HIS HANDS CLOSED TIGHTLY on his most despised weapon, the bow. The hooded shadow shifted a little as he silently fitted an arrow to the bow string.

He knew he was going to miss.

Even now, after fifty-three years since the boy left earth, he didn't have the ability for archery.

At seventy-two earth years, age hadn't weathered him, not one bit. He still surprisingly looked like his eighteen-year-old self.

At first, the assassin didn't know how it worked. And in the end, the reason had to be that since he escaped Gaia the Fates had no control over his life anymore. Death had no power, time left no mark.

He was immortal, quite a curse and a blessing.

However, his appearance wasn't important now.

His objective remained clear: the assassination of Lord Gis. Gis had surpassed at least half the number the boy killed โ€“ quite an impressive feat, considering the assassin's own murder count and the fact he got newly appointed as king around a week ago.

Gis sold children, broke plenty of cosmic Laws (definitely not like this guy), and killed anyone who dared to oppose him. Rumors were that he ended his own mother, the leader of Selet.

And there he stood, a figure that could only be compared to a baby of some distorted creature and a mole rat. His face was squashed, his eyes bloodshot.

Gis didn't deserve a quick death. The boy wanted to give him the most agonizing death imaginable, but he was heavily armed.

And not that it mattered, but hand-to-hand combat was always the worst-case scenario and the last thing he wanted was to capture the attention of the Chaos Army.

Chaos Army...

He sighed in annoyance. Thinking about them made his head hurt. They were like pesky little flies, if you couldn't kill pesky little flies.

He readied his bow and... thwack. He watched as the arrow sailed across the room and landed on Gis' painting above the throne.

He missed. No surprise there.

Gis was screaming like a baby and the guards were a mess. The boy smiled to himself. Maybe the arrow wasn't such a bad idea after all.

He leaped down from the hanging wooden beams and instantly, all the guards converged into a protective circle around their king.

Well, so much for trying to avoid hand-to-hand combat.

His face couldn't be seen by his attackers as it was concealed by a hood. His voice was way too cheery when he spoke in the language of Selet. "Hi," he waved. "Quite a funny story, you see. I was walking around Selet, planning on visiting your mother. Then I heard she died and my least favorite son of hers had taken her place."

Gis growled. "You."

"Me," said the assassin, his smile vanishing. "You killed her, didn't you?"

"How dare youโ€“" he tried to snap.

"No," he interrupted sharply. "How dare you? Admit you killed your own mother and perhaps I'll consider granting you a fast death."

Gis turned a deep shade of purple, and his guards exchanged nervous glances, uncertain of what to do.

"Kill him."

Wrong move. At first, the guards hesitated, a natural response considering the reputation of the mercenary before them. No one, to anyone's knowledge, had defeated him in combat since his departure from Earth.

Well, except for Fraz and Zye. Especially Zye. But those two were exceptions, and no one knew those two could beat him anyways.

The assassin drew his own sword, crafted from a rare stone found on a dying planet. Fraz and Zye had gifted it to him before their parting.

The boy knew the guards had no chance of beating him, unless the Chaos Army were to arrive, which would just suck.

Guard One made the choice to lunge at the mercenary first, the most foolish mistake a general could make. The material of the assassin's sword, had various effects on different species.ย

For Seletians, it was quite poisonous.ย

One screamed and he was down.

Guards Two and Three came next but managed to collide with each other as he sidestepped. Idiots, the boy thought.

Four, Five, and Six were incredibly coordinated, but Five got too arrogant and aimed for his head. The assassin twisted his arm, causing him to shriek in pain. Thus, leaving Four and Six, who didn't do so well with Five down.

Seven wasn't so lucky, tripping on a fainted Three as he rushed to fight. Eight ran, which was most likely the smartest thing the boy assassin had seen all day. And, Nine was paralyzed, so he got gently bonked on the head.

The look on Gis' face must have been priceless.

He was speechless.

The mercenary walked to his throne. He didn't deserve it. He wasn't worthy.

Gis knelt and whispered desperately, "Please, anything you want, I'll give it to you. Just spare me."

"Pathetic," the assassin remarked, his voice dripping with disdain. He bent down. "What happened to Aela?"

Gis gasped. "Please! I didn't do it. He made me."

Furrowing their brows, the assassin pressed, "Who made you do it?"

Gis was breathing heavily. "Spare me."

No way in Tartarus. "Tell me now, or you'll regret ever living," he whispered, grabbing his tunic.

Gis was paralyzed by fear, but just as the moment intensified, the throne room doors burst open, and he let out a sigh of relief.

