8.) "I'm Edgeshot, the ninja hero! Hah! Hyaaaah!"
The next day began with Edgeshot observing Manami's quirk abilities.
Edgeshot really took to the whole 'ninja' aspect to him. Tatami mats for every room, the beds are basically yoga mats, and everyone is required to wear navy shinobi shozoku. Edgeshot got a dark ocean blue one made for her once she called him out at the sports festival. He wanted her there specifically because of the call-out.
After the quirk show-off, he decided that he'd have them battle.
He won, but barely. His usual tactics wouldn't work on her because of her water body. He'd get swirled around and cut through nothing. It's like none of her organs or innards exist. She's like fighting a ghost.
"You're trained."
"Yep!" She grins. "I'm taught by the Wild Wild Pussycats! As for my quirk, my brother and sister-in-law were the heroes Water Hose. They taught me what they could."
"You're definitely more powerful than all of them combined," he says. "Or at least will be in a few years maybe even months."
She smiles in response. "My quirk compared to my brother's was obviously more powerful. My father blasted water out using what was in the air around him. He could blast it like my brother just not as strong. My mother had the water body quirk. She naturally produced water but couldn't blast it, only little bursts. Kinda like a literal water hose. We both got a mix of the two, but I got the perfect mix of power."
"Are... the Pussycats... your caretakers?"
"My cousin is. She's Mandalay."
He nods his head. "I'm sorry for your losses. Go take a break. We leave for patrol in half an hour. Meet me on the roof in your hero suit."
She nods, skipping off to go find something to snack on.
...
The next day was the same as yesterday except they're actually going out today. Edgeshot started explaining what heroes do when not battling villains. Or... at least what he does. Not all heroes are the same.
"Normally, we would be patrolling once it's a bit darker out," Edgeshot informs. "But I want you to get a feel for the city first. We're actually quite a bit further out than I would normally go."
The two are currently on top of a rooftop. One of the many rooftops they've raced across in the past few hours of exploring the city and looking for trouble.
Manami was living large today. She was having way too much fun blasting around from rooftop to rooftop. Scooping up criminals here and there like ninjas. Never to be noticed and super quick. She was grinning ear to ear, squealing every once in a while usually when jumping a far distance.
Edgeshot paused at this one to give her some information dump about patrolling. He also needed a quick breather. His intern has way too much energy. He can't tell if that's cause she's young, because her quirk never stops giving, or maybe both. Probably both.
"I'm having so much fun!" Manami squeals, cutting off Edgeshot's thought process. "Thank you so much for interning me!"
He's once again cut off from responding by angry yelling.
"You dumb kids will never laugh at me again if you know what's good for you!" a familiar agitated voice screams.
Edgeshot leans over the side to see what all the yelling about is, finding a blond boy and an old friend.
Manami also peeks over the edge, her face lighting up as she spots her classmate. "Kats!" She, in one fluid motion, one-handedly flips off the top of the roof, gently landing with her quirk, and pounces on Bakugo's back. It surprises everyone around, Best Jeanist, the children being yelled at, Edgeshot, and especially Bakugo himself.
"What the hell?!"
"Kats!" She squeals, squeezing him and squishing her cheek against his own.
He freezes before grunting in annoyance and tries to shove her off him. "What the hell are you doing here, aquagirl?!"
She giggles, sliding off his back and kneeling down to the kids in front of him. "Is this grouchy guy being mean to you?"
"They were the ones being little shits first!" Bakugo shouts as the three kids nod.
"Don't pay him no mind. He's all bark and no bite," she giggles as Bakugo huffs and puffs behind her like some gremlin.
Best Jeanist watches in thought. Just when he couldn't figure Bakugo out a new factor adds herself in and makes it harder. Edgeshot makes his way down beside Jeanist.
"Hello, old friend."
Jeanist looks down at him. "Edgeshot... I assume she's with you?"
