Chapter 24

I was on the couch in Kira's house, sitting next to Stiles with my head on his shoulder. Kira, Noshiko, and Mr Yukimura were all talking privately in another room, leaving Stiles and I alone.

He didn't seem to want to be alone with me though. After we'd escaped the tunnels he'd been avoiding talking to me as much as possible, but never left my side. It was like he wanted to get away from me but at the same time wanted to make sure I was safe at all times.

Currently, Stiles was staring at the coffee table, his expression blank but tired. He seemed so tired. I wanted to help him, to comfort him in his loss of Allison, but I didn't know how to when he cringed away from my voice and acted like I wasn't even there half the time.

I cleared my throat, deciding to give it a try anyway as I lifted my head of his shoulder.

"Stiles?" I asked hesitantly.

Stiles shoulders stiffened, as if surprised by my voice, before he quickly looked away, clenching his fists in his lap.

"Stiles please," I said. "Why won't you look at me?"

Finally, Stiles head turned in my direction and I saw a trembling jaw, as if he was trying not to cry, and a sea of guilt in his eyes.

"I won't look at you because I don't have the right to," Stiles said firmly, his eyes falling down to his hands.

"What do you mean...?" I asked, trailing off in confusion.

Stiles' head snapped up and he looked me in the eyes, his expression one filled with pain and regret.

"I hurt you, Y/n," he said, his voice breaking. "I tied you up and kidnapped you and threatened you."

"It wasn't your fault," I said.

Stiles shook his head, looking down at his hands again.

"Everyone says it wasn't my fault, but it was. I was there, and I didn't do anything. I didn't stop it and I let him hurt you right in front of me, and the sickest part was I enjoyed it. I enjoyed seeing you scared and in pain. I enjoyed seeing you powerless against me, and I hate myself for it," Stiles confessed, his voice laced with self loathing.

"Stiles, you were being possessed! It wasn't you doing all those things to me, it was Void," I said, fighting to keep my voice calm.

I couldn't believe Stiles blamed himself for this. It was outrageous.

"You weren't in control of your body, and I'll never be able to understand how traumatising that was for you, but you have to know that it wasn't your fault," I said, emphasising each word. He needed to know that it wasn't his fault. He needed to stop blaming himself for Void's actions. "None if this is your fault. It's Void's, and I'll be damned if I let you feel all this guilt for him. You did nothing wrong Stiles."

I could see tears welling up in his eyes. He blamed himself for Void's actions towards me, and I realised that meant he also blamed himself for what Void did to everyone else. To one person in particular.

"And it's not your fault Allison died."

That was what broke him.

Stiles grabbed me and tugged me against him, enveloping me in a hug as he placed his head in the crook of his neck, tears falling down his face. I wrapped my arms around his waist, a few tears escaping my eyes as well.

We stayed like that for a while, sobbing and comforting each other, until we both calmed down. We pulled away just as Kira and her family walked back into the room. Our hands were intertwined as we sat on the couch next to each other, staring at Noshiko as she poured some tea.

"Here, it will calm you," Noshiko said, passing the tea to Stiles.

Stiles looked down at the tea, a frown appearing on his face as he assessed the liquid inside the cup.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Tea," Noshiko answered.

"What, like magic tea?"

Noshiko shook her head, a small smile on her face.

"No, chamomile tea. Drink it," she said.

A small smile spread across my face at the interaction and Stiles noticed, squeezing my hand.

"He's not safe here," Mr Yukimura said from where he was standing at the edge of the room.

"He's not safe anywhere," Noshiko replied evenly.

Kira, who had sat herself on the edge of the couch looked up at her mother hopefully.

"But Allison killed one of them. Doesn't that mean something? She killed one of them," she said.

"Is that even possible?" Mr Yukimura asked.

Noshiko looked at him for a second before shrugging.

"I'm not sure how," she said.

"But she did it," Kira said. "She killed one of them."