Chaos Army.

The mercenary groaned. Of all times.

"Drop your weapon. Put your hands in the air. Don't move," said an incredibly familiar voice. First-in-command of the Chaos Army. Alpha.

There was not one person in the galaxy that did not know about the famous (maybe infamous) Chaos Army, the "police" of the galaxy. Three guys and three girls: Alpha, Guardian, Solan, Firestone, Moonstone, and Avenger.

Who even came up with those horrible codenames?

They were in a way like the boy, but they arrested the lawbreakers, while he either killed them or left to give them a second chance. And as far as the assassin knew, he was their biggest challenge. They had been trying to catch him for about fifty years now.

They sucked at their job, but the boy couldn't get rid of them as he couldn't kill them either.

Why?

They didn't do anything wrong, except to go against him and they were exceptionally skilled in combat. They could even beat him if they had the stamina. It would be a waste if he killed them. Who knows how long they've been training.

"Well," the assassin said, slowly turning around, smiling, "if it isn't the Chaos Army. Do I drop my weapon or put my hands in the air or do I not move? Pick one."

No one answered.

They had him surrounded with their hoods up, covering their face like him. All in heavy, black coats with a different colored belt different for each individual. In the middle of that belt was a symbol. It was how others could tell them apart.

There was silence.

"It is rude," the boy told them, breaking the silence, "to talk behind someone's back. Or in your case, talk in front of me, using your minds."

Guardian, the one with angel wings as her symbol, spoke. She was holding a bow. "Sorry, Chalastis," she said, sounding like she was grinning. "Telepathy is one of our advantages. We can't help it."

"What brings you guys here?"

"Absolutely none of thy business," said the one with a star engraved on her waistband. Solan, he though. "How 'bout thou?"

Chalastis laughed. The boy always thought Solan was one of the first soldiers in the Chaos Army because of her Earthly grammar. "I was here first and if you don't mind, I would like you to leave."

"Please," Gis murmured from behind him. Who made him kill Aela?

"Nah," said Avenger. His mark was an eye. Chalastis found that the most interesting.

He drew his sword. "I'm guessing you need him," the boy jerked his head towards Gis, "and how disappointed would Chaos be if he died?" Chalastis was bluffing. He needed him too. He wasn't going to kill him. Yet.

They glanced at each other.

Chalastis pointed his weapon to Gis' throat. "What would Chaos say?" he repeated.

"Fine." Alpha put his hands up. "We need him, okay? He's essential in our investigation."

Chalastis hummed. "Dear Chaos Army, I have no interest in this investigation of yours. But for the first time," he cocked his head, "I have something you need. Soโ€“"

Swish. Dart gun.ย

Firestone, whose emblem was fire, shot Gis in the foot. The leader of the Seletians screamed.

"Don't worry," said Moonstone (her mark was just as obvious as Firestone's, go figure). She had a sweet voice. "It's poisonous and we have the antidote. We just want to know something."

Gis was gasping. "I-I."

"Who ordered you to kill Queen Aela?" said Avenger.

They knew too? Well, they were a group. They had the advantage.

"Tell us," Moonstone demanded. He knew that power as he could hear it from afar. It was charmspeak and while fortunately, it did not work on him, he still feared Moonstone the most.

He didn't know any species in the galaxy with that power. Who in Tartarus were they?

Gis gasped with pain. "Please. I d-don't know. I-I couldn't see him. He was wearing a m-mask. He j-just said to. I n-need the a-antiโ€“"

Solan threw a knife. It landed in his stomach. None of the soldiers flinched.

This is why he couldn't kill them. With every time they met, Chalastis somehow found himself liking them more and more.

Chalastis bent down towards Gis' body and patted his cheek. "Alone," he choked, his mouth bubbling with blood. "N-no one f-for you. I-identity."

He knew exactly what he meant. Chalastis was going to die alone with no one with him and no one would care because he didn't tell anyone who he was. Those were some last words.

It hit the right spot, though. His heart hurt.

"That was a dead lead," Alpha crossed his arms, interrupting his thoughts. "But we gotta go guys, we'll be late before Chaos figures what we're up to again."

Firestone waved at him. "Next time, Chalastis."

He was confused. "What? Aren't you guys going to arrest me or at least, try to?"

They glanced at each other. Guardian was the one who spoke. "Nah, I'm too tired. See you soon, Chalastis!" she chirped.

Moonstone laughed. "Yeah, we'll pretend we didn't see you."

"Do not worry," Solan said. "Chaos will not know."

And then in a flash, they were gone.ย