"Apologies, I didn't know she would leave my side so easily. I didn't think she would interrupt. She's behaved with me so far."
"She is still a child."
"Though, I could ask likewise to the loud boy. He yours?" Edgeshot replies, watching his intern calm the children down as Jeanist sighs in confirmation. She shows them little animals she's made with her quirk, making them giggle in awe. "Seems they're friends."
"How anyone is friends with Bakugo is beyond me," Jeanist sighs.
The three children give Manami hugs before they run off. She turns to Bakugo. "Did you have to make them cry? They're only kids."
"So what?!"
She pouts at him, crossing her arms. "How do you expect to be number 1 if you're so mean all the time?" That makes Bakugo shut his mouth. She smiles at him, patting his shoulder and looking down at the change of uniform. She circles him. "I like your jeans."
He scoffs. "Shut up."
The two pros decide to make their way up to them.
"Looks like I need to fix your hair again," Jeanist sighs at seeing the puffball.
Manami perks up. "Ah, Best Jeanist! Hi! I like your little zip-zip thingy with your quirk! Super cool! Oh! Wait! His hair? What's wrong with it?" She pouts her lips and looks at him in thought. "I like his poofy hair!"
"A hero needs to look professional to maintain a good appearance."
"Oh, well then, I can fix his hair." She looks around for a bench. "Ah, bench. Sit." She tugs Bakugo over to it.
"Go away!"
"I said sit."
He grunts and sits much to the surprise of Jeanist. Manami stands behind him, releasing her quirk to coat his hair and braiding it as she goes.
Her quirk slicks back the rest.
Jeanist blinks in shock. "He... He let you... without a fight..."
"There all done," Manami grins, moving to stand in front of him. "Aw, so handsome!~"
He averts his gaze with a huff.
"Care to tell me your name?" Jeanist speaks up.
Manami lets out a short quiet squeak in alarm, realizing her mistake. "Ah! Sorry! I didn't mean to waste internship time! I'm Izumi Manami! Kats is my friend."
"I'm not your friend!"
"You tamed his hair. Thank you," Jeanist says almost going to touch it only to decide against it and turns to Edgeshot. "You have a very sweet intern, old friend. How about we team up for patrol, so she can help me keep Bakugo in line?"
"Don't talk about me like I'm not here!"
Edgeshot smiles though you can only tell by the narrowing of his eyes, making it look like he's thinking about it. "I wouldn't mind. It'll give us a chance to catch up as well."
Manami beams. "Looks like we're together again!"
"Why do I always get fucking stuck with you?" Bakugo huffs. He glares at her. "You must have a second quirk that makes people unconsciously do what you want."
She laughs, smacking his back. "You're so funny!"
He grunts, catching himself before he falls. "I'm not fucking kidding."
She shrugs. "This'll be so much fun! Come on! Let's go! Let's go!"
Jeanist mumbles. "Opposites attract."
"I guess so," Edgeshot whispers back. "Wanna take the lead, senpai?"
"What were you doing previously?"
"We were traveling across the rooftops to get a feel for patrolling above."
"Ah, same, but from below and to make appearances," Jeanist replies. "She seems like she'd do well in that aspect and likewise with Bakugo up above. How about we meet up tonight to patrol?"
"Sounds like a plan."
They look to the giggling Manami and pouty annoyed Bakugo.
"It truly is a marvel watching the two of them," Jeanist comments. "She knows all the right buttons to push."
"She told me of her past endeavors," Edgeshot says. "When the USJ was attacked by the League of Villains. She's the one who took down the Nomu with equal power to All Might along with the leader. I wouldn't be surprised if your intern in his own way respects her. Nervous of her ability to overpower him if she wanted. She's hard to upset though. She's always so happy."
"She took down that monster?" His eyes widen in surprise.
"She's able to make herself grow to Mount Lady size if she absorbs enough water."
He looks back at the giggling water girl. "Phenomenal."
