Chapter 17
I called Stiles back, but he didn't answer. Instantly, I felt foolish, remembering it was in the middle of the night and decided to call him back in the morning. I put my phone back down and closed my eyes, falling into a deep sleep.
The next day, I woke up and the first thing I did was call Stiles again. He still didn't answer.
I sighed and got dressed before walking downstairs. I nearly tripped down the last step when I saw Kira and Scott in my living room, but managed not to slip.
"I'm glad you've finally got some plans for the weekend," my dad jokes, ruffling my hair.
Plans? Since when did I have plans? I knew I organised to see Stiles today, but my parents didn't normally count that as plans, since I'd done it every weekend when I was a kid.
I looked to Kira and Scott, and Kira winked at me, motioning me to go along. I blinked, confused, but decided to humour them.
"Uh, yes, plans. I have plans with them. We'd better get along with the plans then," I rambled, deeply confused.
My dad didn't seem to notice my confused state though, which was good.
"Alright kiddo, have fun," my dad threw me a granola bar. "And don't forget breakfast."
I caught the granola bar and nodded my head before leaving my house with Kira and Scott. What was happening? What were they up to?
I spotted an unfamiliar car in my driveway and was surprised to find Lydia in the driver's seat. Did we actually have plans and I just forgot about them?
I hesitantly got into the backseat of the car, Kira sitting next to me while Scott got into the front.
"What's happening?"
"We'll explain once we get there," Lydia replied shortly.
"Where is there?" I asked, but no one answered.
The car ride was silent as Lydia droves us somewhere, and I started getting worried. Were they kidnapping me? Was I getting kidnapped? Why would Kira want to kidnap me? She was supposed to be my best friend. Best friends don't kidnap each other. Right?
Lydia finally stopped the car in front of an apartment building, and we all got out and walked into the building. We went up a few stories and arrived at apartment 402. Lydia opened the door and walked in, making it obvious she'd been here before.
We entered an office and found Allison, Ethan, and Aiden talking around a desk. As soon as I entered, their eyes went to me and they shut their mouths.
"What the hell is happening?" I asked, getting frustrated.
And that's when they told me.
They told me everything. How Scott got bitten by Peter Hale who was a werewolf and turned Scott into a werewolf himself and they then had to band together and kill Peter Hale, with Derek Hale ending him by slashing his throat. They also told me how Allison and her dad were former werewolf hunters and how Lydia was a banshee, as well as all the crazy creatures they had seen and defeated. The most alarming part was when they told me that Stiles was being possessed by a dark Kitsune, also known as a Nogitsune and how the Oni were hunting him.
It was silent for a while after their explanation while I tried to process everything I had just heard. Scott, Isaac, Ethan, and Aiden were werewolves, Allison was a former werewolf hunter,ย Lydia was a banshee and Stiles was being possessed by a dark spirit.
"Why are you telling me all this now?" I asked. Everyone looked to one another uneasily, trying to get the other to talk. "Wait, where even is Stiles?"
"A mental asylum," Aiden said casually.
I blinked at him, opening my mouth, and then closing it.
"Why?" I finally asked.
"Well, we haven't stopped the Nogitsune from taking over Stiles' body-" Scott started.
"But you guys shot him with that fox poison stuff," I interjected.
How had I gone this long without knowing about all this?
"It didn't kill the Nogitsune," Aiden said, like it was obvious.
"Well how was I supposed to know that?" I snapped.
"You could listen," he suggested.
I narrowed my eyes at him, wondering how mad everyone would be if I burnt him alive.
"Anyway," Scott said, taking over the conversation once again, "like Aiden said, the poison didn't kill the Nogitsune inside Stiles, and instead just temporarily stopped it from taking over Stiles again. Stiles decided to go to Eichen House, where it would be harder for the Oni to get to him."
"So, why are you telling me all this now? And why did you guys call me last night?" I prodded.
Scott sighed but continued.
"When Stiles was Stiles again, he kept saying your name. He said that Void was after you," Scott said.
It seemed the Nogitsune was now being called Void.
"After me as in he wants to kill me?" I asked, my voice going several octaves higher in my panic.
