▌THE SMALL BUZZ OF THE TATTOO gun filled maeve's ears. the sting of pain causing her to close her eyes shut while the artist worked over the scar on her torso. the ink lines creating a design to cover the memories she had left behind.

after she had been left alone by the people who she cared for most, she ran back to the last drop. finding no one in sight, toxic air surrounding her as she felt like she was failing to breath.

ekko was gone, vi was gone, powder was gone. everyone had left her alone. alone to defend herself and survive. and thats exactly what she had done.

she grew to become stronger, smarter, and independent. she needed no one, she became something people feared, she never let anyone walk over her and she never bowed down to anyone.

after the tattoo was finished, she got up, pulling her black, tight fit, long sleeve back down her waist. letting it secure tightly around the waist band of the black cargo pants she wore.

with a nod, she left the shop. her hand tucked into her pockets as she walked through alley way and alley way.

when walking, she noticed the man behind her, his eyes were low and his walk slumped. he followed closer behind her.

"hey there, little girl." he whispered, finally catching up to himself. "what are you doing in a place like this all alone?" he asked. his hand landing on her shoulder as she shoved it off.

"what are you doing in a place like this." she rolled her eyes. "just helping each and everyone get to safety." he winked.

"safety my ass." she scoffed. continuing to walk through, not panicking whatsoever about the man who had clear intentions.

multiple homeless shimmer addicts were stuck to the floor, old and dusty cloaks covering them from the cloudy sun that shown down on zaun.

she looked back and noticed the man staring everywhere but her head. which caused her to stop in her tracks, slowly turning around on her heels to face him.

the girl slowly started to step forward, "what do you want, man." her face hardened.

he stayed silent, a smirk on his face as he also started to step closer. "i've had my eye on you." he simply said. his hand started to rise and land on her cheek.

the girl grabbed his wrist, "everyone does, now what makes you think your so special?" she shoved his hand away.

"cause i can do everything they can't" he winked, her hand slowly reached into her back pocket after hearing his reply, grabbing ahold of the sharp, silver blade and bringing it out.

she brought it up to his throat swiftly. "can you really?" she said with a sarcastic and innocent tone. "how 'bout prove it to someone who isn't 20 years younger then you, yeah?" she nodded, pushing the knife closer to his throat.

"fiesty, i love it." he seemed fearless, her eyes finally focused on what made him so confident, the shimmer sparkled in his eyes as her face faltered for a second.

with a groan, she slid the knife across his throat, blood drooling from his neck as he dropped to the ground. "jesus." she screwed her face up.

wiping the extra blood off the knife against her leg before shoving it back into her pocket. she continued her way down the alley way, finally meeting the main street where everything seemed to become more and more clear everyday.

the air becoming more and more toxic as you breathed. though, maeve never cared for it, being used to it all. the air not effecting her in any way due to growing up with nothing but it.

the streets were different these days, sure everyone were still the same people, but something had always been off after the last few years.

her feet treaded down the concrete stairs, leading into a dark alley way. a door was planted just infront of her.

her fist knocked on the wooden door, the sound of metal sliding across the peep hole as a guard stared through it, noticing the brunette girl standing with a stone cold face.

he opened each one of the locks, opening the door for the girl too walk into. it opened to a large hallway, multiple different rooms scattered along the wall as a dark purple hue lit up the area.

she walked in swiftly, her hips swinging as she looked into each of the rooms. each one was occupied, different men and women playing around, nothing she hadn't seen before.

"salum." she nodded as she walked by the room, "hey, maeve." he smiled, holding his pipe in his hand as he lit it up. "any new customers?" she asked.

"there were two girls walking around, not sure what it was about. one had dark blue hair while the other girl had red. thats pretty much all i remember." he explained. she shrugged her shoulders.

"alright." she nodded, "thanks." she started to walk forward, back down the hallway to meet with the boss before stopping herself once again.

she looked over her shoulder, a girl walking out of the brothel caught her eye. her eyes then widened, the red haired girl. she looked too familiar, something was off about her.

her hood sat over her head as her hands were shoved in the pockets of her jacket. tattoos covered on of her arms, as she walked with her head low.

without warning, maeve's feet started moving, following the suspicious girl to wherever she was going.

the girl went down each street, shoving past people without a single look, obviously determined to get wherever she had to go. maeve's mind raced, second guessing everything.

it can't be her, shes dead. shes gone. her brain repeated it over and over and over again. she still kept her distance, but something was telling her to just go up to her.

but she couldn't. she wouldn't be able to handle it if it was the pink haired girl she once loved years ago.

they ended up stopping near a small area where people sat around playing poker. cards being thrown around as an older girl kept celebrating her luck with large smirks.

the girl looked familiar, though she didn't have a good view since the fact she had to keep her distance.

suddenly the red haired girl ran up to her, slamming her knee into the womans face as she let out a large grunt.

the woman slammed down onto the ground with a rough thud. the red haired girls hood fell off of her head, a tattoo revealing on her neck.

the two boys she had just been playing poker with ran off in a hurry, nudging the girls shoulder as they practically yelped like little girls.

the woman murmured something as she rubbed her jaw. thats when the two of them started to fight, the red haired girl easily starting to win as she slammed her face into the concrete wall.

and thats when maeve saw who it was. "vi?" she whispered to herself, her heart dropping to her stomach as she stepped backwards.

this cannot be happening. how is it possible?

her thoughts raced as the two began to fight again. this time she got up closer, noticing the woman as the one she saw years ago during their battle.

sevika.

she revealed the large metal arm that sat on her shoulder, the neon purple bringing flashbacks behind the girls eyes. their fight became more and more worse.

vi dropped the sleeveless vest onto the ground, revealing her arms that grew alot of muscle over the years. tattoos covered everywhere, and honestly, she just looked alot different.

vi had been slammed to the wall as sevika had head butted her and punched her in the gut. vi continued dodging each and every punch that was made her way. starting to beat the woman infront of her.

maeve watched some more as sevika was punched to the ground, her eyes then starting to glow a neon purple as she lifted herself up, shimmer now flowing through her veins.

vi tried running to miss the keg that was being thrown her way, until sevika ran up to her and pinned her to the wall by her throat.

maeve watched it happen. her protective instincts quickly followed as she started moving, her fists clenched, her feet moved faster and faster as she ran up to sevika, grabbing a fist full of hair and slamming her head into the wall.

her grip loosened on vi's throat. vi groaned as she finally slipped through the womans grip, suddenly, maeve punched sevika in her lower stomach, causing her to double over.

sevika grabbed ahold of maeves arm, swinging her into the air and slamming her into a wooden box. the sound of it crunching underneath her body weight.

"jesus christ, woman." she groaned, closing her eyes out of pain. she then dragged her by the throat, starting to do the same thing she had just done with vi.

vi came up behind her, banging her fists into her back as she let go of maeve, grabbing ahold of her waist and flinging her into the wall.

the two younger girls tripped into the wall, the two of them out of breath as they watched sevika struggle to get up. vi then waved her hand, signalling for sevika to get up and keep fighting.

sevika grew dizzy as she continued taking the punches, each one she swung missing by far. vi kneed her in the face, causing her to go flying as her fists continued lingering infront of her face.

her breath was heavy. sevika used all of her strength to get up once again, but before she could, maeve ran, jumping up and using her feet to kick sevika in the face.

the force causing her to bust through the loose bricks, flying into the next room. maeve's face was stone cold as she stared back at vi.

vi's eyes widened at the sight of the girl. noticing everything was different about her, but before either of them could do or say anything, vi rushed past.

slamming her foot onto sevikas chest, pinning her down. "where's my sister? where's he keeping her?" she said angrily. maeve continued sitting in discrete shock, listening to vi's voice after seven years.

sevika took a heavy breath, "keeping her? you mean jinx?" vi's face faltered. "she works for him." sevika finished her sentence.

vi gasped loudly, her breaths becoming heavier and heavier. her grip against her neck loosening, then, sevikas metal hand dug into vi's stomach.

she leant into the red haired girls ear, "she's like his daughter." she said shoving her off of her.

sevika tightly gripped on vi's face as she walked over. "ill give her your regards." she said cockily, a smirk on her face. suddenly a bullet ran through the arm.

maeve held it with confidence, smoke running from behind the barrel. "or you could fuck yourself." she winked, watching the compartment filled with shimmer spill out.

sevika groaned as she started running, maeve fired the pistol more and more with not hesitation, watching the bullets fly off of the metal and instead hit the walls.

maeve then walked closer, her eyes fixated on the girl that sat weakly on the ground, her hand resting on her side as she breathed heavily.

vi's eyebrows furrowed "why'd you let her go?" she asked weakly.

"yeah, nice seein' you too violet. your welcome." she winked, her face staying stone cold as she started to move on her feet, away from the two girls.

"is that it?" vi suddenly shouted. a small huff of air leaving maeve's mouth as she closed her eyes, as if preparing for compact.

"i saved you when i never thought i'd see your face again. so yes, that is it." maeve explained, her back now faced towards the girl as she spun on her heels, prepared to walk away.

"good shot. better than i remembered" vi spoke up. maeves face stayed cold as she stood in place, taking in the familiar sound of her voice. "perfect shot."

vi chuckled again. "you gonna help me out, princess?"

her free hand lifted into the air. sympathy washed over maeve, her eyes widening as she heard the familiar nickname fall from vi's mouth.

with a sigh, she walked over, grabbing ahold of her hand and slinging it over her shoulder, doing her best to hold the girl up by her waist. the same way she did.

"don't call me that." maeve said simply as they started walking, "but your so sweet, pretty. like a princess." she smirked, limping underneath maeve's hold.

"maybe years ago, vi." she said simply and quietly, the two of them starting to walk. "you'll always be the same to me."

maeve's face dropped, something inside her missed vi more then anything in the world, but something else let the reminder of betrayal and fear overtake it.

yet she still loved the red haired girl more then anything.
