✧Wei Ying - Memory✧

A/N- Sorry if my writing isn't the best today, I'm sick so I may not be focusing as much on it as I usually do.

"MO XUANYU!"

"Wei Ying!"

"Mo Xuanyu!"

Names rolled around in Wei Ying's head like rocks on a smooth surface. He struggled to keep his mind clear due to the constant noise.

"Please," he heard himself whisper. "Lan Zhan... take me back..."

Who was Lan Zhan? He remembered a face, quickly fading but still visible, of a handsome young man in Lan clan robes. Gusu robes. He was smiling at him... why was he smiling?

"Are you Lan Zhan?" he asked the figure in Gusu robes.

The figure disappeared, and when Wei Ying's eyes opened, he forgot everything.

"Lady Jiang! A man calling himself Mo Xuanyu is here to see you!"

Jiang Yanli looked tiredly up from her embroidery and met the eyes of one of her servants, who looked concerned. Yanli understood why the young woman looked concerned. Lately, due to the death of her brother, Yanli hadn't been taking very good care of herself. Due to this, she had lost a lot of weight, and had dark circles under her eyes from not sleeping. She had also stabbed herself multiple times while sewing, so now her blood was all over her otherwise neat and beautiful embroidery piece.

"Tell him I'll be there in a moment," Yanli responded, staring back down at her embroidery. She had no wish to see anyone currently, much less a stranger she didn't know.

When she picked her needle back up again, the servant chided her.

"My lady, it is not virtuous to leave a visitor waiting."

Yanli wanted to stab her servant. How dare this girl who was so obviously beneath her lecture her on virtue? The audacity she had!

She clicked her tongue judgingly at the woman and said, "Not obeying the orders of your superior is also not virtuous. Go tell him I'll be there in a minute."

"But my lady... Mo Xuanyu is Wei Wuxian, your brother."

Yanli dropped her embroidery in shock. Wei Wuxian? Her A-Xian? No, it couldn't be possible! He had died...

"I don't trust you. You're just trying to trick me," she snapped at her servant.

"Lady Jiang," a deep, light, familiar voice said. "It is a pleasure to meet you."

Yanli looked up, and met the dark eyes of her brother.

"A-XIAN!" she screamed in shock.

"A-Xian?" Wei Wuxian said, sounding confused. "Why do you refer to me in that way? To my knowledge, we've never met."

Yanli's spirits were crushed once again.

My brother doesn't remember me... she thought as tears began to run down her cheeks. My A-Xian has forgotten me!

Jiang Cheng was having a terrible day.

First, he had to have a meeting with an emissary from the Lan clan, arguing about where Wuxian's ashes should be placed- the Lan emissary said that Lan Wangji should have them because he was Wuxian's husband, and Jiang Cheng argued that the Jiang clan should have them because they were Wuxian's adopted family.

That meeting had been interrupted by his sister, Jiang Yanli, rushing in and sobbing over how her A-Xian didn't remember her. That led to investigation, and that led to the discovery that Wuxian was somehow alive again and didn't remember that Yanli or Cheng were his siblings.

"Do you remember your husband, Lan Wangji?" the Lan representative had asked.

Wei Wuxian froze and was silent for a while. Tears began to rush down his cheeks.

"Hanguang-jun..." he whispered. "I-I remember him, b-but he's not my husband... he... he hated me."

The Lan clan representative didn't comment on that, just stayed silent. However, he did nod, in acknowledgement if nothing more.

"A-Xian... how much do you not remember?" Yanli asked her brother.

"I don't know... I don't know what I remember and what I don't... God, I don't know anything anymore!" Wuxian cried out.

Jiang Cheng's heart was filled with rage towards his brother. Foolishly, he reached out and slapped him across the face, yelling, "You idiot! I'll break your legs if you don't tell me what you don't remember!"

"I-I can't..." Wuxian sobbed. "How can I know what I've forgotten?"

"You stupid man," Jiang Cheng snapped, making his adopted brother cry more.

"Don't hurt him, A-Cheng," Yanli said to her brother. "He's suffering enough already."

"Why are the both of you against me?!" Jiang Cheng howled.

"We're not!" Yanli responded, but her brother had already ran out of the room.

~a week later because i'm too lazy to write an entire exposition up to this point~

You were walking around in Cloud Recesses after a visit to the library when you saw what you thought was a mirage.

Right in front of you, clear as day, Wei Wuxian was standing by the side of his sister Jiang Yanli. You blinked a few times to make sure you weren't seeing things, then rushed forward and embraced him tightly.

"N-no! Let go of me... I-I d-don't like it!" he howled, scratching at your arms with his fingers. "Shije! Shije!"

Yanli laid her hand on Wuxian's shoulder and whispered, "Shije's here."

Then to you, she said, "I'm sorry. Wuxian has lost all memory of you, and of Cloud Recesses in general. I had to drag him here against his will to come see Lan Wangji."

You looked at Wuxian with pity. The poor young man had already suffered enough for multiple lifetimes, and now he had suffered more?

"Poor Wuxian," you said sympathetically. "I'm Lan Y/N, Lan Wangji's older sibling. It's a pleasure to meet you. Do you want me to show you around Cloud Recesses?"

"Sure," he said hesitantly, looking at Yanli as if she was his mother and going to give him permission.

"Go with Y/N. They're a nice person. And they'll show you things you forgot. Maybe your memories will be triggered by being here. I'll go talk with the clan leader and see what he has to say about us staying here. I'll see you later!"

Yanli skipped away, positive and happy as usual.

"Goodbye, Shije..." Wuxian said, sounding sad.

"You'll see her again later!" you said, trying to make him happy. "Come, let me show you around Cloud Recesses!"

You held out your hand, and he hesitantly took it. When he touched you, memories flowed back to him.

You were standing in front of him, wearing a beautiful hanfu and smiling. A paper talisman man on your shoulder read, 'Congratulations on your marriage!'

Next to you, a handsome man stood. Somehow, he was familiar to Wuxian...

The man in Gusu robes from the dream! This was him!

"Lan Zhan..." Wei Wuxian whispered, as his memories flowed back to him in unruly waves. "We were married... Hanguang-jun and I were married!"

You heard what Wuxian was saying and were filled with joy. He was remembering things!

"Yes, you were and still are married to my brother. Do you want to see him?" you asked.

Wuxian hesitated again before responding, "Yes. Please, take me to my husband."

The word husband seemed foreign on his lips, and you could see that he reacted with a small wince when saying it, probably because he wasn't used to saying that word about his husband. He would get used to it, you had faith in that.

"Come with me," you said.

Holding his hand, you led him to your younger brother's room, where you could hear him and Xichen- you recognized the voice of your older brother reflexively from hearing him talk for so many years- talking together. This time, you hesitated before doing the action you were going to do.

You opened the door and led Wuxian in.

"Wei Wuxian has come back home!" you announced.