"I'll notify you later then," Edgeshot nods. "Tsunami, let's get going. We're going to meet back up with them later."
She salutes, skipping up to him after lightly pinching Bakugo's pouty cheek. "Ready!"
Edgeshot points upwards before vanishing and reappearing on the nearby building's roof. Manami waves the two remaining goodbye before blasting up after Edgeshot.
The two watch them leave. Jeanist then turns to Bakugo who's still staring at the roof they disappeared on.
Bakugo is quick to notice. "Whattaya looking at?!"
"I'm surprised someone exists that knows how to tame you."
"Tame me?! What am I a fucking pet?! Don't make me laugh! You getting delusional in your old age?!"
"Do you like her?" Jeanist teases.
"Like her? Ha! No! She's annoying! Always up in my fucking business!"
"We have a lot more area to cover before nightfall," Edgeshot mentions as she makes it to the rooftop.
"Edgeshot sensei?"
"Yes?"
"There's another reason why I wanted to intern with you."
"Oh? It wasn't just to make yourself needle thin?"
"Yes, but... Your quirk. You need to know pressure points, chi points, and each muscle in the body in order to easily take an opponent down. Right?"
He nods. "Yes."
"My quirk... I believe can also do something similar, but I need to know all of that first. Just researching it online isn't enough. The Pussycats can only teach me the powerful side of using my quirk. The brute strength and powerhouse. You can teach me a more gentle and thorough approach. The smarts. I want to better my quirk in a way other than powering through with it."
"I can do that."
~~~
After a longer view of patrol routes, Edgeshot brought them back to learn about the body while eating lunch.
She seems dazed at all the new info, burnt out from each little part of the body. "Ooooh..." Her eyes swirl.
Edgeshot chuckles. "Information overload. There's a lot. You'll get it in time. I'm willing to teach as long as you need me to."
"Thank you..."
"I'll lend you some of my books to take with you after. You can bring them back for your next internship with me. That's if you're willing to come back."
She perks up. "Of course!"
"You can become my partner once you graduate if you'd like. As long as I'm still around, I'd be happy for you to work here."
"Really?! Yes!" She fist pumps.
Edgeshot looks at the time on his phone. "Well, do you wanna continue here or would you like to start working on mimicking my quirk before night falls?"
Mana hums. "Mimicking your quirk. I need a break."
He chuckles. "Then let's go to the training room."
He leads her to a separate section of his agency. A large training room full of all sorts of different equipment that Mana honestly has no idea what most of it's for.
He has her show him how thin she can currently go, and they work on it from there.
Mana groans. "I can't go thinner!"
"Does it hurt if you try?"
"No, just won't."
Edgeshot hums, walking over to his phone. "Well, we have plenty of time to figure it out. Looks like night has fallen, and Jeanist is ready to meet up. You ready to go?"
"Always!"
He tells his assistant that they're heading off before they start to the meetup point.
"So, Tsunami, who's your friend?" Edgeshot asks to make conversation as they go.
"Kats? He's so cool! His quirk explodes from his hands! He's super strong. Oh! He sits directly behind me in class."
"He was your final opponent in the sports festival, correct?"
"Correctydiddlydoo."
He sweatdrops. "Right... He seems brash."
She nods. "Yep! Totally! But that's how he is! He's only good at loud feelings. Kinda like a tsundere!"
"Tsundere..."
"Yeah! But with no love interest." She grins. "Oh, a kamidere would work."
"Kamidere?"
"God complex. Thinks he's above everyone."
"Ah. You wanna be friends with a person like that?"
"He needs a friend. Even if he pushes me away and complains about it, I feel like he appreciates it." She shrugs. "I hope he does at least."
Edgeshot looks at her for a few seconds before focusing back on his route. He doesn't reply.
They continue to the meetup point, jumping from roof to roof and parkouring up the sides of buildings.
"Finally! What took so damn long?" Bakugo huffs once he spots them.
They land on the roof.
