14.) The Day After

The next day, school was canceled for the students. The teachers teaching the first years are called together to have a meeting. The school is empty beside said teachers, the loud obnoxious cicadas, and the loud horde of reporters outside the gate screaming for answers.

Meanwhile, Aizawa, Vlad, and Echo are at the police station, telling them everything they know. Echo continues to beat herself up for not being able to save Bakugo. Aizawa pokes her forehead, dragging her out of her thoughts as Vlad tells his short story.

"I told you to stop," Aizawa mutters to her, pulling his hand back. "It's nobody's fault. He's going to be just fine."

Tsukauchi stands up with a smile. "I appreciate your help. I need to make a call. I believe we have a lead to where Bakugo may be." He pulls out his phone moving over closer to the wall, his back facing them.

Echo can hear All Might's voice come over the phone. "Sorry, what is it, Tsukauchi?"

"We finally finished taking comprehensive statements from Aizawa, Echo, and Vlad King. I think we found something. It's possible we have a lead on where the League of Villains is hiding."

Yagi sucks in a breath. "Really? Are you serious?!"

"Yep," Tsukauchi nods then proceeds to explain.

The three pro heroes in the room listen on in silence. Yagi responds in determination on getting Bakugo before the call is ended.

Echo stands up, forming her helmet over her head. "Are we finished?"

"Yes, the three of you may go," Tsukauchi says. "We'll contact you to give you more details and discuss how we will approach the situation. Sansa, show them out please."

The cat officer salutes and walks them to the front door, bowing at them after accomplishing his job then heading back inside.

The three pros look at each other, glad the police station isn't hoarded by reporters.

"I'll see you boys later," Echo says, head turned down. "I... have something important that I have to do." Before they can reply, she spreads out her suit's wings and blasts herself off the ground, flying away.

Vlad and Aizawa look at each other in confusion.

"Wonder what she's in such a rush for?" Vlad questions, watching her form disappear from view.

"Who knows." Aizawa watches her leave with a hint of worry for her expressed on his face.

"Computer, connect to my school account please," Echo says to her in-suit computer as she keeps herself in the air. "I need you to get me directions to one of my student's house. Bakugo Katsuki."

People notice her flying far over them, shouting up to her with either greetings or questions about UA. She ignores them.

"Directing you to the fastest route for your destination."

Echo sees an arrow appear on screen. "Thank yoouu." She changes her direction to follow. She lands in front of a three-story house. "Wow, wonder what his parents do to afford a beautiful place like this?" She rings the doorbell, hoping that they're home.

A female clone of Bakugo opens the door. "Can I help you?"

"Sorry to intrude, but I–"

"You're Echo!"

"Yes, and... you must be Bakugo's mother or... sister?"

She laughs. "Yes, I'm his mother."

Echo sighs, letting her helmet down to reveal her face. "Glad I got the right–"

"Oh, wow! I've never seen your face before! You're gorgeous! Have you ever modeled before?"

Hibiki's face flushes. "Ah, no, I... I like to keep my face out of public knowledge. I would rather keep to myself..."

"Ah, within good reason," she nods. "Ah, sorry for my rudeness! I'm Bakugo Mitsuki. Come in, come in." She moves aside, holding the door open to let Hibiki inside.

Hibiki nods, walking in and excusing herself for the random entry. "I wanted to talk to you."

"About my son, I assume." She leads the pro heroine over to their couch. "Let me go make some tea and get my husband. He's upstairs working to keep himself busy from worrying."

Hibiki sits down and looks down at her lap after the comment. "Yes, thank you."

"MASARU! WE HAVE A GUEST! COME DOWN HERE!" she shouts as she walks to the kitchen.

Hibiki flinches at the loud noise, not expecting her to randomly scream. Guess I know where Bakugo gets his personality from now...

A few seconds later, a brunet man comes down the stairs. He looks at the guest with a sorry look on his face. He moves to sit on the couch across from the one she's on. "I'm sorry about her yelling. I hope she didn't scare you. I'm Bakugo Masaru, you are?"

She lightly bows. "Echo."

