Chapter 07. Where She Makes An Acquaintance...

Althea thought about what the God had told her and decided to think later about why she was here. For now, she had two end goals..

1. To save Jaslene
2. And, of course, to save herself

The time to start the plot was pretty near and there was no time to waste if she wanted to live. Datu had already summoned her to go for surveying War grounds and she couldn't refuse. So, she had decided to ask for the other 'Moon Staff' user. Maybe, that person will be able to change things in her life this time.

"Althea! There's a good news..." Althea heard Analyn say as she came rushing in her room. She hid the notes inside her pillow before Analyn could reach her.

"Did you succeed in finding him?" They had talked about finding the user and Analyn had assured her she'd help.

"Yes. His name is Alab. Alab Habalo. He's from the Maharlika class and we've already convinced him to meet today. That's why I decided to come here and escort you." Analyn seemed excited.

"Very well. Let me get ready and we should leave immediately." Althea was somewhat excited to meet him as he could be her future savior.

"So, you're saying that a Tikbalang would already be sitting there, ready to trap you, if you go there?" Alab asked, sounding a little confused.

"That's exactly what I'm saying." Althea didn't know how to talk about things and convince him about changing her future so, she chose the best way possible. She asked Analyn to leave them alone for the discussion, to which Analyn happily agreed as she thought they'd discuss things related to healing magic. Althea showed him the rough summary about what she had written and explained her origins.

"Aren't you afraid that I'd think you're an stupid person living in hallucinations?" Alab asked.

"Do you think I am?" Althea looked a little disappointed.

"Nah... I think you do have a point. And even if you don't have any proof, this doesn't look like a kid's story. The term, the monsters, the characters, all seem real..." He looked at the pages in front of him.

"So? Do you think we will be able to change things this time?" She asked, a little afraid to know the answer

"Of course we will. I'll ask my dear friend to help us with this, and we would change your destiny. As a fellow 'Moon Staff' user and the owner of White healing tree, I swear on my name that I'd protect things from going in vain." Alab confidently replied.

His reply was reassuring and thus, they departed to the War grounds the very next day, with Royal guards following them.

"I have asked my friend to come to the war ground too. He knows how to deal with monsters better than you and me. Don't worry." Alab reassured her.

"There's another thing I'm worried about. How do you think the monster appeared there? I mean the war grounds are so clear and he's supposed to live in forests." Althea expressed her concerns.

"You're right about that. Tikbalang is a folkloric demon and as such many regional tales speak of him in differing ways but he is usually seen as troublesome, if not downright malevolent, at his most harmless he enjoys hiding in remote areas and making travelers become lost via casting tricks and spells on them. They aren't even found that easily nowadays. Besides, they are generally associated with dark, sparsely populated, foliage-overgrown areas, with legends variously identifying their abode as being beneath bridges, in Bamboo or Banana groves, and atop Kalumpang or Balite trees. It's not even a question how they got there. Obviously, someone deliberately, left one there. But why? To harm original Althea?" Alab looked confused himself on the question.

"And that's not it. The other demon too. The war was already over. If any of it was left, why wasn't it seen beforehand?"

"The Manananggal? That thing isn't called "self-segmenter" for no reason. It's a Aswang or evil spirit that detaches her torso from her lower half and then takes flight during the night to eat infants. This creature's name was derived from the word, "tanggal," which means "to separate" because of the manananggal's ability to separate itself from its lower body. The severed lower torso, which is left standing, is the more vulnerable of the two halves. I don't understand if it did come there, how did it leave? Finding the lower half isn't that hard though..." Alab explained.

"There are way too many unanswered questions. Don't you think?" Althea asked nonchalantly.

"And there's another thing that's weird... This girl, Chesa, how did she find the exact same Manananggal? If there was one such demon, there has to be others somewhere there... Also, not only did the whole Unit didn't get hold of any monster but, that girl alone got that? And also the exact same? And if that wasn't enough, she single handedly killed it too? How..." Alab seemed deep in thought.

"If it helps, I remember her facial features mentioned in that novel... Will it help finding her? And, even if we do get to know who she is, what are the chances she'll tell who she is..." Althea hesitated.

"Was there any dialogues or anything else from her character?" Alab pressed.

"None. In fact, she doesn't utter a single word in the whole book... At least, not till I have read it..." Althea tried remembering but, in vain. Honestly, she didn't pay any heed to Chesa as a character. All her focus and attention was directed to Althea Dalisay, only her.

"Do you remember anything?"

"Her facial features and magic type. She was a wind magic user with dark coco coloured hair and greenish blue eyes. Her character had almost no significance when talking about dialogues but, she did a major thing in the plot." Althea narrated her part of knowledge.

"Our very first mission is to find her then..."

"Ohh... I remember her full name was written there in the character introduction. It was Chesa Abalos..." Althea narrated and Alab stopped for a moment.

"Now, this sounds intriguing..." He paused."
