Manami, the girl of water, has been training for this very moment. She looks up at the large hero school in front of her, determined. She nods with a big smile on her face as she happily skips inside. She finds the seat she was assigned for taking the test and sits. There's 10 minutes left until it's time to start.

"Ah, Izumi, I guess I should of expected you to be here. You were the strongest in the school."

Manami looks to her seatmate beside her. "Ah, I recognize you! You went to Somei, right?"

"Indeed, I did. I'm Iida Tenya."

"Nice to meet you, Iida! Your brother is Ingenium, right? You following in your family's footsteps?"

"I am."

"That's so cool! I guess you could say I'm following in my brother's footsteps too!"

"Oh? Who's your brother?"

"Ah, he was Water Hose with his wife. They weren't very popular or strong heroes, but they got the job done."

"You talk of them in the past tense, are they no longer with us?"

"They were killed a few years ago by a villain known as Muscular."

"I'm sorry for your loss then."

"Thanks. It doesn't really bother me all that much though. I was never really close with my brother. He was always off heroing. His wife, I was closer with as she would take care of me and their son once he was born."

"And... your parents?"

"Killed in a villain attack when I was young. My brother took care of me ever since then. Now it's just me and Kota. He's my nephew, but he's more like a little brother!" She smiles then gasps. "Oh no! What if our family is cursed, and I'll be killed once I have children?! Oh god! I'll never have children!" She tears up. "Man, I really wanted to have a big family too... Ah! This is awful! I–"

"Calm down!" Iida cuts off her rambling with awkward arm chops. "I'm sure that's not going to happen! You're really strong. I don't think you'll ever be taken down."

She tears up more. "You really think so? Iidaaa! You're so nice! Thank you!"

He sweatdrops.

Present Mic enters and stands at the podium. Once time rolls around, he begins. "What's up UA candidates? Thanks for tuning into me, your school DJ! Come on and let me hear ya!"

"Yeaaaaaaaah!" Manami shouts happily.

The whole room seems to sweatdrop.

"Ah, yeaaaah! Someone's ready for a fun time! Alright, I'll skip to the main show. Let's talk about how this practical exam is gonna go down, okay? Are you ready?!"

"Yeaaah!"

Manami's the only one to respond again except... a green haired boy with freckles who's fanboying and mumbling all about Present Mic.

"Will you shut up," the blond beside him grumbles annoyed.

Mic begins to explain how everything will work after they take the written exam. Everyone will be separated into battle areas A through G to take the physical part.

Mana looks to her card to read battle area A. "Iida, I got A which one did you get?"

"I got B. I believe that they're splitting up schoolmates, so they can't work together," Iida mumbles.

Mic goes on to explain about the three robots you have to deal with and also that you can't harm other examinees.

Iida suddenly stands up. "Excuse me sir! I have a question!"

Mic points at him. "Hit me!"

A spotlight falls on the bluenet. He points to a piece of paper with four robots. "On the printout, you listed four types of villains not three. With all respect, if this is an error on all UA materials, it is shameful. We are exemplary students, we expect the best from Japan's most notable school. A mistake such as this won't do." He stops then harshly turns and points at the green haired boy. "Additionally, you with the unkempt hair!"

The greenet points at himself. "Muh?"

"You've been muttering this entire time," he says. "Stop that. If you can't bother to take this seriously, leave. You're distracting the rest of us."

Everyone around begins to giggle.

"Sorry..." he mutters quietly.

"Alright, alright, examinee number 7111. Thanks for calling out your request," Mic says, calming everyone down. He then proceeds to talk about the final robot that doesn't cost any points. He says to avoid it as it doesn't cost any points. "You ready to go beyond? Let's hear a 'plus ultra'!"

"Plus ultraaaa!" Mana shouts.

"Alrriiiight, that's what I like to hear!"

After that, all the packets for the written portion are given, and they begin the first part of their exam.

After the test is over...

"Ughh! That was so hard!" Mana exclaims, slumping on the desk in front of her.

"Really? I thought it was rather easy," Iida claims.

"Of course you did you're like super smart!" Mana huffs.

"Well, I have no doubt that you will pass," Iida says. "Now, we must part. Hopefully we will both get in so that we may see more of each other."

"Yeah! Bye Iida!"

The two separate, going to the buses that'll take them to their battle areas.

Mana ends up being the last on the bus and sitting next to a spiky haired blond boy. It seemed that no one else wanted to sit next to him.

"Tch."

"Hi! I'm Izumi Manami! What's your name?"

"What's it matter to you? Not like we're ever gonna see each other again."

She blinks. "Well, if we both make it, we'll possibly be classmates!"

"I know I'm going to make it. You on the other hand who cares."

"What's your quirk? Mine is–"

"I don't care, and I didn't ask."

She pouts. "Someone's a little grumpy today."

"Shut up, you annoying extra!"

She laughs. "You're funny."

"I'll show you funny! I'll kick your ass!"

She blinks. "I thought we were fighting robots not each other?"

"No, not—Are you fucking stupid?"

She shrugs. "Maybe sometimes."

"Fucking weirdo."

The short trip to the battle area is finished and out go the hopefully future students. They all crowd around the entrance, waiting to be allowed to go in. In the meantime, they stretch and warm up.

"Well, good luck!" Mana grins.