I was not ready for an evil spirit possessing my boyfriend to kill me.
"Not exactly..." Scott said, trailing off and looking very uncomfortable. I raised my eyebrows, gesturing him to continue. "Stiles said that Void was obsessed with you. That he's got an insatiable desire for you."
I thought back to yesterday and when Stiles, or rather Void, had held me yesterday. I had thought it was protectively, but with the information I had now, I realised it had been possessively. I shuddered as I remembered how I'd kissed him and how possessive it had been. How possessive he had been. Of me.
"We had to make sure you were okay, and that Void hadn't done anything to you, so we called you," Scott finished.
"But I didn't answer your calls. How would you know I was okay if I didn't answer them?"
Scott suddenly looked sheepish and avoided eye contact with me.
"I sort of broke into your house," he mumbled.
My eyes widened. He what? I was about to give him a lecture on what a complete violation of privacy that was, when Ethan spoke.
"The point is, we brought you here so we could keep an eye on you and keep you safe," he said.
"I can protect myself," I said.
"Sure you can," he replied.
I scoffed, very insulted. I was about to tell them that I actually could protect myself and burn the twins alive as an example when I thought better of it. I didn't want to tell them I was a Fire Nymph just yet.
"Now, about my dad," Allison said, going onto another subject.
"The former hunter who has been arrested alongside the former Alpha, Derek Hale, because Void framed them for the death of Silverfinger who was in possession of the scroll needed to get rid of the Nogitsune?" I asked, "just to clarify."
The others looked at me for a second, surprised, before nodding. After that, the group started coming up with a plan to save Chris Argent and Derek Hale as well as take a piece of evidence that they believed had the scroll inside.
. . .
The plan sucked.
I did absolutely nothing, and the only reason I was even going was so that they could keep an eye on me and make sure the Nogitsune wouldn't get me.
I still hadn't told them I was a Fire Nymph, but everyone knew that Kira was a Kitsune, and that she was apparently really good with a samurai sword.
Currently, I was crouching behind a car with Allison, Scott, and Kira. Allison pulled up her cross bow and looked through the sniper scope on it to get a better look at the van containing all the murder evidence for Silverfinger's death.
Slowly, she lowered it, not taking her eyes off the van as she whispered to Kira, "you're up."
Kira nodded her head and took a deep breath before leaving the safety of the other side of the car and running towards the van, Allison tracking her through her scope. Kira put a device on the bottom of the van and grinned at me, but her grin quickly disappeared as the door to the building beside the van opened.
Kira swiftly turned and hid behind the other side of the van, looking at us for help. I wasn't sure what help we could give though as Deputy Parish exited the building and opened the van's front door, only to see something and immediately pull out his gun.
I frowned. Whatever he saw certainly wasn't a part of the plan.
Parish looked around, holding his gun up high as he slowly circled the vehicle. As he arrived at the back of the van, Kira only one turn away, I spoke.
"We have to do something!" I hissed, but someone else did something first.
The doors to the back of the van were kicked open from the inside and someone jumped down, taking Parish by surprise and slamming his head against the van, knocking him out.
"Who the hell is that?" Scott asked.
"Kincaid," Allison answered.
I looked at Kincaid. He was very big and very tall, with dark skin and a bald head. I could see his muscles against his clothes, and from the way he easily knocked Parish - a police officer - out, it was clear he knew how to fight.
I would not want to be up against him.
Kincaid started rummaging through the evidence and Allison and Scott looked at each other before getting up and walking towards him, warning me to stay there. I grumbled but listened to them and watched the scene unfold from afar.
Kincaid picked up an evidence bag with a silver prosthetic finger and pulled it out of the bag, inspecting it.
"We need that finger," Scott said from behind him, and Kincaid turned around with a surprised expression on his face.
Allison had her crossbow raised, directed right at Kincaid's heart.
Kincaid smirked, seemingly amused by this.
"Why should I give it to you?" he asked, his voice surprisingly deep.
"There's a briefcase in there with $150,000 in it," Allison replied evenly.
Kincaid lifted the silver finger up, looking less amused.
"The scroll inside this prosthetic finger is worth three million," he said.