"Ah, yes, one of the top heroes, correct?"

"Yes, number 6."

"What are you doing here?"

"I'm... one of your son's teachers. I wanted to talk to you two about him."

"Ah, yes." He becomes quiet after that.

Mitsuki comes back over after a few minutes, setting down cups and pouring some tea into each one. She hands Hibiki a cup.

"Thank you," Hibiki basically whispers, taking a small sip. Her hair falls into her face, covering her eyes.

Mitsuki takes a sip of her own. "You're welcome, dear."

It's silent as they sip their tea, waiting for Hibiki to start the conversation. Hibiki quickly chugs down the hot tea, setting the cup down on the table between them after finishing.

Hibiki finally looks up at the two of them with her blurred vision before bowing. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry that I-I was unable to save your son. I'm a pro hero. I should be able to save everyone! Especially one of my own students! Especially when I can clone myself! I was right there when it happened. I was within reach of him, but I wasn't able to grab him! I feel so awful." She grunts, shoving her tears away with the heels of her palms. "If anything happens to him. I... I–"

"Dear."

Hibiki looks up at hearing Mitsuki's voice. She sees the calm and caring expression on the woman's face. Her expression is relaxed as she sincerely smiles at the pro. Masaru's expression is the same.

"We don't blame you," Masaru says.

"Please stop beating yourself up over it. It's alright," Mitsuki says, getting up and sitting beside Hibiki. "We know our son. He's a hotheaded little shit which is why he's in this predicament in the first place I'm sure." She wipes away Hibiki's tears with her thumb. "How old are you, Echo?"

"29."

"Ah, young. Do you have any children of your own yet?"

"No," she replies, shaking her head. "Not even married. I have a younger brother who's 20. I also have an older brother who's 35, he has two little boys. A 14-year-old and a 5-year-old."

She smiles. "Seems you have experience taking care of children then. But, you won't fully understand until you have one of your own. All parents are different. We know our boy though. We know he's strong. And we know that you are all going to bring him home. We know you are doing everything you possibly can right now to bring him back."

"I just... don't understand why you're not angry at me."

She laughs. "It's the stupid villains that are at fault and probably a little bit of my son's. I know you tried your hardest. The reality is that heroes can't always win. Heroes risk their lives for others. All I need to know is that you tried, and you've proven that. But my son is a fighter, and he's okay. That doesn't mean we aren't worried though. We're fucking terrified. But, we have hope and faith that you all will bring him home safely."

"We need more people like you," Masaru says. "You truly care about this, and it's nice to see that. It's nice to see that heroes are just people too instead of always keeping up a front. We're not going to blame someone who tries so hard to prevent bad things from happening. That's an inhuman thing to do. A hero's work is difficult, and we're glad that they're out there trying to make a difference for all of us nonhero people."

Hibiki looks between the two of them as her lip wobbles and tears begin to stream down her face. "Thank you... thank you..." She chokes out a sob and begins to shake.

Mitsuki brings the girl into a hug, rubbing circles on her back. She's not sure if the hero can actually feel her doing this though as she does have a hard suit coating her body, but she continues to do it anyway. She chuckles. "I've never had to reassure someone before. Katsuki is too much of a hard ass."

Hibiki pulls away. "I'm sorry." She sniffles. "I really shouldn't of broken down like that. It's... not like me... Jeez, I was the one that came here to do the reassuring or something."

The two women laugh.

"I'm glad you came. It's nice to know you care so much about our son," Mitsuki says.

"I... don't know if I'm allowed to tell you or not... but we do have an idea of where your son might be held. I'll try to keep you updated when I can."

"Ah, how about I make it a little easier and give you my number," Mitsuki says.

"Oh, that would be great. You can just tell me. My suit will record it."

She nods and tells the pro her number. "I appreciate this, really."

Hibiki stands up, completely back to normal. "Thank you for the tea, it was lovely. It was nice to meet the two of you. I'm glad you were both home."

"I'm glad as well," Masaru says, standing up.

"Well, I'm sorry to dump myself on you then leave, but I have to go."

"I'll walk you out," Masaru says.