Manami bounces and lunges for a hug which Bakugo avoids. She pouts but leaves it alone. She'll get him to accept her hugs eventually.
"Bakugo, we've only been here for two minutes."
"Yeah, two minutes too many!"
Jeanist sighs. "You two ready to go?"
"Yeah!" Mana cheers.
"Night patrols are for silence," Edgeshot scolds.
"Yeaah!" Mana whisper cheers.
Edgeshot sighs.
"Which means no explosions until necessary," Jeanist says.
"Yeah, yeah, I gathered that."
Jeanist pulls out earpieces, handing one to each person. "We'll use these to communicate if we get lost from each other. It's preset to channel one."
Everyone places one in their ear. The pros nod to each other before darting off in the same direction.
"Kats! Put yours on channel two so we can chat!"
He scoffs. "Then we can't hear them."
"You will, but they can't hear us unless we hold the button down," she tells him. "I've used these before."
"Whatever." He does it anyway.
The heroes in training quickly follow after their mentors.
"How is interning with Best Jeanist?"
"Annoying. We haven't done anything exciting. He's trying to get me to behave or some shit. Whatever that fucking means..."
"Hmmm. Well, Edgeshot has been helping me with whatever I've asked so far. He's a super cool ninja master!"
~~~Elsewhere~~~
Kota was a quiet kid. A good kid, but quiet.
Aizawa would take him to school and pick him up. He'd try to ask him how Kota's day was even if he didn't really care. Aizawa wanted for the kid to be a kid. Kids aren't silent like this. Though he should probably be a little grateful for it. He likes his peace. Then they'd return to Aizawa's apartment, Kota would finish his homework, eat dinner, shower, then go to bed and repeat. Also a little teasing from Mic and Midnight. They poke fun at his fatherly side.
It was weird. Aizawa understood. Kota's aunt explained to Aizawa their past with Kota's parents.
The sad truth about it is that he may remember this now, but he won't remember a thing about them in the future. Only through photographs.
Kota has a resentment of heroes.
Aizawa gets it, but he also thinks his idea is twisted. He should be angry at villains so heroes wouldn't have to exist. Then nobody would get hurt.
It was the same routine every day until now.
Aizawa was still awake, grading papers when he heard a cry and scream from his guest room. He was already opening the door, scarf at the ready.
~~~Manami~~~
"Sounds like there's a police chase a bit away from us," Jeanist's voice comes over the earpieces.
They divert from their intended path straight towards the ringing of police sirens racing down the street. The four watch silently from above to gather their surroundings before making a move. It's only a few seconds, but that's all that was needed.
Manami manipulates the water in the sewer below to shoot out from the sewer cap right as the criminal's car goes over it. It flies into the air where Best Jeanist and Edgeshot catch it with their quirks. Bakugo grins threatening them with his quirk if they tried to get out.
The top of the car is ripped off and emerging from it is a man growing to a little over half Mount Lady's height. It gives time for the other members to rush out of the vehicle. A total of four men and a woman exit, spreading out and carrying bags of cash strapped around their waists.
"That's the giant villain Kamui Woods and Mt Lady took down a few months ago!" Edgeshot says.
"I got him!" Manami pops open a few nearby fire hydrants, increasing her size to be a bit bigger than the giant man.
Edgeshot and Best Jeanist look on in awe for a few short seconds before heading after the other escapees. Bakugo cackles and goes to take down whoever's left.
The giant villain looks at Manami in shock then growls. "Another hero who can grow big, huh? I'm really getting sick of that!" He lunges right fist first.
Manami dodges and grabs his arm using his momentum to flip him back first to the ground. She takes a page out of Kamui Woods' book and traps him in a water chain prison that gets tighter the more he struggles.
"Hell yeah, aquagirl! Here's another!" He flings his opponent straight into her which sucks in the criminal and spits him into the prison.