"Give me the finger," Scott said, making me grin. He closed his eyes and sighed. "You know what I mean."
Suddenly, Kira jumped from the top of the van, landing right on Kincaid, and wrapped her arms around his neck. Kincaid frowned, as if that was a mild inconvenience for him and easily threw Kira off him, the girl landing on the floor with a thud.
Kincaid's eyes turned blue and sharp teeth came out of his mouth.
"I guess negotiations are over," he said, before letting out a loud roar.
Allison shot an arrow into Kincaid's chest, which the werewolf took out like it was nothing more than a splinter.
Kira ran towards Kincaid but before she could throw a hit, he grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up of the ground, growling at her, and then throwing her against the wall. I wanted to get up and out from behind the car, to check if Kira was okay, but I stayed where I was, hoping that Allison and Scott would be able to take him down on their own.
Kincaid hit Allison with his superhuman strength, throwing her against the wall as well, leaving only Scott. Scott ran up to Kincaid and hit him right across the jaw, but Kincaid barely moved. Scott punched him again, and again, but it still didn't seem to have any affect on the giant werewolf. When Scott went to punch a fourth time, Kincaid grabbed both his arms and bent them down before heading butting Scott in the face.
Scott stumbled back, holding his injured face, as Kincaid walked towards him. He dodged Scott's punch and kneed him in the stomach, causing Scott to bend over. When he was bent over, Kincaid slammed both his fists into Scott's back, pushing him to the floor before kicking him in the stomach again.
Scott fell to the floor, gasping for breath whilst Kincaid crouched down beside him.
"You have the eyes of an Alpha, but where's the strength?" he asked.
"Up here," Aiden yelled from the raised platform next to Ethan
Both boys jumped off the platform, Aiden kicking Kincaid in the chest when he landed. As the twins were fighting, I spotted Lydia run out to Allison and I ran out myself, kneeling on the floor next to Kira.
I checked to make sure she was okay, and when she was, I looked up to find Kincaid overpowering the twins. Scott was still on the ground, as well as Allison, which left Kira standing alone.
Kincaid knocked Ethan to the ground, and the boy didn't get up. Aiden growled in outrage and ran towards Kincaid, but the huge werewolf punched Aiden in the stomach and then the face, pushing Aiden down to his knees. Kincaid was getting ready to make the final blow when Kira yelled, "no!", and ran forward.
Kincaid easily threw her to the ground, but Kira just got back up again and ran forwards, causing Kincaid to push Aiden to the ground and focus on Kira. He kicked Kira to the ground again and pressed his foot on her chest to stop her getting up. He raised his hand, claws out and getting ready to slash her face.
I watched as Kincaid brought his arm down if it was in slow motion and my emotions flared up. Before I knew what I was doing, I flung out my hands and a burst of flame came out of them, hitting Kincaid straight in the chest.
He took a step back before tumbling to the floor, gasping for breath. Everyone turned to look at me, their expressions ranging from surprise to horror.
"I'll explain later," I said with a shrug of my shoulders, before hurrying over to Kira and helping her up.
Everyone's eyes were still on me until Aiden spoke.
"Let's finish this guy off," he said, walking towards Kincaid with Ethan in tow.
I looked at Kincaid, noticing that his chest was still smoking, and remembered my mother's earlier words. You have a lot of power, but that is not always a good thing.
"No, stop!" Scott yelled, getting up from the floor, but the twins didn't listen.
They continued forward, about to end the werewolf when Lydia yelled "stop", her voice echoing in my ears.
"You want him to come after us?" Aiden asked, looking up from Kincaid's weak body.
"Scott, we've seen guys like this," Ethan added. "Trust us, he's dangerous."
Scott, who was now standing, looked at Kincaid.
"So are we," he said, glancing at me before back down at Kincaid. "And he looks smart enough to remember that."
With that, Scott leaned towards the beaten werewolf and took the silver prosthetic finger out of his pocket. He lifted the finger upside down, and a tiny scroll fell out, smaller than my pinkie.
"We're here to save a life, not end one."
I felt a prickle of unease at his words. Kincaid looked very injured from my fire blast, and I couldn't help thinking how easily I could have killed him.
