꒰ ❛ fight or flight ❜ ꒱
▌MAEVE CLIMBED UP BEHIND VI, the two of them determined to figure out if what they had assumed was true.
their hands gripped on each metal pole that sat against the frame of the ladder. each one after another, climbing up to the very top.
maeve wasn't exactly sure if she knew how to react if it was who it was. her heart was already sinking with each step that inched closer and closer to her answers.
the two reached the top, now being met with a small platform followed by a small amount of stairs. but when violet stepped against the stairs, her eyes widened as she saw the familiar blue coloured hair.
maeve then stepped up behind her. a small gasp leaving her mouth once she saw the scene infront of her, slightly jumbling over her own feet and stepping backwards.
"powder?" vi said wearily. the two girls watched as the blue haired girl slowly looked over her shoulder, the wind howled in their ears, slow breaths releasing from their lungs.
maeves heart completely dropped once she slowly spun around. the familiar blue eyes felt like heaven to the girl, "vi?" a pause lingered. "mae?"
vi started to step forward, the pace quickening towards the girl, "oh, powder!" tears welled in her eyes as she engulfed the small girl in a hug.
maeve felt shocked, her heart pounding in her chest as a tear fell down her face. an unfamiliar feeling, the salty, cold tear wasn't something she enjoyed, bringing the last memory of her crying years ago to flood her mind.
powders eyes raising from vi's shoulder, looking past her and towards maeve. who felt like her legs could collapse.
sobs left their mouths. maeve felt stuck in her spot. that was until vi opened her other arm up, inviting her to the emotional moment.
the brunettes eyes widened, her feet moving immediately towards her. something snapped inside the girls heart, hatred and love mixing together like the toxins in zauns air.
she had no idea what she had been feeling in the moment, feeling powders arm now wrap around her as vi held the two close.
vi suddenly pulled away from the hug, her hands now moving to powders cheeks while maeve stepped back once again.
tears were flooding the blue haired girls eyes as she looked up at her pink haired older sister. "i'm so sorry, powder, i— i tried to come back. i promise, i did. but i, i got arrested." vi rambled.
"marcus?" powder asked, her eyes down at the ground as she immediately came to conclusions.
"i don't know. i... it doesn't matter. i just... i never thought i'd see you— or mae, ever again." her eyes flicked to the girl whos hands were now shoved into her back pockets, eyes stuck on powder's boots.
vi immediately brung her into a hug again. maeve spun on her heels to face away, not wanting to experience this moment any longer due to the fact she honestly felt like she didn't belong here anymore.
the two sisters had a bond she could never truly understand. and whatever bond they all had together was now demolished. betrayal, abandonment and loneliness flooded over it like a tsunami, and whatever left of it was nearly impossible to fix.
"are you real?" jinx asked with hesitation in her voice, her eyes moved to maeve, "are you real?" jinx repeated herself. maeve looked over her shoulder, quiet tears falling from her eyes.
"im real. im here." maeve nodded.
"yes, ofcourse. it's me, vi, your sister." vi held onto the girls shoulders, powders eyes following back to hers, not before lingering on the emotional girl that stood a small distance from the duo.
"im here, im right here." vi stammered over her words, she watched as the small, cold tears streamed down powders face.
"things changed when you left. i changed." guilt washed over the girl. maeve couldn't help but ruin the small moment, rushing over and grabbing powder into a hug.
"we all did, pow. you did what you had to do to survive. no one is blaming you for that." her words sounded muddled against the girls hair.
powders arms looped around maeve as she reciprocated the hug, snuggling her face into the girls chest as she found comfort in the girls sudden warmth while a cold tear fell from her eye.
"what matters is we're together." vi's words spoke, pressing her hand against maeves back. maeve finally let go of the everlasting hug, her hands on the girls cheek, as they both looked at eachother.
powder looked past maeves shoulder to look at vi. instead, everyone heard the footsteps rise up the stairs, and once powder saw the person climb to the top, she pulled away quickly.
she immediately whipped around the machine gun that sat on her hip, the barrels facing towards caitlyn as she paused in her tracks.
"who's she?" powder asked, her face changing its demeanour immediately. her eyebrows furrowed, her expression hard and confused.
maeve put her hands up, "beats me." she said, stepping back and raising her eyebrows. letting vi deal with this.
"who are you?" caitlyn asked with an attitude, where maeve immediately stared at her in an expression that screamed 'are you serious?'
"it's okay. she's a friend." vi immediately put her hand up to assure the girl. "sevika wasn't lying? you're with an enforcer?" powder seemed hurt, betrayed all over again.
"your sister is jinx?" caitlyn sounded shocked, anger written behind her tone as she looked towards maeve.
"caitlyn, just listen, we can work this out." vi's words echoed against the mist that surrounded them. powder suddenly burst out.
"this is a trick! you're playing me!" her eyes were filled with fear and anger. the immediate emotions washed over what she felt before.
"shut up! im in no mood." powders eyes flicked, voices caught in her head.
"we didn't say anything." caitlyn spoke from the stairs, maeve watched with a familiar feeling, knowing how it felt to have different voices ringing in her head, sudden outbursts, things being told to you that wasn't true.
