16.) Camp (Part 2 of 3)
The students are woken up early. They all sluggishly eat breakfast and by then they still weren't awake.
Everyone is gathered outside at exactly 5:30.
"Good morning, class," Aizawa greets. "Today we begin a training camp that will increase your strength. The goal for all of you is to increase your skills quickly, so you can get your provisional license. This will allow you to face the dangers that continue to fester in the darkness. Proceed carefully." He pulls the baseball from their first day out of his pocket. "Look alive Bakugo." He tosses the ball to Kaida who catches it with ease. "Try throwing that for me."
"So like in the fitness test," she says.
"That's right," Aizawa mumbles. "When you first started school your score was 755.1 meters. Let's see if you've improved."
She moves back a bit.
"Oh, I get it! You're checking our progress!" Mina exclaims.
"Lots happened to us in the last three months maybe she can throw it a whole mile now!" Sero comments.
"Come on! Get it, Bakubabe!" Kirishima cheers.
She winds up her throwing arm then smirks. "I've got this," she growls. She moves her arm back to throw. "DIE!" She throws it off with a large explosion.
The ball soars through the air. She steadies himself after the harsh throw with a proud smirk.
"That was 769.6 meters," Aizawa deadpans.
Her eyes widen in disbelief.
"That's it?" Sero mutters. "Kinda disappointing..."
"You've had a single semester at UA, due to your various experiences, most of you have definitely improved, but improvements have mostly been limited to mental prowess and technical skill with a slight increase in stamina thrown in along the way. As you can see your quirks themselves have not improved much on a fundamental level. That's why we're now going to focus on improving your powers. This'll be so hard it'll feel like you're dying. Let's all hope you survive." He grins evilly.
"I'll be the judge of that..." Kaida huffs to herself, crossing her arms.
"I got a list compiling of each task I've assigned to each of you to help improve your quirks," Aizawa says. "Aoyama, continuous laser beams to the sky. Ashido there's a cliff over there, melt through it, and make a cave or something. Asui, increase your tongue strength and body strength by climbing up the cliff. Iida, nonstop running. Uraraka, we have a bubble ball dome to have you repeatedly roll down the hill to get yourself used to being in the air. After, you'll be lifting as many rocks as you can. Kirishima and Ojiro, the two of you will be tag teaming. Kirishima continuously keep your quirk active as Ojiro smacks you with his tail." He continues to explain to everyone what they're doing. "Twins. There's a barrel full of boiling water over there for the two of you. It will expand your sweat glands then you whip your hands into the air and send off explosions at full power. Hopefully in doing so it will increase the scale of your attacks."
"Sensei," Kaida cuts him off from continuing. "Could I get my own barrel? Far away from my brother?"
He blinks. "No. I don't care about whatever problem the two of you have going on. You will be training together or you can go home." He turns to give Deku, Mineta, and Momo their tasks.
The twins look at each other. Kaida's expression is a harsh glare and Katsuki's is one of sad anger. Everyone watches the two as they quietly head off to the barrel. The two plunge their hands in the water, pulling them out and releasing big explosions.
It's a few hours of silence before they all start to huff in exhaustion. That's when Class 1B decide to tiredly join them as they were just woken up a few minutes ago. Vlad King gets them quickly to stations.
"Kai–" Bakugo tries to start up a conversation.
"No. I'm not talking to you, so I don't want you talking to me."
"Plea–"
"No," she snarls, throwing her hands up to explode.
"Well what do you fucking want?!" he shouts, exploding his quirk above him.
"For you to not get mad at me for every little thing!" she replies, plunging her hands in the water. "I don't need protection anymore! I'm not that same scared little girl in preschool! You're so overbearing it's suffocating!"
"I'm sorry that I care about your well being!"
She splashes the water in his direction. "Shut the fuck up! God you're so fucking annoying!"
"I wish I was an only child, so I wouldn't have to deal with your stupid fucking shit!"
Her eyes water a bit as she snarls, bringing her arms at his face point blank and releasing an explosion. His eyes widen only having enough time to raise his arms to block. He gets thrown far back with what would normally be scorched arms for a normal person, but since they have the same quirk his skin is only a bit tender.
"Are you fucking crazy?!"
"You seem to think so!" she responds, blasting forward to land a punch.
He blasts himself out of the way, and she punches the ground, forming cracks.
"Ah! Aizawa sensei! The twins are fighting!" someone screams.
Katsuki gets himself to his feet as does Kaida. The two stare at each other for a moment before they rush at each other ready to use their quirks only to find they can't. They both see the scarf come racing toward them, so they both back flip to avoid it and race around it to send punches at each other. One a bit reluctantly and the other in pure rage, but both in annoyed anger.
"The two of you stop!" Aizawa shouts, running up to them.
Kaida manages to get a blast to her brother's face as Aizawa blinks, making the teacher cuss. He continues to try to snag them in his scarf, but they're both so angry and aware of his attacks, that they continue to fight while dodging his scarf.
"You're a fucking rat! You can never understand how it feels to constantly walk on eggshells to not set you off!" Kaida shouts.
"I could say the same!" he responds, blasting himself above her.
She throws an arm out in front of her to blast her quirk at him as he falls towards her. Both of their quirks aren't working. She decides to dodge him, grabbing his leg and flinging him to the ground. He shouts in pain but swirls around to kick her feet out from under her, making her land on top of him. The two end up rolling around on the ground, throwing punches and kicks and insults and bites and headbutts and whatever else they can think of to hurt each other.
Vlad King and the Pussycats move to intervene as well. They all then learn to not get in between the Bakugo's when they're fighting with each other. They're all in awe as the two siblings continue to land punches on each other even with all their quirks trying to stop them.
