"THIS SONG!" You cheered on, listening to 'You Belong With Me' by Taylor Swift playing on the car radio, "So many memories."

You started to sing and Jamed chuckled, wanting to watch you but had to pay attention to the road he was driving on. On top of that it was late evening and he had to be extra alert.

"If you can see I'm the one who understands you, been here all along so why can't you see?!" You sang, "You belong with me... You belong with me!"

He reached to change the radio station and you slapped his hand quickly. "Don't you dare James!" You threatened playfully and he rolled his eyes, "You know, I used to think about you when I'd hear this song."

He raised an eyebrow and smirked, "Oh really, love?" He leaned in towards you to steal a kiss but-

SCREECH!

"JAMES!" You yelled as the car was about to drive off the road. He quickly swerved the car back in plane then ran a hand through his hair. He looked at you and smiled nervously.

Eventually the car came to a halt at a split way and a time for James to make a decision of either left or right. You turned to look at him and found that he was a little confused about the road ahead.

You examined the two roads leading in completely different directions. They had a lack of signage, except the left road seemed to be more lit up.

"Let me check the satellite navigation-" You started to suggest but he intervened with his opinion.

"We don't need that, I know the way," He reassured, "Don't worry."

James turned the car towards the right road and you squinted your eyes at him. "Um, I think we should have gone the other way love," You commented and he shook his head.

"Nope, I've used this road before," He responded quickly but it didn't seem to restore some confidence back inside you.

The road stretched out for miles, with an aisle of trees on each side. The road rarely bent, it remained on the straight and narrow. You felt uncertain about the journey all of a sudden, a growing feeling that you wouldn't reach your destination in time.

You glanced at the time on the dashboard and raised your eyebrows. "Um..." You mumbled then raised your voice a little, "I don't think we're going to make it for the dinner reservation baby."

He held your hand tightly and took a deep breath, "Hmm, don't worry. We'll reach." He gave your hand a slight squeeze and you smiled nervously.

Today was your three year relationship anniversary and it was special for the both of you, other than it being an event. The two of you finally got some time to yourselves, being free from work commitments, and tonight's dinner was a way for both of you to reconnect and pretend like you're going on that first date once again.

"What are you going to order huh?" James asked, to fill in the silence. You squinted your eyes as you thought about the menu. The restaurant was one of yours and James' favourite.

"Maybe some seafood, or something Mexican?" You responded, "I don't know, at this point, I'll eat anything!"

You rested your head against the door window and slowly shut your eyes-

BEEP... BEEP... BEEP... BEEP...

Your eyes darted open as you heard a low alert sound come from somewhere inside the car. "What's that?" You questioned and you James started examining the car dashboard icons.

"I don't know, there's a warning signal," James replied then turned the car to park on the side of the road. He switched the ignition off then waited a moment before turning it on-

Nothing.

You sat up straight and glanced at James, who seemed a little flustered. He turned the key again but the car wouldn't start. He continued to try and you shook your head quickly.

"You're going to flood it, James!" You pointed out and he huffed, letting go of the car keys then quickly stepping out of the car. You sighed and watched him pace around outside, running his hands through his hair with frustration.

"F!@#!" You heard his muffled yell, making you furrow your eyebrows.

You got out of the car and walked over to him. He pointed to the right, front tire and scoffed. "It's flat," He said... flatly, making you sulk.

*****

You crossed your arms and stared at the blinking light next to the radio. You were completely zoned out, unable to really pull out of it.

You and James had been busy trying to find a way to get yourselves out of this mess. While he was contacting a pick-up truck or some sort of mechanic, you called a few of your friends for assistance.

One of your friends was at a party, another had been sleeping when you called. James' best friend was ready to pick both of you up but he lived forty-five minutes from where you think you are, and you didn't want to bother him for no reason. right now, he was your last resort.

"What did the mechanic say by the way?" you asked with annoyance at how pointless your night had turned into.

"Nothing," James shrugged his shoulders, "One didn't pick up and another went to some sort of voicemail. Eventually, I got through and they said that they would arrive in about an hour."

