▌THE LINE TO ENTER THE MEMORIAL grounds grew larger and larger as vi and maeve stood in line. enforcers patting down and searching each and every person to make sure the place was secure and safe.

enforcers planted in every corner and area, ensuring no one slipped in unnoticed, despite their presence, an uneasy feeling still ran through maeves body as she noticed the amounts of people entering.

crowds like this were driven for disaster, chaos always breaking out when it came to events like these.

maeve followed closely behind vi and the man she learned was named lorris. her hands shoved in her back pockets as she scanned the area for anything remotely unusual.

vi walked, her movements tense and senses on high. the three of them moved to the front, pushing past multiple people who watched councillor mel walk to the podium on the large stage.

the woman did everything in her power to stay strong, her body trembling with sorrow as she stood tall infront of her fellow peers. as if she could crumble at the loss at any sudden moment.

as she began to speak, everyones eats listened up, hearing her speech of dedication towards her fellow councillors. her pride eating her up as she spoke with confidence, yet she still had the face of overwhelming sadness.

maeve, and the other two now stood in their places. the brunette girls stomach churned at the sudden feelings that bubbled inside of her. mixing together like it was brewing a potion.

sadness, sorrow and unease sat in her heart, but suddenly, the feeling of danger alerting pressed against her heart. she turned her head, her eyes landing on vi as she shared the same feeling.

something in the atmosphere was off, like it was hidden in the crowd.

her gaze flickered towards a figure that was covered fully head to toe in a large cover up. hiding something behind the green veil as she slowly started to turn back around, her eyes darted to the floor as her mind started to run.

vi followed her eyes as they flew up to another figure dressed in an enforcers outfit, "something's wrong." maeve leaned closer to the girl.

vi's eyes traced along a tattoo that was inked on the enforcers neck, something that maeve didn't recognise as she saw it, but it meant something to vi.

"i know." her tone was tense and alerted as she continued watching him.

vi immediately started to walk forward, maeve following behind her without a second thought. danger alerted in maeves mind continuously as they pushed past the crowd of people, closer to the stage.

heavy breaths were heard from beside them, silent sobs filled the room. the two of them reached the barrier that was surrounded by enforcers.

vi jumped over the barricade, maeve copying her actions as their eyes continued following the man. determined to figure out what the sudden panic was all about.

but before they could make it any further, two enforcers gripped against their arms, pushing them slightly back. "ma'am, you can't go in..."

the enforcers voice drained out as maeve struggled against his strength, her eyes flickering between the enforcer and the man with panic.

"no, stop." maeve pulled herself against his hold, pushing her shoulder back as she started to panic even more.

vi and maeve shared a look as they noticed the man getting closer and closer towards the stage, violets eyes filled with fury as she yanked against the enforcers hold, determination getting the best of her.

"no..." she whispered under her breath. both maeve and vi stopped fighting against them as they watched the tattooed man ascend the stairs.

his attention on mel as she was still unaware of the threat that grew closer towards her. the crowd stirred as they all noticed the sudden tension in the air.

maeve let out a gasp. the world started to echo around her as she watched the man smack mel with the gun in his hand. the counsellor fell to the ground with a smack.

then, in one swift movement, maeve broke ahold of the enforcers grip. aswell as vi did, the two of them standing in sudden shock as the crowd broke into loud screams, terror rising in each and every one of those people.

the people surged in every direction, doing everything in their power to evacuate the premises. the tattooed man shot the gun into the air.

the red streak of danger ran through the air, sending some sort of signal as it broke through the glass. "you aren't safe up here, toppers!" he shouted loudly.

"none of you are safe!" he shouted once again, repeating himself. vi and maeve stood shocked at the sudden violence, then the feeling of having to save the world again ran through them.

who the hell is this? no way this was jinx— she was insane. but she was still humble, humble enough to not tear down a memorial. despite the hatred in her heart.

maeve immediately went into action, sprinting infront of vi towards an enforcer that laid lifelessly on the ground due to another forbidden monster.

her eyes sparkled with sorrow as she stole the gun from his back, immediately standing back up and noticing vi run through the crowd to get to her.

her eyes darted around, noticing the man had now disappeared into thin air. her eyes widened as she looked around some more.

she noticed caitlyn now speed into action, a gun in hand as they both sent a small nod to eachother.

then, the sound of glass breaking rang through their ears, multiple large monsters breaking through and landing on the ground with a large bang.

the monsters were large machines, their helmets filled to the brim with the neon, purple liquid she recognised as shimmer.

her whole body tensed, watching four of them land, awaiting for their leader to stand with them, and when it did. horror shook the earths ground.

they all let out large roars as they immediately went to attack, maeve raised the gun in her hands, she shot the gun towards the glass helmet.

yet her eyes watched as it bounced right back off of it, its large hands now grabbing ahold of an enforcer and squeezing it to their death.

