"So besides the world of film, what's happening in your life?" The interviewer asked and James smiled.
"Well my family's all the way at home in London right now, probably watching this as we speak," He said then waved at the camera, "Hi [y/n/n] and [y/s/n]!"
"Is it hard staying away for months without having them around?" He asked and James frowned.
"No doubt it's hard. For every actor I'm sure they feel sad about the fact that they won't get to see the people they hold so dearly to themself that often," James replied, "But then that also keeps one motivated to finish working soon so that you can go home."
You smiled softly then rubbed your hands. You did miss him a lot... especially nowadays since you have a short holiday period from work.
"[y/s/n], where are you sweetheart? Come see daddy on TV!" You called out and moments later spotted a young boy waddle into the room while holding cat plushie his his hands.
"Come on, daddy's here!" You held out your hand and he came running to you. You picked him up and placed him on your lap, then sat back comfortably on the couch.
"Dada, lookie!" He shouted out and you laughed.
"Baby he can't hear you. He's in another place," You told and he remained quiet, teaching his father talk on the large screen.
"So tell us about your kids, what has the McAvoy household have in store?"
"I've got one wee boy, [y/s/n], who just turned three a couple of weeks back. I flew over to surprise him for his birthday," James grinned, "It was the most funniest and cutest things ever. His face... I can never forget it. I messaged my wife when I pulled up in the driveway and she told [y/s/n] to open the door. He was busy drinking something and even though he was standing at the door his attention was glued to the TV and I think Paw Patrol was on. I ran quietly to him and sat on the ground, then I tapped his arm. He didn't look at me so I did it again and the moment he turned to me he almost fell down in surprise. He widened his eyes and looked at me like I was a ghost!"
You heard the audience laugh, which made you smile. You had watched this event from the kitchen, you had a clear view of the main door.
"I put an arm out to give him a hug but he ran inside to his mother yelling, 'Mummy there's a stranger in the house' in the classic way two year olds speak," James said and the interviewer watched him with surprise, "I was so excited by it all that I realised I forgot to pay the cabbie."
Another chorus of laughter ensued and James shook his head with a smile. "Well I got inside the house and followed my boy to the kitchen where I greeted my wife but then he started tugging on my trousers and pulling me away with pure anger. It was adorable," He continued, "In the end his mother successfully convinced him that it's actually me and not some stranger raiding his house making out with his mum."
James shrugged his shoulders and chuckled, "What can I say? I have an adventurous life!" James chuckled lightly and the audience cheered a bit.
"You know he's actually a very interesting little boy," James tapped his chin then smirked, "He's in this phase where he's completely indulged in being brutally and bluntly honest... which is still cute coming from a kid who resembles a penguin when he walks!"
The interviewer sat up with curiosity. "Could I tell you about it?" James asked and the interviewer gestured for him to do with all means, "Alright so it started off with just regular comments on everyday life like 'mummy this toy is bad' or 'daddy I don't like this cartoon it's horrible'. All that was alright, he was expressing his thoughts and we loved it. He even started criticising other people's cooking, which was a bit too... explicit."
"This is where the good old 'but' comes in, right?"
"Yeah, an enormous 'but',"James shook his head, "Then [y/s/n] started noticing what [y/n] and I would talk about in our own personal time."
He bit his lip and ran a hand through his hair nervously. "We went for this annual dinner with all our close friends and family. There were around fifty people and it was an amazing experience," James continued, "So around the middle of the party, [y/s/n] started to grow a little restless, much to his parents' horror."
James started laughing, "There was a conversation happening and in the middle he suddenly said 'Aunt Patricia, you should wear a wig. Your hair's a nest!'."
You heard everyone on the show gasp, you covered your mouth in surprise and your son started to giggle. You pokes his sides and glared at him teasingly.
"I am so sorry Aunt Patricia if you're watching this but..." James looked away from the camera and looked to the interviewer, "He might have heard that one from me?"
The interviewer laughed a little then covered his face, "Oh that's horrible! You have to be careful around him right?"
"Yes definitely, we've controlled what we say and have completely filtered the cartoons he watches. If [y/n] and I want to talk about something that if our son says out loud we'd regret, we just talk about it at night when he's asleep," James replied, "The thing is that [y/s/n] isn't disobedient or a troublesome child. He's such an angel, most of the time he doesn't know the meaning of what he's saying."
You hugged your son tightly and gave him a noisy kiss, that he rubbed away with his palm and laughed at.
"He's got dog ears and an elephant's memory, with the mind of a three year old... it's a horrible combination." James added and rubbed his forehead, "He's even sweared on a couple of occasions. One time we were playing this puzzle game with him and when he lost he yelled out 'son of a bitch'! Thankfully no outsider was present."
"Well your son is adorable and as long as he's a child his words will not be taken to heart," The interviewer said, "I hope you and your family are reunited again very soon."
"Thank you, I hope so to."
"His movie is out this weekend, tickets are selling fast. James McAvoy everyone!" He said and James stood up. He shook the interviewer's hand then waved at the audience.
You clapped your son's hands and bounced him on your knee. "Are you happy you saw daddy?" You asked.
"Yeah!" He responded excitedly, "When is daddy coming home?" You put your son down on the floor and pulled the his of toys closer to him.
"Very soon baby."