"i wasn't talking to you" she pointed the machine gun towards caitlyn once again. vi stepped forward, "powder, it's okay."
"vi.. shes tripping out." maeve said quietly, "seriously, don't antagonise her." powders eyes flicked towards maeve, "i know, powder." she reassured the girl, but instead of it calming the girl down, it seemed to have angered her even more.
"stop calling me that. it's jinx now. powder fell down a well." jinx spoke, mae felt her heart snap, hearing the downfall of her little sister figure.
"you're not a jinx. god, i never should have—" vi stepped forward, her hands still out infront of her to try and calm her down in a way. but nothing would've worked. "shut up, vi!" maeve rolled her eyes.
"stop talking to me like i'm a child! was that why you came? for this stupid stone?" jinx spoke up, a chuckle falling from her lips.
maeves eyes averted to the small blue glowing ball on the ground by jinx's feet. she twisted her eyebrows with confusion.
"no, we don't even know what that is, i..." vi's words were now even more cautious then before, jinx stepped forward, the machine gun now faced at vi.
"powder. i know how it feels okay? i know what its like having voices ring around your head, like you can't ever escape them." maeve spoke, her voice loud.
she watched jinx's face falter for a moment, looking down at the ground, her machine gun slowly slipping from vi's face.
vi on the other hand turned her head towards maeve, her eyes filled with sorrow as she looked at the girl whos eyes were fixated on trying to calm the younger one.
and just as it seemed to work, jinx's eyes filled with anger again, like the voices were telling her more and more. the machine gun was once again at vi's face.
maeve let out a small sigh, "you're a class act, sister. sister, thought i missed her. bet you wouldn't miss her." jinx said her rhyme, the last sentence focused at the gun as she pressed down on the trigger.
the barrels started to turn, vi immediately shoved it away with the back of her hand, "powder! im— we're here for you. only you."
her gaze flicked between maeve and jinx quickly, "you can fire that thing if you want, but we're not going anywhere. i'm not going to abandon you again."
jinx stepped back with heavy breathes, listening to vi's words, vi reached for her shoulder, her finger tips gliding against jinx's smooth skin.
"everyone, shut up. i need to think." jinx held her head, her eyes widened and shutting close repeatedly.
she's not going to forgive you. she hates you, maeve. she always will. dying on her was a low move.
"i never fucking died. i never abandoned her." maeve spoke to herself as she eyes moved down to her feet. caitlyn stared at her, anger still behind her eyes, but confusion rushed over and mixed with it as she stared between the two mental girls.
suddenly, jinx piped up again, this time she looked around the area, "do you hear that?" she frantically listened.
crows cawed and metal creaked, no one could hear anything until a neon green hue emerged from a large metal pipe in the distance.
firelights hovered on their boards, mask covered their faces as multiple of them pulled up to join the reunion. caitlyn immediately ducked as they flew over her.
jinx's machine gun suddenly started firing frantically. "caitlyn, i need your gun and i need it now." maeve said, her eyes stayed on the firelights.
"you know how to fight, i dont." she argued. "your seriously arguing? i can shoot them away while your getting your ass kicked if i get that god damn gun!"
caitlyn groaned, throwing the gun to the floor as it slid to maeves feet. they all circled around the platform, getting up close and personal to each of their faces.
vi threw the first punch, his head flinging sideways as he rode past. bullets shot frantically from jinx, as maeve held her gun and aimed with her eye.
shooting down one of the hover boards, jinx sending a punch to her face as she fell down, landing on the ground with a thud.
jinx aimed her smaller gun to the womans head, but before she could shoot, she noticed the firelight coming straight for her, shooting the crystal bomb that flew to her head.
as the three of them fought off the multiple that were targeting them. maeve watched closely at all of them, vi threw punches after punches, jinx shot each and every bullet in her machine while caitlyn chased after the glowing ball.
suddenly, a firelight came out from behind the crates. kicking caitlyn right in the jaw, she fell straight to the ground.
suddenly a firelight flew right over maeve, she ducked down with a reflex, quickly shooting the firelight that attacked caitlyn right in the arm before going to shoot towards whoever was trying to behead her.
smoke suddnely filled the area. the fog covering up maeves eyes. jinx and vi were now violently beating a fireflight for themselves.
and the one aiming for maeve came real up close, she threw the gun to the ground, the speed of the bullets not matching up to the speed of their hover boards.
her hand gripped his shirt, pulling him off as she threw a punch to his jaw. her knuckles immediately becoming bloody due to the force of the punch.
blood drooled from behind the mask, his jaw loosening as she threw another one. he went to swing, but she immediately dodged it, kneeing him in the stomach as he doubled over in pain.
her fists slammed into his back, causing him to fall even more. she went up close to him, their faces only inches apart as he weakly looked at the girl, who smiled innocently, waving her fingers before one last punch was sent to his jaw.
maeves eyes forwarded to vi who was in a panic, watching her little sister shoot and kill multiple of them. "vi!" maeve tried shouting but was unsuccessful as the firelight knocked her out.
her body fell to the ground with a thud, the smoke over taking her body.
and before she knew it, a loud ringing hit her ears as everything went black. the last thing she saw was the blurry vision of jinx shooting her machine.
