They got back to Nevermore in time for lunch. Well, Wednesday wasn't getting food but October found some veggie pizza and bruschetta that didn't have meat on it.
Morticia asked, "You're not hungry, darling?"
"My appetite eludes me, Mother," Wednesday said. She added, "The same way the truth eludes you." She walked away and October had to follow her, because she glared back at him to get him to follow.
Then Ajax came up to him, "Come over here, real quick."
October turned and followed Ajax over to a table, where his parents and Xavier were at.
"This is my roommate, October," Ajax said. "I told you about the fact he has a pet black widow."
Ajax's parents looked at him, clearly taking in the three scars. October spotted Enid with her family. She waved at him, so he waved back.
Ajax's mom said, "Your parents named you after the name of the month?"
October shrugged, "I don't see why not. You named your son after a brand of dish soap."
Xavier snickered and Ajax's mom looked at her son, "I like this one."
"I have to get back to my family," October told Ajax and took off to go to his family's table. He sat down next to Pugsley, across from Wednesday.
Morticia asked October, "What did they want?"
"I don't know," October replied. "Ajax wanted me to meet his family for some weird reason." He shrugged and picked at his veggie pizza.
Wednesday had narrowed her eyes at him, so October glared back at her, before taking a bite out of the pizza. He looked at Thornhill who was sitting with Yoko and some other vampires. She didn't seem aware that he knew she was in cahoots with the monster.
It was going fine, until the sheriff said, "Gomez Addams,"
Gomez seemed to freeze before he stood up to look at Sheriff Galpin. "How can I help you, Sheriff?"
The sheriff took out handcuffs, "You're under the arrest for the murder of Garrett Gates."
Did he really have to do this in front of the whole school?
Sheriff Galpin put Gomez in handcuffs, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law." Sheriff Galpin started leading Gomez away.
Pugsley said, "Dad?"
Once again, October felt useless as he watched his dad get taken away, while the Nevermore students and their parents watched. It felt so much like that night of the Rave'N where he essentially watched Eugene get attacked by the monster while he stood by, doing nothing.
He looked at Morticia, hoping for her to do something, but she didn't.
"Sorry about your dad," Ajax to October.
Yeah, Bianca, Xavier, and Enid were also apologetic over his dad getting arrested.
"Even though he killed a normie," Ajax added.
"Never believe rumors," October said. "Like my sister killing someone. He didn't even die. He lost a testicle and that was because he bullied my brother, by tying him up, stuffing an apple in his mouth, and shutting him in a locker. Besides, my dad would die if he was away from my mother for long periods of time. I doubt he intentionally murdered someone." He added, "Accidentally, maybe, but not intentionally."
Ajax nodded, "I guess."
"Wednesday plans on talking to him in jail," October said.
Ajax asked, "So, are you going to visit him too?"
"No," October said. "She said that I'll get in the way."
Ajax asked, "How are your mother and brother handling it?"
"My mom's devastated," October told him. "She doesn't like him in orange. Pugsley is upset, because he and my dad were going to go fishing tomorrow."
Ajax asked, "And what are you going to do?"
October asked, "What would you say that if I plan to break into the coroner's office to steal Gates's autopsy report tomorrow?" He pointed at Ajax, "Don't answer. That was purely rhetorical."
"Knowing you, nothing about what you ask or say is purely rhetorical," Ajax replied.
Wednesday did stop by to visit Gomez, which yielded nothing, but apparently Gomez was lying. Garrett stalked Morticia and was obsessed with her, because she was nice to him.
October had chimed in, "I hate guys who think they're entitled to date someone because she's nice to them, or think that being friends for a month means that they should go out."
It was more like self-defense, because he attacked Gomez first; although, Gates was from the town's oldest and richest family.
"It sounds like self-defense to me," October said. "One stab wound and the guy attacked first. It's not like Dad Jodi Arias'd the guy."
"Well, Gates is dead," Wednesday replied.