Best Jeanist and Edgeshot quickly finish with their own villains, the three wrapped in their own clothes. Edgeshot then thins out and enters the giant villain's chest to get him to pass out. The giant begins to shrink to his normal size.
They round the villains into one pile as Mana releases all the water into the sewers.
"Good work," Jeanist compliments the two teens.
Manami grins.
Then her phone goes off. She answers it immediately after seeing it was her teacher. "Aizawa sensei?"
~~~Aizawa:Kota~~~
Curled and rocking back and forth in the middle of the bed is a whimpering Kota. All the bedsheets and pillows are tangled on the floor. Kota is bunched with his hands over his head and eyes shut tight.
Aizawa's scarf drops back to his shoulders as he carefully steps forward. "Kota?"
He sees the boy flinch. "No!"
Aizawa reads the signs. "Kota, it was just a nightmare. It wasn't real. I'm Manami's teacher. I'm a pro hero."
"Manami?" he whimpers, slowly looking up. "I want Mana..."
"...Would you like to talk to her?"
He nods his head with a sniffle. Aizawa goes to leave the room but is grabbed by the sleeve of his shirt. "Don't go..."
Aizawa gently scoops the kid into his arms. "I'm going to get my phone to call Manami."
Kota buries his face into Aizawa's shoulder, squeezing as hard as he can. Aizawa takes them to the living room, sitting on the couch as he grabs his phone with Kota cradled in his lap. He pulls up Manami's number and calls, putting it on speaker and holding it close to Kota.
~~~Manami~~~
"Mana..." Kota's sniffles come over the speaker.
"Kota, what's wrong? Is everything okay? Where's Aizawa?"
Bakugo perks up at the kid's name and the worried tone of her voice. He unconsciously shuffles closer to try and listen.
Best Jeanist takes notice. Bakugo may be hardheaded, but he does care even if he would totally deny it. He glances at Edgeshot who looks at him, mouthing 'nephew.'
"I'm with him," Aizawa speaks up. "He had a nightmare and wanted to talk to you. I apologize if I woke you."
"No, I'm out patrolling," Manami responds. "Just took down some villains with Edgeshot, Best Jeanist, and Kats! Kota, what happened? What was your nightmare about?"
It's quiet only his sniffles. "I want... I want you to come home..."
"I will be in a few days. Can you be strong until then? Aizawa-sensei is super strong! He can show you! He won't let anyone hurt you, okay? You have nothing to worry about. I'm super strong too! I'll be alright too. I have Edgeshot and Kats with me!"
Bakugo snatches the phone from Manami's hand. "Oi, kid, we're working here. Man up. You're fine. Go back to sleep."
"Kats!" Manami scolds. "Don't be so hard on him!"
"It's just a nightmare! It's not real! Get over it."
"Bakugo. Give me my phone. Now."
"Tch." He drops the phone in her outstretched hand.
Best Jeanist bites back a grin. So he is scared of her.
"Why didn't... you tell me Muscular escaped?" Kota whimpers.
Manami freezes so does Aizawa. "H-How'd you find out?"
"It was on the tv..."
"That was my fault," Aizawa admits with an agitated sigh. "I had the news playing in the background. Didn't think it would play that or that he was paying attention."
"I didn't want you to know. You didn't need to know. It was better to not tell you and have this happen," Manami explains.
"Why? He killed my parents!"
"I know, but you didn't need to know."
"She was protecting you," Aizawa adds.
Kota grunts and sniffles. "I wanna go home."
"Soon. Then we can play all the water memories you want, okay?"
Another sniffle. "Okay..."
"Good. Think about happy memories, okay? I'll be back before you know it."
"You damn heroes!" the female of the villain group suddenly shouts, getting the four heroes' attentions. It seems she was waiting for more of her comrades to wake up to make a move.
"I love you, Kota! I gotta go!" She quickly hangs up and pockets the phone.
"Have a taste of this!" The villain's eyes glow and before anyone can do anything everything blurs for a few seconds for the heroes.