She leaves the house, flying away once again.

Masaru comes back to see his wife crying.

She sighs. "Dammit, I really miss that little asshole."

Masaru smiles, sitting down next to her and bringing her into a hug. She's stayed strong for too long.

Echo flies over to a particular dojo, landing in the middle of the property and heading out to find who she's looking for. She does eventually find him, sadly training by himself. He looks completely focused, perfect for a sneak attack.

She lets her helmet down and sneaks up behind him, getting in close and whispering in his ear. "Mashichan!"

He flinches and automatically swings his fluffed-up tail down at the attacker. She easily dodges with a small grin on her face.

"Hibi-senpai!" He tackles her in a hug.

"Alright, alright," she says, patting his back. "You're sweaty and stinky. No hugs until you're not gross anymore."

He chuckles, pulling away. "You... look better than when we left camp."

She smiles. "Yeah, I just needed to have a little talk. Now, go get showered and dressed. I'm going to take you out to do something fun."

"Hai!" he salutes and rushes off inside the house portion of the dojo. He comes back about 15 minutes later. "Ready! Where we going?"

She retracts her suit back into her bracelets to reveal herself in a simple white blouse and black jeans. "Your parents are out of town, yes?"

"Uh, yeah, won't be back for a week."

"How about you go pack and you can stay over at my place till they come back. Plus, I think we both could use some company. Hide and Rin are there too."

"I'd love that," he sighs happily. He rushes back inside and quickly packs a bag of clothes and things, and he returns with said bag in hand. "Ready!"

Hibiki smiles. "Let's drop off your things at my place first. Then we can go grocery shopping. I cleared out basically everything since we were supposed to be gone for a week."

Ojiro's tail slumps to the ground as they exit the large dojo. "Is... Is he going to be okay?"

"I... I hope so. You can't tell your classmates this, but the police believe they've found where the League is hiding, so hopefully, he's in the same place. We believe they kidnapped him because they want him to join them."

"Do you think he'll do it?"

"No. He's definitely difficult, but his heart wants to be a hero, so I don't think he will. I think he's going to give them a really hard time though."

"Do you think they'll kill him then?"

"Mashirao."

He flinches, never hearing her say his full name. "Sorry..." He bows his head.

"It's fine. I... just don't want to think about it for a bit."

"Okay..."

"What do you want to eat?"

"Ramen. I haven't had your ramen in forever," he answers, basically drooling at the thought.

She chuckles. "You've always really loved my ramen, huh? Alright, I haven't made ramen in a while. I'm good with that."

"Yes!" he cheers with an excited fist pump.

They take the short train ride to her apartment, dropping off his things then heading to the closest market with Hideki and Ren. Ojiro grabs a basket, pulling it with his tail as Hibiki drops different ingredients into it.

"You pick out which noodles you want while I go get some green onions and other vegetables, okay? Pick anything else you might want to snack on too. Meet me in the produce section when you finish then we can go pay, alright?"

"Okay," he nods.

"Hideki, get some food that you'd be interested in too and anything your brother might want too."

"Yes, oba."

The four separate and conquer. Ren, carried by Hibiki, and her go straight to the green onions. She looks at each cluster and tries to determine which one has more in it and looks the healthiest.

"Noizu?"

Hibiki jerks in surprise, jumping out of being lost in thought. She twirls around. "Aizawa, what are you doing here?"

"It's the grocery store."

"Well, yeah, but you in the produce section?"

He points to a bin of different flavored apple sauce juice packet squeezy things. "This is where they keep my snack."

She blinks at the bin and smiles a bit. "You're so weird."

Aizawa notices Ren in her arms. "How are you doing, Ren?"

"Good..." he quietly replies.

"You did an amazing job taking down that bad guy," Aizawa says. "Are you wanting to be a hero like your oba and older brother?"

"Yeah!"

"Your quirk is very strong. You'll be a good hero one day I'm sure."

Ren gives him a big smile.

"Oh!" Hibiki speaks up. "How about you join us for dinner? I'm going to make ramen. I make too much whenever I do and never seem to finish it before it goes bad. You like ramen, right?"

