Represents : No single trait defines her. She is simply Maia's shadow self. On a surface level , she can be seen as Author-Chan's dark foil. The ruthless actions she takes are meticulous , with the motive varying depending on the perspective. Shes hard to get a read on , even by the other personas. If she had to be put into a single trait , it would be obsession.

She cuts down whoever stands in her way , not even recognizing that what she does is inherently evil. If it benefits the body she resides in , then it's good. She has no understanding of black and white morality , making her absolutely neutral.

With everything that has happened in Maia's life , the one thing she and Amaris have in common is the desire for control. That one wish fuels every thought and every action of Amaris. Control over themselves , and whatever safety they can latch on. Anything that threatens their safety sickens them to their core.

Originally , Villain Maia was assumed to be the shadow self , but it was after Author forgave her , did the true shadow reveal itself.

Benefits : In a fucked up away , she brings Maia both control and safety , sometimes more efficiently than all the personas combined ( excluding Child Maia ). It's unknown if she does this with the intention to help Maia or herself , but she will alert her on anything that feels off within the brain.

Most visible : She rarely appears , and when she does , it's random. She can make herself completely incognito , only revealing herself to keep everyone constantly on edge. It forces the others to be on standby. Because of her unknown motives , the other personas can't hesitate to take action. It could be her keeping them vigilante at all times in case of a threat appearing in the brain... but the threat could also be her. She hides in the deepest part of the subconscious , only being able to move around through the nerves.

Those rare occasions always leave Maia in disarray. A confused , crying , scared , writhing mess...Thats when Artemis is allowed to intervene.

Personality : Its hard to get a read on them , but from a outsider's perspective , they're quiet and pessimistic. Beyond that , she's actually very vocal and hyperactive , it can easily be mistaken for mania. They don't care for the other personas , only seeing them as a means to an end. Her only exception is Author-Chan. She DESPISES her , and claws through everything in their way to get to her. Amaris's personality can be seen as crude and uncaring , getting annoyed at anything that even exists around her.

Powers : Being dark magic itself , she naturally has the ability to phase through walls , see in the dark , and camouflage herself under the shadow of any physical material. One power that makes her unique is that she can enter Author-Chan's daydreams , and twist them to whatever she pleases. Author-Chan is naturally gifted with the ability to lucid dream , but controlling those dreams becomes more difficult with Amaris corrupting them.

Amaris can also change her form to whatever is suitable for the nightmare. An example was when Author-Chan had a nightmare of being hunted down by Amaris in a large spooky forest. The chase excited her so much that she grew bigger and towered over the trees , her nails clawing into the bark. She cornered Author-Chan and tore her into shreds. Artemis stepped in to prevent her from continuing , but that form has always been a favorite for Amaris.

Weapons : her sniper and hand gun , along with her tail with a hallucinogenic liquid

Crush : No one , she actually hates relationships because she thinks they get in the way of her ambitions. Yet , at the same time...she obsessively fantasizes of a relationship. Its a 50/50 with her :/

Backstory :

Everything was happening because of them. This sickness that refuses to stay dormant. It infects and destroys everything it touches , and unlike the others with the fake title of " villain " , it doesn't have a noble reason that'll benefit Author-Chan.

Amaris's only motive is to gain whatever safety and control it can find , even at the detriment of Author-Chan , and those she's close with.

The sacred darkness has always been there , since the birth of the universe. Pieces of this dark matter broke off and scattered across the universe , infecting anything that had the lingering scent of death ( weeping angels , coffins , ect )

This is how evil was born. A piece was left inside of a coffin , and would try to transfer itself into Artemis. It couldn't keep a grasp on her , so in a fit of anger , it tried to kill her.

Artemis rewrote her fate , and the darkness would instead be transferred into another version of herself. When it registered that it was in another host , another version of Artemis no less , it began to take control of her.

Everything was perfect. Everything was as it should be. It was perfect...so why did she feel so sick inside ? By transferring themselves into Author-Chan , they gained their physical features , but also their emotions , morals , and thoughts. It overwhelmed her.

She tried to escape Author's body , but couldn't. Something , or rather , someone , was keeping her trapped there. She tries to gain control over Author's body through manipulating the personas , but there was always one person that stood in her way...her original vessel...Artemis.

Was this...consequence ??

As the years went by , she saw what this girl went through , and it forced her to start caring about the girl. It came from a selfish place , but it was there. A spark of human empathy.

Her goals shifted.

She wasn't going to leave and kill this girl , she was going to consume this body , and make it her own. She loathes Artemis. This pathetic writer who gave her an identity , and who created another version of herself out of cowardice. Both the past ( Child Maia ) and future ( Artemis ) have come for her.

She fucking hated consequence. She would tear at it by the throat if she could...well if she couldn't leave this body , then she would make this body hers. An identity that was once alien to her , she now embraces. Since it's her body , it's only fair to kill off the others , right ? Oh , the delicious look Artemis will gift her when she understands that everything she's done was for NOTHING.

Trivia :

— I chose to symbolize the coffin as the seal of Divine Darkness. Coffins are often associated with the final resting place. I felt like a part of me died when my life took a turn for the worst and my intrusive thoughts were suffocating me , hence why Artemis was being strangled by the magic was a euphemism for suicide.

— If you hear a whistle from the darkness , RUN

— When she was first conceptualized , I had a hard time defining her. Her original design was inspired by a Bendy comic I enjoyed as a kid called Bendy Before the Ink Machine ( BBTIM for short ).

If I had to summarize Beta Amaris , it would be a fusion of BBTIM Bendy and Bill Cipher. I eventually fell out of love with the idea , and scrapped it after creating Artemis's story. Beta Amaris would've contradicted with Demon Maia , and take away from Amaris being a actual threat.

Then it hit me.

Why not use my intrusive thoughts as reference ? It would serve as a dark subversion of Artemis's aesthetic. I rewrote her backstory and redesigned her , taking inspiration from Homura from Magica Modaka and Serial Experiment Lain.

— Remember when I said each persona has their own way of physically manifesting themselves to the outside world ? Well , Amaris can manifest herself as well. Its just...more disturbing then others. When I'm overwhelmed with depression , rage or anything like the sort , it has to be dealt with IMMEDIATELY. If it isn't , then I'm crying and vomiting blood. I'm really nauseous and there's loud ringing in my ear.

— Her skin looks normal in the light , but if you put her in a dark room or wait till night time , she has the skeletal system painted onto her body and it glows in the dark. Her blood is also bioluminescent.