It's just enough for the not knocked out villains to escape.
~~~Aizawa:Kota~~~
"Water memories?" Aizawa mumbles to himself as he places his phone on the table.
"Mana says ...water has memory, so we have jars of... of when mom and dad were alive saved of memories. Only she can play them for me. She's... trying to teach me how to."
Aizawa stands up, propping Kota on his hip. "I'll have to have her show me later. Alright, let's get you back to bed."
"Will... you stay with me?"
"I need to finish grad..." his voice fades as Kota looks at him like a kicked puppy. He sighs. "Alright, just for tonight though."
Kota yawns, head falling onto Aizawa's shoulder as they head into Aizawa's room. "Okaay..."
~~~Manami~~~
Manami blinks a few times before realizing she feels taller and lighter on her feet. She raises a hand to hold her head as she closes her eyes to regain her senses.
"Why do I smell fucking jeans?!"
Manami opens her eyes and looks over as Best Jeanist cusses up a storm about jeans. "Huh?"
Bakugo looks up to Best Jeanist. "Oh, not good."
"Why is half my vision blocked?" Manami questions before going to grab only to feel hair. Actual hair. The feeling of her quirk was gone. "My quirk!"
"Calm down."
She looks to find herself standing beside her. "...What?"
"It seems we've switched bodies."
Manami looks at her hands to find herself in Edgeshot's hero suit. "Whoa... Wicked!" She does some cheesy karate moves with sound effects. "I'm Edgeshot, the ninja hero! Hah! Hyaaaah!"
Best Jeanist snickers. "It's odd seeing your body do that, old friend."
"Could say the same with the cussing storm yours is doing," Edgeshot retorts.
"Ah, yes... Bakugo quit making a scene in my body. We need to keep up appearances."
It seems the pro heroes have switched bodies with their interns.
"This may actually be a good opportunity," Edgeshot says, getting annoyed looks from the 'Bakugos.' "Maybe not for the two of you, but for us." He taps his intern's shoulder from her ninja trance. "Now, you should be able to get a feel of how my quirk works and then apply it to yours once we switch back to normal. Likewise, I can see if your quirk will be able to mimic my own."
Manami then smiles with the biggest grin though no one can see it. "That's an awesome idea!"
"Well, I'm glad the two of you are soooo fucking happy about this shit arrangement! I don't wanna fucking be this–"
"Be very careful with your next words," Jeanist cuts him off with a warning.
Bakugo snarls, crossing his arms in a huff. Jeanist sighs.
"Cheer up Bakugo! Now you get to be super tall!"
"Stupid hair! Stupid jeans!" he huffs, tugging at the slicked blond hair.
"Stop messing up my hair!" Jeanist shouts, blinking at himself in surprise after the outburst. "Oh, I understand now why you're always shouting. It's related to your quirk. It... feels good?"
Bakugo scoffs, rolling his eyes. "More like you don't do it enough in yours."
Jeanist clears his throat. "Well, it seems we need to cut patrol short. We're in no condition to continue. I suggest we recuperate to prepare for the headache tomorrow."
"Agreed," Edgeshot nods.
Mana squeals, bouncing to Bakugo. "You're so tall even when I'm a little taller than normal! Aren't you even a little excited?!"
"Fuck no. The only body I wanna be in is my own!"
"We will get our sidekicks on rounding up the escapees," Edgeshot says. "Meanwhile, let's take this chance while we have time. I don't know how long the effects will last, so we need to take action before it's too late to practice. Tsunami, let's return to my agency."
She salutes then waves Bakugo goodbye before she follows behind him. "Byeee!"
~~~
Edgeshot's assistant aka secret girlfriend volunteered to help out by lying on the ground to be their practice body. Her name is Pixie.
After much training and explanations of using one another's quirks, the two have decided they felt confident enough to practice.
"We're going to enter her body, and I'll show you chi points and flow up close."
"You sure you can make yourself as thin as before?"