"Still can be ruled as self-defense," October told her with a shrug.
"That's why I want you to look for an autopsy while I distract the sheriff," Wednesday told him.
He covered the camera lens with black electrical tape before going to check the filing cabinet for the file. He took pictures of the papers with his cell phone before putting it back before leaving for the sheriff station.
Wednesday came stomping out too. "He doesn't believe that this is all a distraction."
October asked, "All a distraction?"
Wednesday asked, "Don't you think it's funny that our father comes here and the coroner kills himself?"
"It is a bit weird," October admitted. "To coincidental."
"It's to distract me from Thornhill and the monster," Wednesday replied. "He didn't even hear the whole self-defense thing either. Did you get the autopsy?"
"I got pictures of the file since I wasn't going to take the whole damn thing," October said. "It said a stab wound and lacerations that resulted in a fall." He shrugged.
Wednesday nodded, "We need to talk to Mother."
"We should probably check on Pugsley though," October said.
Wednesday nodded, "Yeah."
Enid stopped him on his and Wednesday's way to see Pugsley.
Wednesday rolled her eyes and continued on with a bag of fishing bait that they had gotten from the car.
October asked, "What's up?"
Enid handed him some brochures, "This. This is what's up."
October looked at the brochures. One had The Happy Wolf Summer Camp, there was another Lycanthropy Summer Camp, and there was a Special Lycanthropy Summer Camp. He looked at Enid.
"They're brochures for lycanthrope conversion camp," Enid explained. "My mom wants to send me off to camp like what happened to my cousin Lucille when she couldn't wolf out."
"Sounds like one of those gay conversion camps," October said. "How bad is it?"
"It's horrible," Enid told him. "Lucille really doesn't talk about her seven weeks at one in the Balkan countryside. They yelled at her and insulted her, among other things she doesn't talk about."
"It other words it worked at the nice price of PTSD," October replied.
"Yeah, but she thinks I'm abnormal for not wolfing out about now," Enid told him.
"Why don't you join my family? We'll accept anyone society deems as weird," October said. He added, "Once my dad gets out of jail."
Enid asked, "Really?"
"Yeah," October replied with a shrug.
Enid hugged him, "Thanks."
He got to the pond where Pugsley and Wednesday were sitting on the pier.
"I always thought October would be the first one in the family behind bars," Pugsley. "And then I'll be next."
"Lurch and I had a bet going," Wednesday said.
October asked, "How mad did Lurch get for losing?"
"I thought he was going to finally say something besides just groaning," Wednesday told him. She looked at Pugsley, "Come on. Let's see if the fish are biting."
Pugsley didn't move for a few seconds, before he pulled the pin on a grenade and threw it in the water.
There was a small explosion and fish surfaced.
"Nice catch," October told Pugsley.
"I'm gonna miss him," Pugsley told them.
"It's not over yet," Wednesday said. "He's innocent."
October took a grenade and pulled the pin, before tossing it in the pond. There was a small explosion and fish surface.
It looked to have a bit more fish than Pugsley's catch.
"Well..." Pugsley started. "If anyone can figure out who really committed the crime...it's you." He directed that towards Wednesday. "You have to find out the truth and free Dad."
"Well, until that happens, we both know Mother will be falling apart." She clarified, "Which means we have to be strong. And by 'we' I mean you and October."
"Hey," October said offended.
"Since the monster attacked you, you haven't been fully in your right mind," Wednesday told him. "Now, one of you, give me one of those."
Pugsley a grenade out of the bag and handed it to Wednesday, who pulled the pin and threw it in the water. It was a bit of a bigger explosion than the first two.
Wednesday asked, "Where is Mother anyway?"
"She said she wanted to be alone." Pugsley told her, "Somewhere where no one would find her."
"I think I know where she is," Wednesday said. "I'll go talk to her."
"I'll stay here and fish with Pugsley," October told Wednesday, who nodded and took off.
