✧Lan Xichen- Sick✧
WHEN YOUR HUSBAND Lan Xichen came back from a night hunt in a particularly cold place, you could tell that he wasn't quite right. He seemed sluggish and feverish, and you urged him to get himself checked out by a doctor to make sure he was alright. He refused to do that, saying that he was just fine, and that you were worrying for nothing. He seemed to be getting better, and you believed that it could just be a fruitless worry, but then, one fateful day, something terrible happened.
You were in the library reading with Xichen when you heard a loud thump from next to you. Afraid, you spun around with your hand on your sword and saw Xichen lying unconscious next to you, his book falling from his extended fingers. You grabbed him to make sure he wasn't physically injured, and you felt that his skin was burning up. So your worries weren't fruitless, as you had thought! He was actually sick. Foolish man! Why didn't he take care of himself?
Half-carrying, half-dragging him, you brought him to Wen Qing's rooms. She laid him down on her bed and checked his temperature. She was shocked when she saw how high it was, and told you, "Y/N. Your husband has a 45 degree Celsius fever." (113 degrees Fahrenheit is 45 degrees in Celsius, right?)
"45 degrees! How in the world did he endure it for so long?" you cried out.
"I don't know, but he's not in good shape. I'll have to give him a lot of drugs to take his temperature down. If he would have gotten more rest rather than rushing around when he was sick, maybe he wouldn't be this bad," she mused.
Foolish Xichen, you thought, cursing his endurance in your head. If only you would have listened to me, and taken care of yourself, you wouldn't be like this!
You stayed by his bedside until Wen Qing kicked you out, saying that Xichen needed rest and that she'd call you when he woke up. One of your friends' rooms was close to Wen Qing's room, and you got her permission to sleep there on her mattress. You usually slept on a bed, next to Xichen, so sleeping on a mattress on the floor was different. You were appreciative of her sacrifice nonetheless. She had no other bed, so she had to sleep on the hard floor, but she said it was worth it to help a friend.
Due to the great amount of sadness and fear you were in, it was hard to sleep, but you dozed off eventually later in the night.

When you woke up, your back ached like hell, but you didn't mind. You had other things on your mind.
Right after you got dressed and made yourself up to look nice, you rushed to Wen Qing's room to see if Xichen was conscious. You were pleasantly surprised to see that she wasn't in at the moment, and that Xichen was sitting up in bed alert and conscious. When he saw you, he hung his head and looked guilty.
You're damn right you're guilty, you fool! Why didn't you listen to me? you thought
"Y/N," he said, his early morning voice deep and husky, and thoroughly attractive. "I'm sorry if I scared you yesterday."
"Scared me? Xichen, you terrified me! Why didn't you listen to me and get yourself taken care of? You have a 45 degree fever you idiot! You're practically dying and-"
You were silenced by Xichen's hot lips touching yours. You tried to protest, but as he grabbed you by the shoulders and pulled you into the bed, all you could do was whimper and try to hit him with your short arms.
"Why should I take care of myself when I have such a beautiful woman to do it for me?" Xichen murmured. The undertones in his voice were proposing dangerous things, but you wanted to respond to them in kind, and let him pin you down and love you in broad daylight, damn what everyone else said.
You heard Wen Qing clearing her throat behind you, and you jumped off of the bed with a blush on your cheeks, terribly embarrassed that you had been caught being intimate with your lover. Even if he was your husband, you were embarrased nonetheless.
"You need to stop exerting yourself, Young Master," she said to Xichen, her eyebrows raised.
"I'm going to die," you moaned like a high-school girl, burying your head in your hands. "I'm simply going to die."
"You're doing good. Your husband is still feverish, though, so I recommend that you leave him alone for the moment, unless you want to catch the fever he has," Wen Qing said.
You sighed and stood in the doorway of the room, looking at Xichen with sad eyes.
"I'm sorry," you told him.
"No," he said. "I'm sorry for not listening to you. If I had listened, I wouldn't be sick right now, and you and I would be able to love to our heart's content. Forgive me, my love. I will never make this mistake again."
You left your husband with the last sentence he said reverberating in your mind over and over.
I will never make this mistake again.
"You had better not!"
A/N- This Xichen oneshot is much better than the other one, at least in my opinion. I'm glad I could do him justice, he's such a cool character. I hope you enjoyed this oneshot! I'm not too familiar with his character but I think I did a good job nonetheless. Let me know what you guys think!