"Great," You sighed, "We're definitely going to miss the reservation." You turned to him sharply and slapped his arm, tears stinging your eyes a little. "If you didn't have to be a 'hero' and take the shortcut JAMES, we wouldn't be lost!" You shouted at him then looked at him grumpily.

He watched you with guilt and shame. "I'm sorry love, I just... I was sure that we were going the right way," James reacted. Your expressions didn't change. You took your phone out and opened up a navigation app.

"What are you doing?" He asked and you told him that you were going to figure out where the hell you-

"OH MY-JAMES!" You slapped his arm once again and he complained this time, "We're in Maidstone! It's an hour out from LONDON JAMES!"

He shook his head with disbelief then took the phone from you. He zoomed into the map then widened his eyes, making it clear to you that he realised that you were correct.

You frowned, feeling really emotional and sad about your evening. He turned to you with worry, "Hey, love... what's the matter?"

"I just... I wanted to have a special evening James, to celebrate three years," You said, "And n-now we're s-stuck here, in the middle of freaking nowhere!"

He reached out to caress your cheek softly, then place a strand of hair behind your ear. "[y/n/n], I'm so sorry, I really wanted this evening to be perfect and it turned out to be complete garbage."

He rubbed his forehead and you looked at him with pity. "It's all my fault, I should have listened to you when you said that it wasn't the right way," He confessed and thumped his fist onto the steering wheel, "I just... Wanted you to be happy tonight and I failed."

You turned in your seat and faced him. You held the side of his face softly and smiled softly, "Hey, James, don't talk like that. I-I was just joking earlier about you being a 'hero' and going the other way," You clarified, "At least we're together tonight, that's all that matters."

You kissed him slowly then planted another on his cheek. He smiled slightly then went back to a frown.

He started to search for something, looking through the armrest storage compartment then inside his pant pockets. You were scrolling through your phone notifications, texting a friend and updating her on what is going on with you.

"Umm [y/n]?" James mumbled and you looked at him. He had a hand held out for you and you raised an eyebrow. You switched your phone off and then held his hand softly.

He smiled, watching you with what seemed like awe. "This is not how I wanted the evening to go, and this is definitely not how I wanted to do this but..." He commented and took a deep breath.

Your heart started to thump faster. You couldn't anticipate what he was about to do.

"I'm exhausted honestly, I'm not one for cheesiness so I'll just say this: You're a special one [y/n] and you're my companion in every way, especially at night," He winked at you and you laughed as his implication.

"This is the only way I can keep you with me forever so... here," He put his other hand in front of you and opened his fist, revealing a small red coloured velvet box.

You covered your face with your hands and he chuckled. You knew exactly what that box meant.

"Do I really need to open it up?" He asked and you shook your head slowly, "So what do you say?"

"Do you really have to ask?" You teased and then pursed your lips together and you watched him with tears in your eyes, for the second time tonight, "Of course you can keep me forever."

He smiled widely and you hugged him tightly. You immediately kissed him passionately on the lips then stared deeply into his eyes.

You squinted your eyes and tilted your head. "Wait... Do you even have something in the box?" You questioned then grabbed the box from him, making him laugh. You opened it and gasped as a beautiful diamond ring, with intricate designs on it, sparkled back at you.

"Oh my lord James, you didn't-"

He kissed you once more, which forced you to stop talking. "I didn't have to, but I wanted to," He said then too the ring out slowly and slipped it onto your finger. You stared at it with excitement.

"James I love you," You blurted out, "I love you so much."

He smiled softly, "I love you too sweetheart."

"You know it's a one of a kind ring," He enlightened, "I got it customized just for you with the design and it's got an engraving on the inside."

You looked closely and noticed a date in Roman numerals, "It's our anniversary day!"

"It's now our engagement anniversary too."

You widened your eyes at an idea forming in your head, "We should get married on the same date!"

He chuckled, "Whatever you want, my love."

You kissed his cheek quickly then smiled widely. "Thank you, James. This is actually..." You said, "A perfect evening out."
