My heels clack against the pavement as I hurry along the busy streets of Wyndon. I woke up before dawn broke this morning to get the first train over, however it wasn't enough time for me to get to the stadium without cutting it close. I still haven't turned over the lease papers that I signed over the weekend, meaning I can't start moving into my apartment until this afternoon.
My pace slows when I finally reach the glass doors of the rose shaped stadium. I check my appearance in the glass, my hair and makeup is still in tact mostly because I choose an elegant up do and natural looking makeup given the fact I knew this would happen. My white button up is tucked into a knee length black pencil skirt, however the first few buttons of my shirt are left open to make room for the silky black scarf I tied into a messy bow and pushed off to the right side of my neck to add some flare to the look. My glossy heels match my skirt and thankfully aren't scuffed or scratched from my hurried pace.
The leather case bag hanging off my shoulder holds the documents, contracts, and disclosures of my employment I was tasked to sign over the weekend. It also holds my three PokΓ©mon snugly as well as materials I may or may not need throughout the day. I adjust the bag on my shoulder before pushing through the front door. A quick conversation with the receptionist I leave my employment files with her for Miss Oleana to pick up before moving on to find Leon.
However I found him wandering the courtyard of the stadium. "You're aware you have an interview to be at in ten minutes right?" I call, Leon turns sharply and his face lights up at the sight of me. "Sorry I got a bitβ" he starts, "Lost, I'm aware of your reputation. So from now on just stick close to me and don't wander off, I'd be more than happy to go where you want to go if it keeps you from getting lost and in turn being late to appointments." I explain as I take him by his hand and drag him to the interview location.
"Oh, okay." He mumbles, "A quick brief. The interview is mostly a promotional ad for the coming year's Gym Challenge. It's only been a few months since the last one ended, But I've been told this year's expectations are going to double and the preparations have already started," I continue. "How do you know all this? I wasn't aware the Chairman had plans let alone started them." Leon questions, "I did my research before applying to the job, my contacts have contacts here in Galar. Pro tip: if more than one person is in on something it can hardly be kept a secret. And let's face it, humans are fickle and easily swayed with the right motivation." I muse.
I let go of Leon's hand as a camera crew came into sight, "Now relax and be your Champion self." I whisper before easing myself to stand behind him just as the film crew notices us. Leon slips into character flawlessly, as the crew gets to work on the interview I handle the nitty gritty work such as disclosures, copyrights, publicity contracts. Leon is long done by the time I sign off the last contract. I look down at my clock to see it's already noon, and at noon Leon has to participate in the Foreign Trainer Exchange Program. I look over at Leon who takes a total of three steps before I rush over to grip him by his cape to keep him from wandering too far.
"Oh, sorry." He chuckles scratching his cheek, "It's fine, its going to take us some time before we can fall into routine and habits. Just try to follow my instructions okay?" I smile. Leon nods before looking off at a sandwich stand, four people already lined up and waiting. "Have you eaten today?" I question Leon nodded, "A bit this morning but it was quick because I had a training session today." Leon answers.
I look down at my watch and glare, "We need to get back to the gym, you have some matches lined up from the FTEP." I sigh out. Leon's face slumps before nodding, "Let's get going then!" He tries to smile. I take him by his arm and give him a look, "Right, I think it's better if you lead." He mumbles embarrassedly. I keep a hold on him and lead him through the streets to the gym. We're instantly swarmed by young foreign trainers. I give Leon five minutes to take pictures, give out league cards, and sign autographs before pushing him to the locker room.
"Get ready here, the ref will announce the match line ups in a few minutes. In the meantime I gotta go run an errand. Are you going to be okay here?" I question, Leon gives me a cheesy grin in nods. I sent him a small smile before leaving the locker room, I pass off the interview documents to the receptionist before running out to the streets. I traced my steps back and found the sandwich stand, which thankfully had less people in line. I order for the two of us and get Leon something filling to hold him through the rest of the day.
While I wait I pull out my black leather document binder, I flip through a few sheets before finding Leon's schedule. A frown forms on my face at the line up, he's slammed all day. The biggest time gap being thirty minutes, not counting the additional tabs reserved for traveling place to place. Surely they know you can't work people like this, maybe it's just a today thing. I remember having days like this, but I also remember days where I had been under the wrong company and had been nothing but a honeypot drained until I was dry. Unfortunately I don't have access to to Leon's schedule beyond the day of, let alone the references I need to look into taking care of the matter.
I promptly shut the leather binder as my order is called and quickly stuff it back into my bag before taking the two to go boxes into my arms. I hurry back to the gym stadium and find out Leon is already on the pitch. I check the line up and let out a sigh in relief when I see that after this match he has a two battle opening.
So I wait for him to come back, watching the match on the big screen, his PokΓ©mon all but smearing the poor soul who had the gall to face him. Leon's match ends swiftly, he strikes his signature pose and calls out his famous catch phrase before making his exit. I stand from my seat, food in hand waiting for him. Leon appears in the locker room all but drained, his face twisted with discomfort until his eyes land on me, shock manages to untwist his expression but it drops in slight shame of weak display.
I didn't say anything, only held out the box. Curiously Leon takes it, only to open it and practically drool over the contents. "Take your time, there's a two battle window for you to eat your fill. I apologize if there isn't something to your taste in it, I got something that should be able to hold you over until the dinner banquet with Chairman Rose tonight." I smile. Leon looks down at me, his eyes of Champion gold seem melted down and soft.
"You didn't have to." Leon spoke softly, "It may be my job to keep you in check Leon, but many fail to realize it's also my job to take care of you when you're unable to do it yourself. You can rely on me Leon, not because it's my job, but because I want you to know you can trust me." I smile. I giggle as Leon tilts his hat down to hide his blushing face, "Get eating, you may have time to eat it, but it's important that you're able to give yourself some time to digest. I heard it can be very unpleasant to use Dynamax after a full meal." I smile gently, guiding him to sit down on the bench. "Speaking from personal experience...It's true." Leon laughs before digging into his food.Β