"Yeah."

"Great!"

"I never agreed to come."

"But you're coming anyway. You're not going to pass up eating good food."

He sighs. "Fine."

"Good! No takebacks!"

"Really? Are you a child?"

"At heart, Aizawa. At heart."

He rolls his eyes.

"Hibi-jeebie, is that you?"

Hibiki shuts her eyes tight for a second, mentally groaning. "Sakuni." She turns to the new voice.

"It is you! Bet you're still as creepy as always, huh?" she chuckles condescendingly. "Sneaking up on people still?"

"Yep," Hibiki responds lazily, looking back to the green onions.

Aizawa looks on, seeing in Hibiki's body language that she doesn't like this woman. Hibiki decides on grabbing two green onion bunches, handing them to Aizawa before moving over to the mushrooms.

The woman sees the exchange. "Ah, you finally managed to get a husband, huh? You even have a little boy! So cute. I'm surprised you married someone so creepy though." Sakuni says, speaking of Hibiki. She looks at Aizawa, looking him up and down. "Though, you look pretty creepy yourself."

Aizawa turns to her with a red glare as his hair raises. "You can say whatever you want about me, but you can kindly shut the hell up if you want to talk shit about her. I don't know what pegs you to come over here and begin to be rude for no reason. Do you really have nothing better to do in your life? Get what you came here for and shove it up your–"

Hibiki covers his mouth with her hand. "Aizawa, it's okay, I'm used to it from high school. It doesn't bother me. Never did. I actually quite like the nickname. She's more of an annoyance really."

Sakuni gasps. "Annoyance!?"

Hibiki rolls her eyes and looks to her old kind of bully. "Listen, Aizawa isn't my boyfriend, he's my coworker if you must know. This little guy is my nephew. If you're going to shit talk about Aizawa, you will feel my wrath. I don't take kindly to you talking bad about people I care about."

"Jeez, calm down. I–"

She gets cut off by a plant wrapping itself around her and covering her mouth. She squeals and squirms trying to get out of it.

Hibiki gasps, looking down at Ren. Aizawa immediately uses his quirk on the boy, making the plant disappear into nothingness.

Ren looks confused about why his quirk isn't working. "Huh?"

"Ren, you can't be doing that."

He looks up to her. "But she was being mean to you... I was rescuing you... like a hero would."

Her face softens, pulling him into a hug. "I love you. Thank you, Ren. We'll talk about this before bedtime, okay?"

He nods.

"Hibi-senpai!" Ojiro calls out, running up. He looks confused about what he just entered into. He tilts his head at Aizawa. "Sensei? What are you doing here?"

"Sensei?" Sakuni questions, fixing her disheveled appearance after being attacked by a plant. She didn't seem to hear the small conversation between aunt and nephew. "This hobo of a man is a teacher? Wait, you're a teacher of all things?" She laughs, looking to Hibiki. "I guess you would choose such a lousy job."

Ojiro looks slightly angry and moves to talk. Hibiki uses her hand to cover his mouth too.

"Guess not everyone can have a good job like you," Hibiki responds.

"Oh, dear, I don't work. My husband does that. He makes six figures."

Aizawa snorts, knowing Hibiki makes way more than that just by being the number 6 hero.

"Wow," Hibiki says sarcastically. "Anyway, Mashichan? Did you get everything you wanted?"

He nods, bringing the basket around. "Yeah."

"Good." She grabs a container of mushrooms, tossing it into the cart along with the green onions Aizawa was holding. "Aizawa?"

"I already got everything I needed," he says, showing her the basket full of apple sauce pouches.

Hibiki smiles at Sukuni. "It was nice to see you again." Her smile becomes terrifying, scaring her. "Let's never do this again, okay?" Hibiki says with a ridiculously sweet tone.

All Sakuni can do is nod before quickly running off.

Aizawa grins. "I like the creepy smile you have. Scared the hell out of her."

She smirks. "Thanks."

Ojiro looks back and forth between them. "Uh?"

"Oh, Mashichan, Aizawa is going to join us for dinner, okay?"

"Uh, yeah, okay."