"If I wasn't confident we could do this, we wouldn't be doing it. Your quirk in relation to mine is completely doable. You have the feel for my quirk now, so when we switch back you'll be able to apply it to your own," Edgeshot says. "Now, let's go." He thins and she follows.
"Behind you."
He explains everything and how it works, going around each area then repeating it and asking her questions to see if she remembers. She seems to do better visually than working out a book.
"You never actually told me what you wanted to learn this for," Edgeshot brings up after another info dump.
She looks a little sheepish. "I... want to use my quirk to heal."
"Heal?" he says a bit surprised. "You can do that?"
"I'm not sure, but I think I can use water as a catalyst to manipulate the energy paths in the body to concentrate and redirect energy onto the wounded area to accelerate the healing process."
He just blinks in surprise. He's never heard her use such... big words. He didn't think she would. She just keeps surprising him. "That's some thought."
"It's why I asked you cause I need a good understanding of chi and energy paths in the body to do it."
"Why do you want to heal others?"
"So I'm able to save and rescue people more than just being another hero."
~~~
It's a few hours later when an actual issue comes up, and it doesn't have to deal with quirks... just the typical human body.
"Um... Edgeshot... I think we have a problem..."
"And what is that?"
She sighs embarrassed. "Well, I think I need to pee..."
His face scrunches. "Ah... right... What do you mean you think?"
Her cheeks become rosy an odd expression for Edgeshot to see on his own face. "My... quirk kind of takes care of that for me by filtering out... fluids when I feel the need to cleanse myself... which is usually what I do before I sleep. So, I don't actually need to use the bathroom... I was born like this, so I never really went."
"Ah." He really doesn't know how to approach this. On one hand, she's him, so he could go to the bathroom with her and help, but that'd be completely illegal from an outside perspective. He also can't just let her go alone. He'd rather not have her see. It'd also technically be illegal. He's at a loss. "Pixie! I'm gonna need to ask you a really awkward favor..."
Pixie giggles as she walks into the room, already hearing what was going on. "I knew this was gonna happen at some point!"
...
The next day Edgeshot felt safe enough to go out on a night patrol as each other. He was confident in her ability of control with his quirk. They worked on them all day.
There wasn't anything that really happened through the patrol except a mugger or two. Quick and easy.
Manami was broken from her patrol trance by a ding of her phone. She pulls it out to find Midoriya messaged the class group chat his location with no followed explanation.
"What's wrong?" Edgeshot asks, noticing her confused expression.
"My classmate just sent the class chat his location. Looks like he's in Hosu for his internship," she answers. "That's weird. I don't think that's where he was supposed to be."
"Maybe he accidentally sent it?"
"I don't know. Midoriya doesn't usually do something unless it's important."
Edgeshot nods in thought, pulling out his phone. "Well, let me see if I can get some info." He calls his agency.
Manami decides to search up Hosu live news on her phone. Many live feeds pop up in varying titles but all with one familiar piece. League of Villains. "Edgeshot, I think Midoriya's in trouble."
"I've heard the news. Endeavor is there. We're too far from Hosu. We'd get there too late. I don't think it'd be a good idea to go in this state anyway."
Manami nods sadly, sending a quiet prayer. "Please be okay everyone."
...
The next day...
Edgeshot and Manami have returned to their bodies overnight. It was such a relief that Mana melted to the floor for an hour in contentment only after grabbing her phone from Edgeshot's quarters. They thought it best to sleep in their bodies rooms. She was only stirred from it when Midoriya messaged her. She pulls her phone to her using her quirk and pops her head from her puddle to read. She calls him immediately after she reads it.
She doesn't even let him get out a hello before she bombards him with questions. "Mido! Are you okay?! What happened?! I saw the news this morning! You didn't get hurt, did you?"
"M-M-Mido?!"
"Yeah, answer my questions!"
