The moon is such a beautiful creation, isn't it? But for Noor, now it seemed daunting from the hospital room, not as attractive as it always did. Its shiny light only reminded Noor of the car flash that sped down the road, ending 15 years of waiting in a blink. It was supposed to be simple: him dropping her home and then returning to his after their beautiful trip to London.

As Noor's tired eyes gazed at the moon, her mind swirled with numerous "what ifs." The main "what if" that stuck to her heart more than anything was, "What if she had held him in a hug a minute longer instead of urging him to go home?" Maybe he wouldn't be lying in the bed of pain.

The doctors had told them that the injury was severe, especially in the brain, and there could be a chance of memory loss. Noor prayed for two weeks for this not to happen, but all her prayers were futile when he woke up and asked for someone she thought was out of the story.

"Can you please call Ghazal?"

Noor's heart sank at his words. She had always been a part of his past, a chapter he had promised was closed. Hearing him ask for her now was like a dagger to Noor's already aching heart.

She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "Ghazal?" she repeated her voice barely a whisper.

"Yes," he replied, his eyes searching hers for recognition. "Can you call her? I need to see her."

Noor nodded, forcing a smile despite the turmoil inside her. She stepped out of the room, her mind racing. How could she call Ghazal? Would she even come? More importantly, what would this mean for her and him?

She found a quiet corner in the hospital and pulled out her phone, dialling Ghazal's number with trembling hands. After a few rings, Ghazal answered, sounding surprised to hear from her.

Noor's voice trembled as she spoke to Ghazal on the phone. "Ghazal, it's Noor. He's had an accident... he woke up and asked for you."

There was a moment of stunned silence on the other end before Ghazal responded, her voice laced with disbelief and a hint of triumph, "Finally, he asked for me. I guess your love wasn't enough, after all, Noor."

Noor felt a pang of hurt at Ghazal's words, but she pushed it aside, focusing on the urgency of the situation. "Please, Ghazal, come to the hospital. He needs to see you."

Ghazal chuckled, a sound that cut through Noor like a knife. "I'll be there," she said, her tone cool and detached.

Noor quickly ended the call, unable to bear hearing any more. She leaned against the wall, tears welling up in her eyes. She couldn't believe this was happeningโ€”her worst fears coming to life before her eyes. She knew she had to be strong, for him, but the pain in her heart was overwhelming.

Noor stood nervously by his bedside as Ghazal entered the room, her presence causing a stir among his family members gathered there. They exchanged puzzled glances, wondering who this unfamiliar woman was.

"Who are you?" his sister asked, her voice tinged with suspicion.

Ghazal met their gaze calmly. "I'm Ghazal," she replied evenly. "I'm his ex-girlfriend."

The room fell into a tense silence. Noor felt a mix of emotionsโ€”anger, helplessness, and heartacheโ€”all swirling inside her. His family turned to her, their expressions questioning and hurt.

"He never mentioned her," his mother whispered, her eyes narrowing.

Noor looked down, her voice barely a whisper. "He did mention her to me."

His mother, shocked and angry, scolded her. "Why didn't you ever say anything?"

Tears streamed down Noor's face as she explained, "He loved her so much. When you proposed the idea of an arranged marriage, he didn't want to go through with it because of her. He was going to tell you eventually, but they broke up a month ago. We decided to give our friendship a chance to become something more, and it was working until this accident happened."

She paused, her voice trembling. "Now that he's lost his memories, I can't pressure him by saying that I'm his girlfriend. He needs to regain those memories on his own, or his recovery will be harder if we force it."

His family stood there, absorbing her words, their anger and confusion slowly giving way to understanding and concern. Noor wiped her tears, hoping they would see that all she wanted was the best for him, even if it meant stepping aside for now.

Noor glanced over at his bed where Ghazal now sat, gently caressing his hand, quietly encouraging him to wake up. Turning to his family, Noor whispered, "We wait and hope."

Ever since he had asked for Ghazal, she made sure that Noor didn't have any moments alone with him. He appeared unaffected by Noor's absenceโ€”or so she thought. In the quiet nights when Ghazal wasn't around, Noor stole moments to herself, gazing at the moon and stars, gently caressing his scalp while he slept.

That's how it had been since his affection and love had shifted towards Ghazal.

She didn't know what the universe had in store for her and him together, but one thing was certain: she wouldn't give up, even if it meant a lifetime of chasing his love.

She leaned forward and kissed his cheek gently, feeling the faint scratches from the accident under her lips. His face softened, a faint smile playing on his lips in his dreams. She knew those dreams likely weren't about her, but she held onto hope that his heart would eventually overcome his mind. He had promised that no matter what happened, she would always hold a place in his heart.