They wait for Hide to arrive before they head over to checkout, paying for everything then heading to Hibiki's penthouse.

"So, who was that?" Aizawa asks.

"A try-hard bully from high school. She's actually the one to come up with my nickname," the female pro answers. "I continued to scare the shit out of her when I entered the room silently. My seat was behind her. She never heard me coming." She giggles. "It was thoroughly entertaining. She ended up thinking my quirk was to not make any sound. I didn't correct her, so everyone from high school has no idea I'm Echo."

"I don't like her," Ojiro states.

Hibiki laughs. "No one really did. She's always been kind of the spoiled rich girl."

The group of five gets into the elevator of the complex, taking it all the way to the top floor after Hibiki swipes her pass. They step out into a small foyer with doors in either direction. She heads to the left and takes out a key to open the door in front of them. They exit the foyer into the penthouse.

Aizawa looks around. Hibiki shuts the door behind them. Ojiro, Ren, and Hide shuffle off their shoes and makes their way to drop off the groceries in the kitchen before going to the living room. The two adults take their shoes off as well, placing them on the shoe rack.

(Replace suite 4's couch with another bed. Suite 4 is Hideki's room. Ojiro's room is suite 2. Ren takes suite 3 or sleeps with his brother.)

Aizawa follows Hibiki into the kitchen, still looking around at the large place. "You seriously live in this big place all by yourself?"

"Usually. I have my nephews sleepover a lot, so they stay in the extra rooms. They even have their own clothes and whatnot here," Hibiki says, digging into the groceries to start making dinner. "Two of the rooms are specifically for Mashichan and Hide. Ren uses the last one if he's ever over."

He sits down at the bar, watching her effortlessly move around the kitchen. He won't admit it, but he did miss her once he was finished healing. He missed seeing her moving around the kitchen in his house and taking care of him. He missed seeing her every time he woke up. He pauses his train of thought. Why do I miss her so much?

Meanwhile, Ojiro was panicking a bit. He had the tv in front of him on, but he wasn't paying any attention to it like Ren and Hide were doing. He was on his phone, texting the class group chat.

Ojiro:
You guys won't guess what's going on right now!
I'm kinda freaking out!

Mina:
You got some tea for us, Ojiro?

Ojiro sighs.

Ojiro:
Yes.

Kaminari:
Then spill it man!

Ojiro:
Echo invited me to stay over at her
place until my parents come back
from their trip

Ochaco:
That's really cool, Ojiro!

Sero:
Is that really the tea you had for us?
Kind lame tbh

Iida:
That's very generous of her!
As expected of the number six hero!

Ojiro:
No! I wasn't finished!
Anyways! We went to get groceries to make dinner
And guess who we ran into!

Jiro:
No idea

Mina:
WHO?!

Kaminari:
Come on, don't keep me guessing!

Ojiro:
If you would let me type!
Aizawa sensei!

Tsu:
Why would that be freaking you out Ojiro?

Ojiro:
She invited him to have dinner with us! He's over at
the house now!
They're chatting in the kitchen!

Mina:
Oh?

Shoji:
What's weird about that?
They do work
together after all.

Ojiro:
He's smiling...

Mina:
OMFG!!!!!

Everyone is typing...

"You look better," Aizawa voices, taking in the smile Hibiki has on her face.

"I went to talk to Bakugo's parents to apologize personally. They ended up comforting me instead," she sheepishly admits.

"How do they feel about all this?"

"They're scared, but they're not too worried. They believe we'll get him back."

He doesn't reply to that. "Do... you want some help?"

"I can clone myself. Besides, you're my guest. You just make yourself at home."

"Right."

"By the way... thanks."

"For what?"

"Defending me back at the grocery store. It... meant a lot... so thank you."

"Thank you as well then as you did the same thing."

Hibiki feels her face flush, so she keeps herself turned away to chop vegetables.

"Aww! They're so lovey-dovey and they don't even realize!" Mina squeaks.

Ojiro has been secretly recording on a video call with the class as per Mina's and almost everyone's request. The only ones not on call were obviously Bakugo, then Midoriya and Momo.