"J-Just a few cuts," he answers. "Todoroki and Iida were with me. We managed and are resting at Hosu General." He goes on to explain what happened about Nomu, Stain, and how Endeavor took them down.
Mana sighs in relief. "I'm glad you're okay. Rest up then. I'll see ya in a few days!"
"Thanks. Bye, Izumi."
A short knock comes from her door as she hangs up. "Izumi? It seems we've finally switched back. Are you alright? You haven't left your room for breakfast yet."
She uses her quirk to open the door, looking up at him from her puddle. "Yeah, I'm good. Happy to be back in my body."
He blinks down at her. "Is... this normal for you?"
"Yeah, sometimes it's easier to destabilize and just be a puddle."
"Well, get stabilized, and let's get some breakfast. We're going to see if you can apply my quirk to yours now that we've switched back."
She nods, saluting. "Hai!" She pulls herself from the puddle into her normal shape and follows him out the room.
"Now that I think about it, I recall you did the puddle ability during the battle you called out to me. How'd you learn you could do that?"
She shrugs. "I've always been able to do that. I would usually do it when I fell asleep when I was little, according to my brother. Freaked him out." She laughs then sadly sighs.
"Miss him?"
"Yeah, sometimes... So what's for breakfast?"
~~~
Edgeshot smiles though no one could see. He was proud of his little intern. She's improved so much. He watches as she shouts in happiness as she dances around the room in her new super-thin form.
"You've done it," Edgeshot nods. "Congratulations, now let's get those chi and energy flows perfected."
She reforms and salutes. "Aye, aye, captain!"
...
Internships were now over. It was time for Manami to return home and go back to UA. Edgeshot didn't show it, but he's sad the internship was over so soon. Manami really grew on him like a little sister. He's gonna miss her.
But not as much as she's gonna miss him.
"Waaaaah! I don't wanna go yet!" she cries, big tears running down her face that're multiplied by her quirk. A giant puddle is forming underneath them. Her arms are tightly wrapped around his torso as Bakugo tries to pull her off.
"Let go, you blue crybaby!" Bakugo shouts. "We're gonna miss the damn train!"
Best Jeanist brought Bakugo over so the two UA students would be on the same train. He was enjoying watching the two teenagers interact. She was a good match for his intern. She's definitely what he needs to calm down. They're complete opposites, but they complement each other perfectly. He hopes his intern realizes that too... someday.
"I had so much fun and learned so muuuuuch!"
"Next internship you can come back," Edgeshot tells her, patting the top of her head.
She immediately lets go, making Bakugo stumble and fall with her smushed on top. She quickly gets up with sparkling eyes and clasped hands. "You really mean it?!"
Edgeshot sweatdrops. "Yes. I told you I would before."
She blinks. "Oh. Yeah."
"Dumbass!"
Best Jeanist chuckles. "The two of you should get going."
"Right. Thank you!" She bows.
"Here. Some of my chi books." Edgeshot says, presenting her a bagful of books.
She smiles, scooping it out of his hand and shouldering it. "Arigato gozaimasu!" She bows.
Bakugo snarls, grabbing the back of her collar. "Let's go already!"
She waves to the pros with a loud "Goodbye!" as she lets Bakugo tug her into the train cart to a seat.
"You're such a sap," Bakugo huffs, leaning into his seat.
She finally gets a look at him with his hair all brushed and gelled down. She makes a grossed out scrunched up face. "No."
"No?" He looks at her in amusement about to argue only for it to shift in anger. "What the fuck is that face for?!"
"I don't like your hair like that," she shakes her head no and crosses her arms in an X shape.
"It's fucking stuck like this!"
"Pft!"
"Don't fucking laugh, or I'll kill you!"
"I'd like to see you try 'splody!"
"What the fuck is that name?!"
...~~~...
Pixie was a random OC that I might one day write a Edgeshot book for who knows.
Sorry for how late this is. My time awareness is way different than a normal person's. A year for you is like 3 months to me.