"Yeah, and then they killed her," Stiles said bitterly. "Allison's dead. Now I guess the only good thing is it looks like I'm dying too."

I tore my hand away from his, looking at Stiles with a serious expression on my face. "Don't say that," I told him.

Stiles frowned, mostly because I had let go of his hand. He seemed to need reassurance that I was alright and that I was there with him, and that came best in the form of touch.

"Well, it's true," Stiles muttered.

"No, its not," I said. "You might be dying, but that certainly isn't a good thing."

I wondered if he was happy he was dying because he still felt guilty of what Void had done, and then immediately regretted it. The thought sent such a sour feeling through me, I couldn't push it away fast enough.

"He made a powerful move by splitting the two of you," Noshiko said as she observed Stiles.

"So what's our move?" Kira asked.

Noshiko sighed, looking down at the coffee table.

"At this point you need a divine move," she said.

"What's that?" I questioned.

At the sound of my voice, Stiles grabbed my hand. Now that he knew I didn't hate him for what Void had done, it was obvious Stiles needed constant reassurance that I was okay and safe, because he was afraid I wouldn't be after what happened with Void.

I smiled sadly at Stiles before looking back at Noshiko.

"In the game of Go, it's what we call a truly inspired, or out of the box move," Noshiko explained. "The Nogitsune has had sente, the advantage, until this point. What you need is a divine move in order to turn the game around."

"Okay, so is anyone feeling divinely inspired?" Stiles asked sarcastically.

I sighed in frustration.

"Can you please stop being so negative about this?" I asked.

"Well, its not like there's anything positive about it," Stiles answered.

He was avoiding eye contact once again.

"I think there is," I said. "You're back to you, I'm here with you and not kidnapped by Void, and Allison figured out how to kill the Oni."

Stiles looked at me, his face looking a tad more hopeful than before. I smiled softly in a job well done.

"Mum, you said you trapped the Nogitsune in a jar, right?" Kira asked, looking deep in thought.

"It wasn't the jar that trapped it," Noshiko explained. "It was where I put it."

Stiles eyes widened at the exact same time Kira's did.

"The Nemeton," Stiles said.

"A place I don't know too much about," Noshiko admitted.

"Well, who does?" I asked.

Stiles looked up, his eyes bright. It seemed he knew the answer.

"Deaton. Deaton does," he said.

. . .

We got out of Stiles' jeep as we arrived at the school. Scott had been driving, since Stiles was in no form to drive, so he had sat in the back with me. I was now currently helping him out of the car.

He stumbled forward as he left the car and I quickly caught up, lifting him upright and slinging his arm over my shoulder to give him more balance.

The others got out of the car after us, the others including Scott, Kira, and Lydia. We all ran to the doors to the school, but just before Scott opened the doors, Stiles stopped him.

"Scott, hold on," he said. "I know what you're all thinking, that if this works it might kill me too. But even if it does, you have to go through with it," Stiles gaze slid to me. "Stick with the plan, okay?"

I shook my head as Scott said, "my plan is to save you. That's the plan I'm going with."

"That's the plan we're all going with," I said.

Stiles shook his head sadly, saying nothing, so I kissed his cheek. His lips twitched into a small smile and he kissed my forehead.

Scott opened the door, and we all walked through the entrance to the school, expecting to arrive in the school lobby, but we didn't.

I stared in bewilderment as we walked into a garden of sorts. It had tall hedges surrounding the place, and there were fountains and all sorts of different kind of plants in there. It was also snowing. A lot.

We stopped walking when we got into the middle of the courtyard, staring around in wonder. How had we gotton here? Why were we here? What did it mean? I was jolted out of my thoughts when I heard a loud bang.

We all turned around and found the doors to the school, or garden, closed, ice covering the front of it. Stiles took his arm off my shoulder and took an unsteady step forward, holding his arm in front of me and keeping me back, as if protecting me.

"Well, this is definitely not a part of the plan," I stated.

A/N:
