Chapter 11
Camilo turned around and found himself staring into the the face of Ravana.
Of course, he didn't know what to expect when he saw her. He expected to see someone ugly and very annoyed, probably in the stages of depression since her whole family expect for Abuela had died and she'd lost her miracle. But for her appearance, he couldn't have expected it. She had black hair that ended unevenly, wisps of it covering her face. It was covered in nots and Camilo thought it would be a fair equivalent to a rats nest. She had the same dark brown eyes as Abuela, the only thing you could really think made them look like sisters. But her eyes were much different to Abuela's soft, calm ones. Her eyes glinted with hostility. They were set in a glare that seemed to have plastered to her face, never leaving it. Her lips were long and thin, in a straight line with not even the smallest curve to be seen. She was wearing what a simple black t-shirt and black jeans, a sword that looked like it was made from the ashes of a fire held steadily in her hand. The wrinkles were the only real thing to tell that she was old, apart form her slightly higher voice. It still sounded threatening though, quiet and edged with malice.
Slowly, all the members of Camilo's family started to fall to the ground. Dolores covered her ears with her hands before giving out like everyone else. Soon, the house was only full of three people standing, Camilo, Luisa and Ravana. Luisa ran for Ravana, Camilo hot on her heels. If he was going to end up on the floor like everyone else because of some butterfly, why not make the most of while he was standing to try and at least one punch in on Ravana?
Luisa a managed to dodge Ravana's sword and was halfway through punching her in the stomach when she crumpled to the ground. She had done enough though, as Ravana slowly staggered back, the concentration she lost made Isabella and Peppa able to get back up again. They rushed over the try and get to Ravana but Camilo got there first. He dodged a sword swinging for him and kick that would've ended up in his face if he hadn't turned into a kid he'd once seen on the street. But as he went to go for his own attack when he felt himself being kicked right in the stomach. He flew backwards, hitting a wall before sinking to the ground. Mirabelle, who had already been running for Ravana stopped and looked at Camilo.
"Camilo!" She yelled. She was about to say more when the same thing happened to her. She was flung back into a wall and lay there, unconscious.
Camilo rolled his eyes. "What a great help."
Peppa and Isabella stopped mid run, looking around and unsure of what to do next. Help Mirabelle, help Camilo or attack Ranvana? But as they tried to make up their minds Ravana was already ready and they crumpled to the ground. That butterfly was starting to really get on Camilo's nerves.
He looked up to see the the butterfly touching his door. He grinned to himself as nothing happened. He didn't know why it wasn't working on him, probably because there was no one form he had that the butterfly could take the power from. After all, he did spend each day being about fifty different people.
Ravana looked over at him and tilted her head to the side. "Doesn't work on you does it? No matter, that's what I brought this for." She hefted her sword up and slowly advanced on Camilo. "Anything last things you'd like to say?"
Camilo shrugged, though his rib that had been thrown against Casita protested with sharp bolts of pain. "You need a hairbrush," he croaked, his eyes glinting with an edge humour. He knew this probably wasn't the time to joke around, after all she was about to kill him but it was worth it just to see her reaction.
She glared at him even more (if that were even possible) and snarled. "Let's make it quick then." Then, everything seemed to happen in a blur. She lunged for him, sword to kill when something he never expected to happen did.
A figure appeared in between Camilo and Ravana, blocking her from him. Ravana pulled her sword back in surprise, then her usual glare returned.
Camilo looked up at the person saving his life, the word thank you at the top of his lips when he stopped in utter surprise. Why would she save him and sacrifice herself? Surely that wasn't what should happen here, if anything she was more important to the family than he was, this shouldn't be happening.
"Abuela..." he whispered.
