1 - Warmth
Hange sat chewing on her pencil in the dead of night, with her small desk lamp perched beside her switched on. She was writing poems, something she had grown rather fond of ever since the loss of her parents. The innocent eight-year-old, with no retreat from the cruelty of the world, took comfort in her short poems (which were far from making sense to any other person than herself). Setting her pencil down, she read over her work, thick framed glasses slipping on the bridge of her nose.
Alien
He's a stranger,
Is he a danger?
I like his face,
It's absolutely ace!
He looks at me with a tilted head,
Like he'd rather be in bed,
And as the little green boy boards his ship,
I begin to bite my lip,
Goodbye little spaceman - I'll see you soon,
Maybe I'll watch you soar past the moon.
She giggled at her own writing, then slipped the sheet of paper into her diary. Carefully, she placed her small diary in a shoe box, then put it in its respective hiding place under her bed. She climbed onto her creaky metal bed and felt around for her handmade rag doll, Timmy, under her pillow. She held him close to her chest as she wrapped herself up in the thin bed sheets, shivering from the frosty winter that creaked through the rickety floorboards.
Just as she was about to drift asleep, the door opened and the silhouette of a short boy was at the door.
"L-levi? Is that you?" she whisper-shouted.
He nodded.
"Is it the nightmare again?" she asked, in her normal voice this time.
He nodded once more, to which she sighed tiredly.
"You better come in then. It's okay, your space is always free. Besides, it's warmer when you're lying next to me," she said with a friendly grin.
Levi rubbed his eyes, then climbed in next to Hange. He had a habit of snuggling next to Hange - she was incredibly cuddly, in his defence. Ever since the death of his parents, he'd have nightmares more often than not. As you'd imagine, for a small eight-year-old to witness his parents death before his eyes, it was traumatic to a high degree. But he had Hange's warmth at this moment, and that was enough to help him forget his awful nightmare for now. He glanced up at her face - her eyes were shut.
"Hey four-eyes."
"Yeah?"
"You forgot to take off your glasses."
