Chapter 8
A loud knock on his door stopped Camilo as he was about to turn the page.
"Camilo! Abuela called. "Time for breakfast!"
Camilo cursed under his breath. Abuela was already on his case, obviously suspicious he might be looking for answers. How was he even going to get back to his door in enough time for breakfast? It had taken him ages to make it to this point.
As if the room was reading his thoughts, his door materialised in front of him. Camilo grinned, "And they think they've got the best rooms in the family!"
Grabbing his book as Mirabelle did a round of knocking on everyone's door, Camilo turned into a coal miner he'd once seen walking the streets. He hid the book in a sack he held over his shoulder. Smirking, he walked out as Mirabelle paused and looked at him, then continued as he did a salute.
"Camilo, reporting for duty."
Mirabelle rolled her eyes and kept knocking one everyone's doors. As Dolores walked out of her room Camilo shape shifted his face into Mariano.
"Hey Dolores..." he teased, pretending to give her flirting look.
She just pretended to ignore him while elbowing him in the ribs.
"Ow." Camilo muttered as he followed the others down to breakfast. When he was going down the stairs, he shape shifted back into his original form and tucked the book under his ruana, hoping no one would see it. Lucky it was a thin book, though he was sure that most journals were like that.
He walked through Casita's open doors and put about double the allowed amount of food on his plate, hoping Felix wouldn't notice before he'd already stuffed it down his throat. People slowly took their places until everyone was seated at the table. Everyone talked, through eating their food. After he'd stuffed 5 bread rolls into his mouth Camilo turned to Isabella next to him and grinned.
"Walter still checking you out?" He asked teasingly as he shape shifted into Walter and did two eyebrow raises.
Walter was a guy from town who was the younger brother of Mariano, and all he wanted was to be married into the Madrigal family. He had started taking a liking to Isabella no matter how much she expressed how she didn't want to marry. So, he annoyed Isabella a lot.
Isabella rolled her eyes and twitched her finger. Camilo expected petals choking him, thats usually what happened when he annoyed her. What he didn't expect was a coconut falling on his head from a palm tree that had just sprouted behind him.
"Hey! What was that for?" Camilo protested as he held his head.
Isabella didn't respond, she focused on eating her breakfast and appeared as innocent as anything. Camilo sighed. "I think that's family abuse."

When everyone had finished breakfast Abuela gave the normal morning announcements, this one included that Dolores would have her proposal with Mariano in a week and that everyone was doing a very fine job in the village. Camilo felt like making her tell everyone that she would have something very important to say at dinner time but decided not to. He didn't want to push his luck.
Once everyone had left the left the table, Camilo hurried down to help with some decorations. He had had a few requests at the celebration yesterday. Heading for the peoples house he'd promised to help with, Camilo noticed Abuela following him. She sometimes watched them to make sure they had work to do, or find it for them but Camilo knew why she was following him. She was worried he would find answers. He felt the outline of the leather bound journal under his ruana and hoped it wasn't noticeable, or that she had noticed it.
He went to around 3 peoples houses before Abuela finally stopped following him, going of to talk to Gallants parents for arrangements. Camilo let out a breath, feeling like he could finally take out the book. Holding up the decorations with one hand, he slipped the book out from under his clothes with the other. He opened the first page and read.
To my dearest Pedro,
I know you are gone from where I am but someday I will give this to you, when we are together again in a better place. Today I was gifted a miracle, one that will make our family have magical powers for generations to come. It is good, and will help our town to grow but I can not say the same for my sisters. Ravana was given a different miracle, but it was dark, horrible. The only thing that power will do is break this entire world. I have kept it a secret though, Ranvana doesn't pose a threat on us at the moment and I hope she never will.
Camilo's head seemed to swirl as he tried to collect all this new information. There was another miracle...? And it was Abuela's sister's miracle. He flipped through the book and landed on a part that was written in hard text, by someone angry. Taking a deep breath, he read.
Ravana has come for me, asking to share my miracle with her. Hers is dying, there's no one who will continue their generations. But I know she would just take over our miracle, make it like her's. So I declined. Her miracle has faded, and ours will too if she takes over it, if it lands in her hands there will be no more miracles left.
Camilo flipped through the book again, seeing things he already knew. Mirabelle saving the house, everyone's new gifts, Antonios ceremony, then a page opened up with a bookmark in it, this was the last page Abuela had written, and the ink looked quite recent too.
Camilo has seen something I wished never to see. Oh Pedro, help us! The remaining one butterfly of Ravana's miracle is coming for us, and it will be stronger than ever. She wants revenge because of her miracle, and that will make the last part of what is left of it more powerful than when her miracle was alive. I'm afraid she's coming for us. And I know it's only a matter of time before she will come for us. Our miracle is in great danger and-
Camilo couldn't read and more. The book fell to the floor thump and his heart raced.
"Camilo are you okay?" Someone asked.
Camilo nodded, "Yeah, I just gotta go do something. I-I'll be back soon."
Then he sprinted through the village, ignoring the calls rising up around him. He could barely concentrate on anything. There was only one thing in his mind. Ravana was coming.
