Misunderstood

Nobody really understands the truth
The meaning behind expressions
We rely too heavily on a smile or a frown
To determine the moods of those we love

For you it's different
You don't display outward emotion
It's nothing to be ashamed of
But it does make you very misunderstood

Those that are stoic are targeted
Those that are emotional are used
You cannot be too careful lest you be hurt
And so you hide your emotions behind a mask

Is this natural? Or is it crushing you?
Am I hurting you? Or am I helping you?
Do you mean what you say? Or are you lying?
I can't see it in your expression...

All the things others might say get burdensome
But you forget, I'm here for you, right here
Lay your burdens on my back and rest
Your stoicism matters nothing, nor your wit
Nor anything of that sort

I've accepted much worse than you
I've healed much worse than you
You heal my wounds, I heal yours
And over time, I learn to not look at expressions

Because if you really want to know someone you should look at their heart, not their expression.
