Chapter 8. Where Ace Learns Her Name Is Addilyn

Location :- Diabo (Read as Devil In English. Originally a Portuguese word. Addilyn Fleur's Third Restaurant)

Ace's POV :-

"Are you sure, you were invited?" I ask Zion for the hundredth time.

So, Zion asked me to accompany him for the restaurant opening party where Reese had invited him. I came in the hope to see the structure of the new restaurant, and the girl who owned it. Her ideas regarding the arrangements of Duivel, were quite fascinating. But, Zion seems to have lost his entrance pass/ invitation card and we are still in the parking lot, trying to figure out what to do next.

"Obviously I am invited. Why would you think I took so much time to dress myself up!"

"Because I don't want to embarrass myself in front of the security. I will always be thankful to God that I asked you to take out the invitation card beforehand, rather than doing it in front of the security."

"See, I am 100% sure that I kept it in my inside pocket. I don't know where it is now..." I kind of felt bad for him. He sure has taken some time to groom himself for this opening ceremony.

And when I say, 'groom himself' I mean, he took the liberty to drag me to shopping for himself. And, at the end, he got himself custom designed black suit, which is oddly familiar with his rest of the business attires.

My day and energy was wasted for nothing, to be precise.

Don't even get me started on his looks. He was wearing a white shirt with blue buttons inside this suit of his, with obviously two buttons undone. He thinks this looks classy... Seriously??

"Zion?"

Reese's voice broke our, or I should say, Zion's search for the invitation.

"Thank God you are here. He has lost his invitation card." I said in relief while glaring Zion, which he ignored as usual.

"You lost it? Like really lost it?" Her question was directed at Zion.

Under Reese's judgemental eyes, Zion kind of looked guilty, which he never does in my case. I just rolled my eyes at him.

"I swear I kept it with me." Zion looked a little afraid of Reese. God only knows why... Reese is just so easy to go with.

"It's completely okay. I am sorry on his behalf Ace. I didn't think he will invite you, and keep you waiting in the parking." Reese turned to me with an apologising look. I muttered an 'it's okay' to her.

"What are you doing here by the way?" Zion asked her as she started leading our way out to the party.

"I came looking for my phone, which happened to be in my car. I was just returning when I saw you two. I am sorry once again Ace. I should have sent you an invitation card when Zion told me that you were coming. I completely forgot that I was talking to Zion." Reese spoke, while we reached the gates.

Reese was looking extraordinary and, dare I say different than everyone else present there. With her bubblegum pink, strapless lace tea length dress, which has flowers printed all over them, she looked completely different than the rest who were dressed in pretty much white or red. Some went with the universal black, as usual.

The building, this time was three to four storey high with it's one side made of glass and the other was having wooden and block finish. There was a small cafe at the bottom of the building as well. There was a purple neon sign with water bubbles in its background with some texts highlighted with lights of different colors. The sign read "Diabo".

One thing I have noticed, all her restaurant had some kind of glass exterior. And a green scenario around the building, which made it quite relaxing to be there.

The interior was less disorganized than the last one with everything in purple and neon. Lights, used in this restaurant were more organized and of almost the same dangling type everywhere. The seats were a mixture of purple and some rainbow shades, which let them stand out from the rest. The wall on the bar side was specifically beautiful with red coloured trees painted beautifully.

Neon sign boards were hanging after every turn with some quote on them. I waited to read some of them.

The quote do feel gloomy but, seeing it here brightens up the corner. I wonder if this is what she thinks about life...

Sometimes, we are so mixed about our dreams that we don't see the reality and this quote gave me the exact feeling. The term 'Oneirophrenia' describes a state where a person becomes confused about the distinction between reality and dream as if he or she were living in a dream state. The Oxford Dictionary of Psychology defines oneirophrenia a 'dreamlike state of consciousness. Nonetheless, it's still a dream. Dreams can be as vivid as reality sometimes...

Things like words and promises are hollow if the person uttering them does not intend to keep them. And a hollow victory is not very satisfying, as it means that you have reached your goal, but lost something more important along the way. And this quote made me feel the same way. I wonder what made her outlook about life like this.

Looks like, I will be coming here tomorrow morning.

"Come, I will take you to Addilyn." Reese led us to the roof of the restaurant where Addilyn, the restaurant owner, and the girl who threw Rowena out stood, with her hands supporting the railings.

She was in a charcoal grey knee-length dress which matched with my shirt.  Why am I looking for a match ? Something is definitely wrong here. Suddenly, I started to feel anxious, like I wanted to see and know her but, I was scared to do so. I don't even know why I am feeling like this... This is so unreal.

"Lynn! See Zion is here with Ace." Reese spoke a louder to gain her attention. And in a flash, she turned herself to face us. I know it would sound cliche, but, suddenly strong winds started flowing throwing her brown hair in the right direction. I finally saw her face, and what I saw, I couldn't believe.

Sometimes we meet a person, and it can feel like we’ve known them forever. And I felt the same way for her. Her eyes were purple or violet... Those were something you could look forward to seeing everyday, everytime and everywhere. Everything about her spoke of beauty. But, I didn't see anything else beside her eyes. The world around me felt non existent.

"It's good to meet you." Her voice made me come out of my trance.

"Same." I spoke. Looks like nobody noticed my spacing out.

She took her hands forward for a handshake and I breifly took it.

There are times when you might have met someone and felt a jolt of electricity and instant attraction run through your body. These chemical impulses might be the result of several unique interpersonal factors that come together to make you feel like you’ve met someone you were meant to meet.

Not only that, but when we feel that instant attraction, our brains start pumping a serotonin and dopamine cocktail that encourages continued contact with that person. And I was feeling the same, right now.

We meet many people everyday and some of them feel so related to us, that we feel we have known them forever. While some of these firefly people may evolve into close or even intimate friends for the long haul of life, the value of the attraction isn’t diminished by its impermanence. These meetings offer us connection and companionship in places in which these may not be found, if not for the synchronistic development of the firefly relationships.

The moment I closely looked at my thoughts about Addilyn Fleur, I knew I was not right in my mind. Her presence gave me jitters. Her eyes made me lost. Her voice made me forget mine. And, I, Ace Vincent was definitely not going to stop it.
