Chasing the Dream
I was standing next to Stella, who was showing off her hideous new sweater made by Jaques Petite. I couldn't help but roll my eyes, Stella and I were both very into fashion, but unlike my sister, I was not swept away by just some title. I actually liked the style because it was nice not because it was popular.
I noticed the boys and quickly pulled my sister away from the crowd, "Hey guys."
Stella smiles at Joe before looking at both of the boys, "So, what do you think about my sweater?"
I wait for Kevin to do his hilarious high voice when he tries to lie at someone to be nice, "Ah. It is the most beautiful sweater I have ever seen in my entire life."
"Aww, thanks," she turned to Jow with her flirty eyes, "Joe?"
Joe eyed the sweater in disgust as Stella waited for him to fawn over the ugly thing, "Stella you know I love you, but that sweater looks like a peacock threw up on you."
I try to hide my snicker.
Stella scoffs, not listening to his comment, "This sweater was made by Jaques Petite. The most cutting edge designer coming out of France," Stella smirked, "Plus it is biodegradable."
"Great," Joe smiled, "So we won't feel bad about throwing it in the trash."
I eyed the sweater once again questioning why Stella would waste her money on the carpet with arms. It looked like grandmas's old purse with moss glued to the top and some animal teeth instead of buttons. Needless to say Jaques Petite, would not be getting anywhere near my closet, anytime soon.
Stella rolled her eyes, "What do you know?"
Nick ran up to us just in time to stop Stella and Joe from bantering, "I have bad news and it's not about Stella's horrible sweater," Stella looked hurt, "Margo had to cancel. She can't record with us tonight."
"She's my favorite backup singer," Kevin whined.
"She got a frog in her throat," Nick told him.
"There is a bug going around," Kevin sighed. I nod my head.
"No, she was swimming in a swamp and got an actual frog in her throat. She's at the clinic getting the frog out," Nick corrected Kevin.
I wrinkle my nose, "Who swims in a swamp?"
"What are we going to do?" Joe asked, ignoring my comment. "Melcom Meckle is coming to the studio to watch us record our track."
Kevin's eyes widen, "Melcom Meckle the president of our record label?"
Nick nods, "Yes, which means we need to find a replacement backup singer fast."
I bite my lip, beginning to worry about the guys. I know how important this record deal is, especially if the president is coming over.
I could see Stella looking at me, but I simply divert my eyes. I had the worst stage fright in the world when it came to singing. the guys didn't even know I could sing, because I refused to sing for anyone, not even happy birthday.
The only reason Stella knew I could sing is because she hears me in the shower sometimes since we share the same bathroom.
"Incoming," I hear someone shout before I see a ball fly past my face and hit Joe right in the nose before bouncing towards me. I try to catch it but drop the ball. Nick quickly picks it up and look at the source of this mess.
Macey was hurling through the halls in football gear, freaking out as she looked at Joe on the ground.
"oh, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," Macey said, as she tried to help Joe up, but instead backed onto Nick's feet. Stella and I wince as she head butts Kevin and hits Nick in the face once again. Stella quickly grabs her helmet to calm her down before she can hurt Joe again.
I quickly run up next to her, helping her calm Macey down, "Deep breaths. You are an amazing athlete but every time you run into a Jonas you become a hazard."
I turn to the boys, looking at Joe holding his eye and Nick...well Nick always looks like he is miserable, but I still knew that he was in pain.
"Let me take you to the nurse," I smile, waving goodbye to Macey.

We were all at lunch, and it was sloppy joe day, meaning that Stella and I watched the boys eat.
"How can you eat sloppy joe's?" Stella finally said, not able to look at them about to ruin their clothes. "I custom-tailored those uniforms. Do you have any idea how much one of those shirts cost?"
I wrinkle my nose in disgust watching Nick, greedily flatten the napkin holding his sandwich. I was a vegetarian, and as much as I would love to eat meat, the thought of it made me sick.
Joe, ignoring my sister, carelessly picked up his sandwich, causing all the meat to slip out right onto his pants. Nick and I share an amused glance while Stella looks like her head is about to blow up.
Joe rolled his eyes at us in annoyance, "What? I completely missed my shirt."
I smile at him, before noticing Kevin pulling a chair to sit between Nick and me, "Hey guys. I have told Macy, she can sing backup for our brand new song."
Joe ruining his expensive uniform was immediately forgotten as Stella spit out all her milk on Joe, "What?"
"Why would you do that?" Stella asked while I wave my hand towards an angry Joe, "I'll get that out with seltzer."
"Why not? It will make her dreams come true. Plus it would be so cool if a fan sings with us," Kevin told her.
"Way cool," Joe nods.
"Totally," Nick nods, taking a bite of his sandwich over the napkin.
"Look, Macy is my best friend. I love the girl, but she's a terrible singer," Stella said.
I nod my head thinking back to when Stella and Macey did karaoke.
"But she told me, she's really good," Kevin naively said.
"If she's that bad, why didn't you tell anything to her?" Nick asked.
Stella and I look at each other before saying in unison, "Because she's so sweet and sensitive and-"
"Yeah at your face. Next time I see you in the ice, I'm going to body slam you, until tomorrow, I will turn your head into a hockey puck!" Macy yelled.
"Good lungs. If she can carry out a tune, Kevin can make her sound awesome" Nick smiled.

