going with? I know Wednesday is obviously going with him," Xavier said.

Ajax scoffed, "More like he's going with her. I think he said Enid and Tyler are going with them."

That was oddly chilling, "Tyler?"

Ajax said, "Yeah, why?"

They're going with a monster to break into a mansion. He had to go before they got killed. "No reason. I got to go."

He took off.

They got to the gate of the mansion.

Enid asked, "Seriously, you wanna go in there? This place is creepy AF."

"I know," Wednesday said. She went to the gate.

"Okay, this isn't what I signed up for," Tyler stated. He looked at Enid.

"I owe my bro a favor because I painted his nails," Enid told him. "I always return the favor."

"You can wait in the car," October told him. "There are three people which should be enough."

Wednesday started picking the gate padlock. "I don't want to celebrate my birthday by going out to dinner." She unlocked the padlock and looked at Tyler, "I want to do this."

"Then you should've just said so. You didn't have to trick me," Tyler replied.

Wednesday unwound the chains and pushed open the gate doors, "Like October said, you can wait in the car. I'm going to go check out the garage."

Wednesday went to the garage and yanked on the door handles but it did budge.

"Let me try," Tyler said. Wednesday moved out of his way and he pulled on the handles. "This is pointless."

"Enid, you can open it," October told the blonde.

Enid went to pull on it. She tugged on it, once, twice, thrice...it opened.

"Whoa," Tyler replied.

Tyler and Wednesday were looking at Enid in some semblance of shock. Although Wednesday looked impassive, but October can tell she was surprised.

"She's a werewolf," October told them. "She's strong."

"Yeah, it's a werewolf thing," Enid agreed.

They walked in the garage and Wednesday turned on the overhead light. It flickered on, the light a orange-red color. The light was above a car that was hidden underneath a tarp.

"Five bucks that underneath that tarp, it's the blue Cadillac with no license plates," October joked, shining a flashlight on the car.

Wednesday lifted a portion of the tarp and looked at it, "This is the car that hit the mayor."

"Okay," Enid said. "This just took a dark turn. We need to call Tyler's dad right freaking now."

Wednesday turned to look at her, "Why? So he can take October and me back to Nevermore and get us expelled? Its not gonna happen."

The light flickering was beginning to get on October's nerves.

Wednesday moved on to the door that led to the inside the house and opened it.

The door creaked open.

"This is the night I'm gonna die," Tyler muttered.

October rolled his eyes at Tyler's bitching. He wanted to tell Tyler to shut up, but refrained from that.

October followed Wednesday into what was probably the living room, looking in the opened door.

Wednesday was looking at the painting.

October looked at the painting too. "That's an awful painting. Like one of those really old book covers."

Wednesday motioned with her head to follow her. He followed her, with Tyler and Enid following them into a different room, which looked like it was used for game, considering the mounted deer head on the wall.

Everything was dusty and cobwebby.

October looked at some cobwebs coating some furniture. It was a good thing he didn't have allergies, or he would've ended up dead.

There was a creaking sound and October turned around to see that a bookshelf had opened, revealing a painting of Joseph Crackstone on a pier, complete with melted candles.

Enid whimpered, "Who doesn't have a spooky built-in altar in their family library?"

"We keep ours in the living room," October told her.

Wednesday nodded in agreement, "More seating for year-long Dรญa de los Muertos."

Enid whimpered again and Wednesday went forward with October following her.

BLOOD WILL RAIN was written on a section of the wall in red wax. There was a WHEN I RISE written in red wax on another portion.

There were even more melted candles under the painting of Crackstone. Who the hell was so obsessed with that guy?

Wednesday touched a few candles, "They're still warm."

Enid whimpered again.

"All right, Tyler, you and October check the rest of the ground floor. Enid and I will search upstairs," Wednesday ordered.

Enid asked, "We will?" She followed after Wednesday.

October stood with Tyler, who looked at the painting of Crackstone again. "You search this half and I'll check out the other half and the spider basement."

Tyler asked, "Why do you get to check out the basement?"

October countered, "I've built up an immunity to black widow venom, so I can go into the basement."

"Fine," Tyler grumbled, "You can check out the spider basement."

"Thanks, man, that's what I wanted," October told him.

Tyler asked, "Is it wise to split up? I also found it stupid that people split up in horror movies."

"That's horror movies. This is real life," October told him. He went in one way and Tyler went the other way. After checking the living room, he went into the basement. He looked at some shelves filled with jars and other objects. He turned the overhead light on. There was a table that had his throwing knife on it โ€“ he heard screaming and then a clatter. He ran over to where it looked like a dumbwaiter was.

Enid and Wednesday seemed to have tumbled out.

October asked, "Are you two okay?"

"No," Enid said. "Tyler told us to get out because the monster was coming after us. I think he got attacked."

October asked, "How the hell does that monster know how to open doors?"

There was stomping from upstairs and dust rained down.

It sounded like it was hitting the door that October had closed. He would've heard that thing hitting a door to get in, but he didn't.

How stupid did Tyler think he was?

There was snarling.

Wednesday shoved him and Enid to the basement window, thankfully there was a chair to step on. Can he fit through that?

October helped her up through the window. It seemed like the monster broke the door and Enid screamed.

Wednesday stopped to look at some stuff in the jars.

Enid asked, "What are you doing?"

"Yeah, those are the body part that's missing from the monster's victims," October told her. "Come on."

Wednesday crawled through the window, "What about you?"

October darted past the shelves, as it sounded like the monster knocked over the lamp and ran for the basement window. He ran up the basement stairs and towards the door that led to the garage door that they had came through.

Enid was running for the gate entrance and Wednesday was coming from the tunnel.