"Damn, how does someone who looks like that get a babe like Echo!" Mineta complains.

"I'm sure if Aizawa sensei cleaned up and tried, he'd probably look really nice, ribbit," Tsu informs.

"I could see that," Sero says.

"Boys!" Hibiki calls for the three, scaring Ojiro a little. "It's time to eat. You ready?"

"Oh, uh, yeah!" He hangs up the phone and heads over to the dining room table.

~~~
Ojiro remained fairly silent for most of dinner, just watching his two teachers interact. Aizawa seemed to really enjoy her company, barely even realizing that Ojiro and the siblings were there.
"Guess I should go," Aizawa says, looking at the time on his phone. "It's almost time to patrol."
"Yeah, you're not going out and patrolling in this," Hibiki says, looking out the window. "It's raining buckets out there. You're not going out in a thunderstorm. You're going to get sick, and we really can't be having you get sick at a time like this."
He sighs with an eye roll. "Okay, dear," he sarcastically replies.
Ojiro's eyes widen as he gives a small jerk in surprise. He doesn't notice, but the fluff on his tail fluffs up like a cat.
"Ha. Ha. You're so damn funny," Hibiki scoffs. "You can take one of the spare bedrooms here. Ren, you can sleep with your brother tonight, okay?"
"Okay."
"It's fine. I can manage on my own," Aizawa says. "I won't get sick from some rain, that's just a stupid tv trope."
The heroine's eyes narrow at him. "If you can take me down in a fight, I'll let you go. How about that?"
He gives an annoyed grunt. "That isn't exactly fair. You've been a martial artist all your life."
"So, you're saying that she could easily kick your butt?" Hide chuckles.
"Ren, go show Aizawa his room for tonight please," Hibiki nudges Ren forward.
He nods, shuffling over to Aizawa and grabbing a few of his fingers in his tiny hand. Aizawa sighs, letting himself be pulled away by the small child. Hibiki chuckles as Aizawa's a bit slumped over as he's dragged away.
Ojiro immediately texts the group chat of the update. His phone blows up with messages again. It's a nice distraction from the whole Bakugo situation. That is currently not on any of their minds because of this excitement.
"Alright, I'm gonna put Ren to sleep then head to sleep myself. You boys can stay up longer if you want," Hibiki yawns. "Try not to make too much noise. I am sensitive to that."
The two teens nod. "Yes, ma'am."
She moves to Ren's room to find Ren showing Aizawa a few drawings he's done.
"Ren, it's time for bed. I've had you up longer than I should've. Get Chiko, and I'll get your other things."
He puts his drawings back on his art table and grabs his stuffed bunny, Chiko. "Goodnight, Aizawa-san."
The male hero smiles. "Night kid."
Ren shuffles out the room into Hide's room.
"Here, let me change the sheets real quick. Ren is a very clean kid, but who knows what food crumbs could've gotten in here."
"You don't have to do that," Aizawa says.
Four clones come into the room with clean sheets.
"Guess it's a good thing that I don't have to," she jokingly responds.
The four quickly change the sheets and pillowcases before disappearing with the dirty ones.
He nods. "Thank you."
"Anytime," she responds, gathering Ren's blanket and pillow. "Ren is starting to warm up to you. He doesn't show others his art unless he really likes you. I'm glad." She smiles as she moves over to the dresser and pulls out some pajamas. "It seems that we continue to end up hanging out together. And... I actually really enjoy spending time with you, Aizawa."
He feels a pulse thump through his body as he looks at her with a bit of surprise. "I... do too."
"I'm glad," she responds, closing the drawer and turning to him. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow morning. Goodnight, Aizawa."
"Uh, yeah, goodnight."
She quietly shuts the door behind her as she gives him a big smile. "Sweet dreams." And she's gone.
Aizawa stands stiff, eyes not leaving the door. He sighs, shaking his head. "Pull yourself together Shota. What is wrong with you...?" He turns off the lights and shuffles over to the bed in the dark. He plugs in his phone into his charger and settles himself under the covers. The underground pro immediately falls asleep in the comfy bed.