Stella and I were listening to Joe and Nick rock out at the firehouse. Kevin had gone to listen to Macey and help her stregnthen her vocals. I began to tap my feet to the beat, when I saw Kevin walk in.
Stella looks up, "Hey. How did the music lesson go?"
Kevin laughs, "Good," Nick and I look at each other in shock, Kevin was able to help Macey sing well that fast?
Kevin's voice changes as he spits, "Awful."
Kevin sighs before sitting down next to me, "I wanted to be stright up with macey but I just couldn't."
I frown at the him, pulling him into a small side hug.
Nick looks at him expectantly, "Dude, it's not that bad, you just gotta phrase it right."
Kevin scoffs, "How? She is the worst singer, ever, singing in the history of worse singing."
Nick doesn't seem to care as he tells Kevin, "We cannot risk her singing in front of Malcom Meckle. This is gonna be his first time listeing to our new songs."
"We are trying to impress him," Joe adds, "not melt his brain."
Kevin nods, "You're right, she needs to hear the horrible earth shattering truth."
"I would just hate to be in your ballet slippers," Kevin leans into me.
I push him away from me, "No, no, no, no, no, no. No. No," I point my finger at all three boys before they trap me in their plan.
"This is not my problem this is your problem," Stella says.
"OK," Kevin sighs, "I need to tell Macey the truth."
"We will go in there for support," Joe nods.
"You are gonna need it," Nick says before beating on his drums.
Kevin sighs letting his head fall on my shoulder while I lean my own on his, stroking his back.

Stella had been forcing me to the firehouse. While the boys had a plan to not use Macey's voice, Stella had a new plan. One that included my voice.
Since I was too scared to sing around people, Stella had a plan to let Macey sing not knowing that her mic was off, while I hid in the other studio singing the song in a working mic.
It was a great plan, but I still did not want to be a part of it.
I huff once Stella locks the studio door, with a smirk. I was ready to scream for help when I saw Macey on the other side, in the studio next to me, happily looking at the boys. I couldn't let her down.
I took in a deep breath before singing.
"Living life, Life in the fast lane, Not that bad, No, we can't complain, Who's to say, That we won't keep it real, yeah Hold on tight, Don't you dare let go, Now's the time Let the whole world know, You can shine bright but still keep it real"
I open my eyes to see the guys looking at Macey in awe, while she just smiled. I couldn't help but feel happy for Macey while also feeling a bit jealous. How could Macey be so confident in her voice, good or bad?
I was so consumed in my thoughts that I didn't notice Nick, who had apparently seen me through Macey's room and had entered the studio.
I turn to look at him in shock, not knowing what to say, "Nick?"
Nick wasn't wearing the shocked expression I thought he would be, instead, he was smiling, looking at me in awe. "You can sing."
I open my mouth but no words come out, as I shake my head.
Nick laughs in awe, "I can't believe this. Why didn't you tell us."
I quickly snap out of whatever trance I was in and rush towards him, "You can't tell anybody, Nick."
Nick looks at me with a confused expression, "Why? Lola, you have an amazing voice."
I shake my head, "I don't want anybody knowing," I rush out feeling my heart begin to beat frantically at the thought.
Nick smirks at me, "I never thought that you would be nervous. The girl who has danced in front of hundreds of people."
I blush, sitting down on the floor, waiting for Nick to do the same, "That is different. That is like clockwork. Every step planned out, no stress, no emotion," I look up at Nick, "Singing is bearing your feelings to the world, with no idea how they will react. I ca-I d"
Nick raised his brows at my stuttering, "You're telling this to the Jonas who has a 'heart of stone'."
I laugh at his teen magazine quote, "You know that is not true, Nick. Plus that is different you are so confident when you perform."
Nick shakes his head, "When we first started off, I used to be so scared."
I look at him in shock, "What did you do?"
Nick smiled at me, "Don't laugh?"
I nod my head, leaning back on the studio wall, "I used to think about you."
I smile, looking at him in disbelief, " You are such a liar."
Nick nods his head, "It's true. I would imagine it was just like when we were kids and I would play on the drums while you danced around."
I smile, thinking back to those moments. They seemed so long ago, almost foreign to me now.
I turn to Nick, after realizing that we had been sitting in silence for a bit, "Promise you won-"
"Promise, Lola."