Aizawa decides to let them exhaust themselves and work out whatever annoying issues they have going on with each other. The other students have all completely stopped what they were doing to watch the twins.
"What are all of you looking at? Get back to training!" Aizawa barks.
They all gulp and scurry off.
"Aizawa, what're we gonna do," Vlad gruffly asks. "We can't stop them."
Aizawa sighs. "Nothing. Just leave them be. Fighting is a form of training, and they need to get over whatever they're fighting about, so we can get back on track."
"Are you sure about that?" Pixie Bob asks. "They're really going at it. Like sending blows to really hurt each other. Maybe even kill each other."
"And they'll deal with the consequences when they don't have Recovery Girl to always heal them."
Mandalay watches them in worry. "I wonder what they're fighting about?"
Kota watches the two from his hiding place. "Stupid."
"You bitch!"
"Fuck you, you asshat!" Kaida screams as the two yank on each other's hair.
~~~
Sunset comes and training ends. The classes meet back at the base at the picnic tables to eat.
"Now! Remember what I said?!" Pixie Bob shouts. "We're not serving your food anymore."
"If you guys wanna eat, you'll have to make your own meals!" the green haired yellow cat girl says. "Starting with curry!"
The twins were put into timeout once they exhausted themselves. Aizawa wrapped the two together and hung them by their ankles off a nearby cliff until everyone else was finished training. The two eventually passed out from the blood rushing to their heads after struggling and more insults. Whatever problem they fought about was still not resolved as they still weren't talking to each other.
They were exhausted as the two woke up right before having to make dinner. They quickly and easily make dinner for themselves, making their curry so much better than everyone else's. Also it was increasingly spicier. Everyone kept to themselves and nobody even spoke to the twins or about what happened in fear they would go off at each other again or to the one who speaks about it.
After dinner, they're all given a few moments of rest.
Kirishima makes his way over to Kaida with a first aid kit. "Hey, let's get ya bandaged up."
"I can do it myself," she harshly responds, not wanting anyone to talk to her.
"Let me just help."
"I need a shower first or there's no point," she responds. "Besides I don't fucking need to be bandaged up. I'm fine. I just need to sleep, so I can get my energy back and KICK HIS ASS TOMORROW."
"The fuck you are, you snotty little bitch!" he responds.
Aizawa sighs, grabbing Katsuki and shoving him inside. "Showers now."
He doesn't fight back but huffs as he goes inside. Kirishima sighs, getting up to put the kit where he found it.
Mandalay claps and gathers everyone's attention. "Please take your dishes to the kitchen. Rinse them off and put them in the sink. After you all have finished cleaning up, please go take shower."
"Yeah! Cause ya stink!" Ragdoll shouts with a grin.
Kaida already did those things, so she heads inside to the girl's room to grab some pajamas before getting to the showers. She rinses herself off, scrubbing off the dirt, grime, and blood from her fight with her brother. She looks at the bits of scratches she got on her arms and sighs. She hated fighting with her brother. But the two of them are too hardheaded to be any other way. Neither of them are going to step up. It will die out, but it's going to take a long time especially with such a sensitive topic for her. Kaida gets up and makes her way to rest in the hot spring. It warms her up, and she immediately feels her pain starting to temporarily vanish with the heat.
After her soak, she gets dressed and heads straight to bed. But even after all the girls returned, talked a bit, and eventually went to sleep, she still couldn't sleep. The female bomber sighs and gets up, needing some fresh air and heading out the front.
She pauses, seeing a figure already out. She's quick to recognize the hair color though. "I didn't expect you to be out here," Kaida says, seeing Shoto sitting on the edge of the porch at the top of the steps.
"Tired."
"Then go to sleep."
"Not that kind of tired."
"Ah," Kaida nods, moving over beside him and sitting down. She leans her head on his shoulders and glances up to the stars.
"Why are you out here?" he asks.
"Couldn't sleep."
"Because of your fight, right? What's going on with you and your brother?"
She sighs. "He knows I had an anxiety attack."
"I didn't tell him," he quickly says.
"I know you didn't," she sighs, closing her eyes. "We... We have a special connection as twins. You might've noticed."
"I remember back in the locker room that time he was trying to kill Mineta and suddenly stopped then called out your name and went to make sure you were okay."
She nods. "Yeah. I... when we have an especially painful or really emotional memory... We can both feel it. It... It's hard to explain."
"Twin telepathy?"
"Sorta. We can't really read each other's minds or anything. Well, we typically know what we're thinking... but that's just cause we're really close. A strong emotional memory or thought, we can both see. Either if I think it or he does, we can see it."
"How did your brother know then?"
"Recovery Girl told him his heart rate went up as he was sleeping as if he was–"
"Having a anxiety attack?"
"Yeah..."
"Then why are the two of you fighting?"
"I told him I didn't have one when he asked and got mad when I didn't tell him the truth. He threatened me by saying if it happens again, he'll tell mom. And if he tells mom, I'll have to go back to taking my medicine."
"Why not just take them?"
"Because they make me become someone I'm not... Plus it feels like admitting defeat like... like I'm weak! ...And I'm not!"
He looks at her. "I know you're not."
She feels her heart thump. Has anyone ever truly told her that? "Really?"
"You did beat me and your brother at the sports festival."
She smiles. "Yeah I did."
"I know. That's what I just said."
She slaps her forehead. "I swear sometimes, icyhot. You just... aughh! How can you be one of the top students when you're so stupid?!"
He tilts his head. "I don't understand."
"I know you don't."
