It wasn't even two days after Hop's episode did I get a call from the boy. The call pulls me away from a small team meeting, just a brief about the number of trainers who are ready to face Leon, but I could care less. However, I am thoroughly enraged when Hop fills me in on what happened today and what this Bebe kid tried to pull over. Not only did this kid have it out with both Gloria, Hop, and Sonia, but he knocked down a whole mural monument in Stow-On-Side which nearly crushed Sonia. Needless to say I am ready to be this kid's worst nightmare until I hear something worse, something far worse than I wouldn't ever hope or imagine. Hop telling me about something Sonia said when she had gone to one of his matches, the kid is alone, more alone than any kid his age should be.
Then he lets it out that the kid is under the influence of the Chairman, which is by far the worst thing that man has done thus far. No family, and then being tricked into being a pawn. That really made me snap, but I have to be calm, the kid is the first priority. So I called the one person I thought could help, Opal. During one of the meetings, Pre-Gym Challenge, it was mentioned that older Gym leaders should be looking for possible successors. Some of them seemed more open to the idea like Opal, but others like Melony seemed more reserved. That being said I feel like I've found Opal a perfect candidate, judging from the digital league card Hop sent me, the boy's style is already in tune with the fairy gym's signature style.
One quick call to Opal and she was on his case, so with that matter settled, I moved on to the next one. Much to Miss Oleana's displeasure she finds me once again barging through her office, "He's not here," She comments. I ignore her and throw open the doors only to find that, he is in fact, not here. So I turn sharply and march right up to her desk. "I expected better from you." I hiss, her eyes snap up to me, "I beg your pardon?" She quips.
"I said, I expected better from you. Dragging a child into this? A hurt child, into whatever this is? What the hell is wrong with you?" I sneer, planting my hands firmly on her desk. "I did what had to be done, The Chairmanβ" She starts, "TO HELL WITH THE CHAIRMAN!" I snap, "You are smarter than this! What the fuck does the fuckingβ" I stop mid rant as something clicks into place. I look down at her eyes glossed over and shielded like every other time I see them, but I've noticed something, it's always quick and fleeting but I catch it. Barely, but just enough to know it happens.
"My Arceus you love him," I breathe out, the shields in her eyes shatter, and they shatter like glass. "Of course I love him, he made me." She whispers, "He didn't make you. You made yourself, you made yourself for him. Then gave yourself to him, you gave so much of yourself to him that there's nothing left, not even for yourself." I scoff. I look down at Oleana, the stone cold woman now has her head bowed, in shame? Guilt? Embarrassment? I have no idea.
"You gave yourself to a man who will treat you as nothing more than an asset, and no matter how valuable you become, you will still be nothing more than that." I whisper, "Like you have any room to talk. You love Leon, you've given yourself to him, you are an asset to his career." She sneers. "I did, but not everything and he knows that. He accepts that, hell he probably expects that. Because while The Chairman expects you to give him everything Oleana, Leon only expects enough from me for him to have and to hold. To further my point, while I may be an asset to Leon's career, I am not an asset to Leon. And that, Oleana, is the difference between Rose and Leon." I explain sharply.
"Why is this a problem for you? What are you to possibly gain from this? Can't you just mind your own business?" She rasps, "The problem isn't for me Oleana, The problem is that you love that man so much you're willing to let him drag you through hell if it meant you could hold his hand on the way. And I know for a fact Oleana that you're smart, way too smart to let yourself be dragged down by this." I divulge.
"But if this bothers you so much, fine, just let me say this. The next time you see Chairman Rose ask him. Ask him if he loves you the same way you love him and if he gives you the answer you want, I'll leave you alone." I shrug, crossing my arms. "But if he doesn't, call me." I add, "Call me if you want to be better than this woman sitting in front me, because the woman I admired for so long wouldn't stand to be like this. I can help Oleana, I can help you become someone who doesn't need the want of a greedy man to feel like she's worth something." I finish before leaving the woman to her thoughts.
I leave Rose Tower completely drained, unwilling to deal with the slew of phone calls and messages Leon left me when I stormed past him at the gym. Instead I shoot him a text that I need to go home for the rest of the day and a small reminder to get lost before heading home. I was pretty much dead to the world until later that night when Leon came knocking on my door. Take out food in hand. Arceus I really love this man.