October ran to her, "Let's go."

They ran for the gate and left through it.

Enid asked, "What happened to Tyler?"

"Screw him," October said. "How did the monster get inside without being loud as hell? I didn't hear crap when I was down there until you both crashed down from the dumbwaiter. And he didn't want me checking out the basement. He'll probably emerge from the house somehow getting past the monster. How about that?"

Enid looked confused, "You think the monster is Tyler?"

October looked at Wednesday, "Did she not hear a word I said?" Wednesday shrugged.

"Ooh, that makes sense," Enid said uneasily.

"Don't say anything and don't make it obvious, because the sheriff will want more than just our word since Tyler is his son," October told Enid, who nodded.

They waited for a few more minutes.

"Let's get the monster," Wednesday grumbled and they went back to the mansion. It looked like Tyler was sitting in the tunnel.

He looked to be in pain, "I thought you left me behind."

Enid yelled, "That thing is still inside!"

October winced at how fake that kind of sounded, "I agree, we need to hurry!"

Enid cringed at how fake that sounded.

Acting was clearly not their strong suit.

Wednesday asked, "Can you walk?"

It looked like Tyler had three scratches on his right shoulder.

Xavier showed up.

Wednesday asked, "Where'd you come from?"

Xavier looked awkward and took off his jacket. "Here. Take this." He pressed it to the scratches on Tyler's shoulder. "What happened to him?"

"Monster attacked him," October told Xavier.

They went back to Tyler's house so they can bandage Tyler up. At least it looked like he wasn't going to need stitches or scar.

"You can join the club, Tyler," October told him.

Tyler asked, "Club?"

"The Monster Scar Club," October said. "You, me, and Eugene got attacked by the monster and survived with scars. I'm going to president and Eugene will be co-president. Or he can be president since he's in a coma." He nodded, "Maybe make some tee-shirts."

Tyler looked at him, "Sure..." Wednesday finally finished bandaging up Tyler, "Thanks, doc."

October looked at Xavier who looked at him.

"Not to make this about me, but I am having a full-blown panic attack now," Enid said. "We need to get back before Weems realizes we've been gone."

The sheriff walked in, "What the hell happened?" He walked towards Wednesday, "It was you, wasn't it?"

Tyler got up, "Wait, Dad, please. I'm okay."

"Sheriff, I understand you're upset, but I think you need to see something," Wednesday said.

October let Wednesday go with the sheriff back to the mansion. He would've gone with her, but Xavier had looked at him, which meant he really wanted to talk so, he went back to Nevermore with Xavier and Enid.

"I am mad at your sister," Enid told October. "I don't want you to chose between me or her, so you should stay neutral on the subject." She stormed off towards Ophelia Hall.

October stared after her, baffled by that statement, "Okay?" He didn't get why she was mad at Wednesday even though Enid went along with her even though Enid was repaying the favor for October. So, it left Xavier and October to walk back.

October asked, "How did you know where we were at?"

"I asked Ajax where you were and he said that you were at the Gates mansion," Xavier responded with a shrug. "I got a little worried."

"Oh," October said.

"I mean, being near Tyler knowing that he scratched up your face must've been torture," Xavier said.

"Nah," October said. "I read Atlas Shrugged willingly. I actually can't even remember what happened in that book. Atlast may have shrugged, but I dry-heaved my entire way through it. At one point, I even stabbed myself in the thigh because that was more entertaining than what I was reading."

"Must've been real boring," Xavier told him.

"It was boring, but I read The Man Who Could Not Kill Enough: The Secret Murders of Milwaukee's Jeffery Dahmer by Anne E. Schwartz, which was arguably worse," October said. "I wanted to read a book about a serial killer, but she screwed that up. It was mostly about Schwartz patting herself on the back for being the first reporter on the scene and how great she was for developing a great relationship with the Mikwaukee police department. I wanted to know about the guy who ate people! Even the title is bothersome because he didn't really like the killing part. The self-congratulatory book was better than The Scarlet Letter that I had to read for English class."

Xavier looked at him.

"I read the same paragraph over and over and over again, with no clue what it said. I turned to the next chapter. Same result. Tried one more time and still had the same result," October said. "There were two pages dedicated to a description of a room for symbolism."

"I feel the same when I read Tolkien," Xavier said.

October looked at him, "Tolkien isn't awful."

"I mean, I read the trilogy and I think it's worth it, but I don't care about the history of a battering ram," Xavier told him. "What is the worst book you ever read? I was forced to read Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Even my classmates and teacher hated it."

"It wasn't that bad," October said. "I laughed when Tess killed Alec. I hoped she would've killed Angel, but she didn't. I was pissed when she said that she killed Alec for Angel. We were also forced to read the book and even my classmates and teacher hated it. She had us rewrite the ending, but I was the only one in that class that made her live. I had her kill Angel as well and made her run away with her sister so they can go on a murder spree and rob trains, like a female version of Jesse James. I read 50 Shades and its sequels. I read one page at one point and I felt like I was having a stroke."

Xavier asked, "Why would you read that?"

"I read the Twilight books and thought I might as well move on to the fanfic version, since I challenged myself to read the worst books out there," October explained. "The second Twilight book was awful. There were pages with the name of the month on them and 'I miss Edward'. Honestly, the books were so bad; I wouldn't even bludgeon Wednesday or Pugsley with them because that's just cruel and unnecessary. The only useful thing they were good for was fire fuel when I burned down those buildings. The police was confused and I think they assumed that the fire was started by a very pissed off woman."

They finally reached October's and Ajax's dorm room.

"Bye," October told him before going inside, closing the door in Xavier's face.

Well, there was always tomorrow.