"how does this always happen?" maeve mumbled to herself as she started to rush around, shooting aimlessly around to try and defeat one of them.

from the corner of her eye, she watched vi dodge multiple hits from the machine. maeve eyebrows immediately furrowed, sending a bullet towards the machines arm and watching it burst off.

vi let out a hurried breath before rushing off away from the angered monster, she ran and ran until reaching a wall, maeve hot in her trail as the monster started to chase them.

maeve dodged multiple of its hits while vi managed to successfully climb up the wall. the brunette nodded towards her before sending more bullets, running backwards to run away from the monster.

just as she turned around to see where she had been going, the monster slammed its arm into her throat, choking her and pushing her up against the wall.

she did everything in her power to push it off, but it was to strong for her. the scream she let out ripped from her lungs in agony, using any and all breath she had left.

vi came running from the top of the wall, jumping off and landing atop of the machine. distracting it and causing it to let go of maeve.

maeve fell to the ground with heavy breaths, doing anything to refill her lungs. her hand held her chest as she was hunched over infront of herself.

vi slammed its head into the ground, vi landing harshly on the ground as it started to fight back, standing up and retracting the shard in its arm that acts like a knife.

maeve watched it walk closer as vi weakly pulled herself up against the wall. she sent a bullet right into the machines helmet, causing it to just miss its hit on vi's head.

vi swung herself around the monster, gripping against a small metal plate and starting to use all of her strength too rip it off of its helmet.

a yell emerged from her lungs as she pulled it off with great force, her body rolling on the ground as she landed. the shimmered smoke and liquid spilled from its helmet as it laid there unconscious.

maeve took a breath, holding her hand out and helping vi up. "good shot." vi said as she stood up. "perfect shot." maeve smirked.

caitlyn walked over during all the chaos, "you both alright?" her accent cut through the air, "we're fine" maeve nodded, her chest still heavy.

the loud and heavy sounds of an even large machined monster filled their ears, their eyes widening in horror as they all spun to see it still ruining the entire thing.

"cait. get the councillors out of here. i have an idea." vi's voice spoke, maeve immediately whipped her head around to face her. "what are you going to do?"

"save the world, princess." she winked sarcastically before running off, her mind set on one thing and one thing only.

"go, cait, go! i've got this." maeve rushed caitlyn to do what vi told her to do, maeve took ahold of her gun tightly in her hand once again.

her gaze watched as the monster chased after multiple enforcers. but relief washed over her once she realised everyone else of the community made it out remotely safe.

running forward, maeve aimed and hit the monster in the helmet, a crack forming and breaking in along it.

everyone grouped together, blood rushing to their heads as they all prepared for the impact of what was about to happen.

maddie stood beside caitlyn, a small gun in her hand as she stood with confidence. yet their breaths were still shallow, while maeve stood beside loris.

her body was the main sheild infront of them, if the machine were to attack, she would be hit first. and thats exactly the way she wanted it.

her gun was raised high as she watched the monsters movements carefully. watching as it stepped forward with heavy steps, shaking the earth beneath them to its core.

with the first step, caitlyn fired a bullet right into its helmet, purple smoke hissing from it as it took no real damage from it.

with each step it took closer towards us, another bullet shot towards it. leaving its mark but it just wasn't enough, their bullets started to become lesser and lesser.

caitlyn kept firing but maeve stood in her spot, her right eye looked over the barrel of the gun as her stance stayed confident. with its last step towards them, her finger pressed the trigger.

caitlyn following her actions as the two bullets flew with force towards it.

then, the world started to echo around her, like the world suddenly started moving in slow motion. watching as it roared with anger.

suddenly, just as it seemed like the end, a large blue beam ran through the air as the bullets hit the machines arm. the arm flung into its own helmet, the knife that was attached, piercing into itself.

the beam missed by an inch, instead running over the group as the electricity rang through it. coursing through the doors and slamming itself onto the wall opposite to it.

spears flew through the air, hitting each of the littler ones with force as they became unconscious, lifeless.

the larger one, the leader, staggered before it collapsed onto its knees, purple liquid rushing out from its helmet as it laid there lifelessly after their great escape.

each and every one of their bodies rushed with disbelief and relief once they noticed there was no more to be dealt with. everyone frozen in their places with heavy breaths and sweaty bodies.

maeve looked behind her, noticing vi and jayce on the stage with a hextech device in vi's hand, jayce hunched over beside her leg, his hand gripping his stomach.

maeve dropped the gun to the ground, her foot was splattered on with shimmer. the scars on her body started to cry with pain as she winced.

but she wasn't worried about that now.

through the haze of smoke, her and everyone elses eyes landed on the figures who saved them. and it wasn't who they were expecting, nor did they want it to be them.