"I don't need your shitty luck," he scoffs, stomping off to stretch alone.

"Oof, tough crowd," she sighs, following him. "I've decided."

"Why the fuck are you still following ya blue stalker?!"

"I've decided that you're going to be my friend."

"I don't wanna be friends with a weird extra like you."

"That's too bad. I already like you."

"Alright, little listeners! Are you ready to begin?!" Mic's voice comes on over the speakers in the area. The large door to the area opens before them. "Begin!"

"Don't have to tell me twice!" the blond boy grins, releasing big explosions behind him to propel him in front of everyone.

Mana's eyes seem to sparkle. "So cool! Alright!" She blasts water out from her feet and follows behind him. She veers off a bit from him to slice through some robots with her water swords and manages to get two 3 pointers, four 2 pointers, and seven 1 pointers. She ends up being by the explosion boy. "Ne ne, new friend!"

"Why are you still following me?!" he shouts, blowing up some more. "And I'm not your fucking friend!"

"Didn't mean to! Just ended up here!" she replies. "Ah, watch out!" She moves quickly and slices her blade through a big piece of building falling toward him.

"I had it handled!" he shouts. "Ha! What a lame power! Water swords?! You gotta be joking!"

She doesn't correct him and watches him in awe as he blows up more robots. The way he moves and uses his quirk is incredible.

"You're pretty cool, bomb boy!" she smiles as she returns to slice some robots.

"Shut up!"

A few minutes later, the giant robot emerges from its pit.

"Whoa! That's a big robot!"

"Move you idiot!" bomb boy shouts, running away. "It's a waste of time!"

Mana grins. "I'm gonna slice it!" She merges her swords together and makes it bigger and bigger until it's the size of the robot. She then heats it up to boiling hot. "Wooo!" She rushes towards it, blasting water out from her feet to get above then brings down the giant sword. It splits the robot down the middle, stopping right in the center of the robot.

The blond boy watches from afar. "Holy shit."

Other test takers begin to exclaim their opinions.

"Whoa."

"That was incredible!"

"Wow, I did it!" she grins as she makes her way back to the ground. "Too bad I couldn't slice it all the way through." She pouts, crossing her arms. "I'll have to work on my arm muscles."

She lands and darts off to find more robots as the giant one explodes behind her.

"She's insane!"

The bomber watches her as he also goes around to get more points. No wonder she doesn't shy away from people. She'd easily be able to kick their ass...

"Ah man! I forgot how many points I've gotten!" she exclaims. "Dang it!"

Or maybe she's too dimwitted to realize...

Summer time is here.

Manami and Kota arrive at the Pussycat owned forest mountain land, seeing the four waiting outside for them.

Tiger, Yawara, comes rushing up, squeezing the two in a hug. "I've missed you two!"

Manami returns the hug with equal squeezing strength to his own. "Me too!"

The three females of the group walk over, chuckling.

"So, did ja? Did ja? You made it, right? Right?!" Ragdoll, Tomoko, pesters Manami.

The teen laughs. "I made it!"

The four heroes cheer.

"Time to celebrate!" Pixie Bob, Ryuko, shouts.

Manami made it into UA. She's going to be in class 1A with 19 other students. Kota currently isn't very happy with her. He's been practically ignoring her ever since she took the entrance exam.

It hurts since the two are so close.

"You go and take a shower and a nice long relaxing dip in the hot springs," Mandalay, Shino, says. "We'll make the two of you dinner while you do. Okay?"

"Yay!" Manami cheers, skipping off to put her things away before heading to the showers. "Aaah! So nice!" She seems to melt into the hot springs, literally disappears and becomes part of the water.

The next day, the Pussycats train Manami. Pixie Bob uses her dirt monsters to attack while Tiger attacks every once in a while to catch her by surprise.

She grins while she gracefully moves, slicing through the monsters like butter and dodging attacks easily.

Pixie Bob grins excitedly. "You're getting too good at this! I can hardly keep up!"

It's after dinner, and Manami is looking for Kota.

"Shino, have you seen Kota?"

"I haven't. He probably went off to his secret hideout. I don't know where that is," Mandalay answers.

"Okay, I'm gonna go look for him."

"Good luck."

She heads outside, knowing he's not inside. "Kota?" Manami calls out as she walks around. He doesn't respond, but she eventually finds him up on a cliff.

He sits at the edge, knees up to his chest with his arms wrapped around them. "Go away," he sniffles.

"What's wrong Kota?"

"Nothing! Just go away! You... You stupid hero!"

Her shoulders slump sadly as she shuffles up to him and sits down. "I know you don't like that I've decided to be a hero."

"Why do you have to be a stupid hero?! I don't want you to! What if... what if... something happened to you like what happened to mom and dad?! I only have you left! I don't want to l-lose you too!" Tears stream down his face. "What's gonna happen to me if you're gone?! I don't want you to die and leave me here alone!"

She pulls him into a hug. "I'm not going anywhere. And you aren't alone, Kota, you still have Shino, Ryuko, Tomoko, and Yawara. They love you just as much as I do."

"It-It wouldn't be the same!" he sniffles, tightly clutching her shirt.

"Ssh. Ssh. I'm not going anywhere," she whispers, brushing her fingers through his hair. "I'm right here. I'm not going to die on you. I will always be with you."

"Promise?"

"I promise."
