It was an exceptionally sunny day and that somehow brought the archer into a fairly good mood, not letting Riven and his grouchiness affect her. Tara stood in-between Sky and Riven as they watched Kat and Dane, two first years, train with each other.
"Sweep the leg!" Riven called to the first years who were fighting. The female first year did just that and took down the boy quickly and forced him to tap out.
"Could you try being 50% less of a dick?" Sky spoke squinting at the sun as the first years got up.
"Well, I'd be 50% less fun." Riven spoke cockily tapping the matt with his hands.
"Whats the other 50%?" Tara quizzed, upon the confused looks she received she elaborated, "It can't be kindness because you know... he's Riven." Sky chuckled as Riven jokingly pushed Tara away.
Sky smiled slightly, "Remember what a lost cause you were last year? Two black eyes and a sprained ankle, day one."
"I think we whipped him into shape." Tara hummed subtly checking out the to her left. The girl couldn't lie to herself and say that Riven hadn't had a massive glow up since last year.
"What do you want, a handy for taking me under your wing? I thought my friendship was reward enough." Riven said mockingly at Sky who just shook his head, Tara wrinkled her nose at how crude Riven could be.
"It is." Sky tapped his cheek twice before running off. Tara turned her head and scoffed upon seeing Stella walking along the concrete path looking innocent. Riven and Tara both spun around and leant their backs against the platform as the first year, Dane, approached his stuff that was in a pile next to Riven.
The boy sat down with his legs hanging over the edge and grabbed his phone which was in a red case. Riven spun around and whistled, "Get off your phone."
"And I'd listen to you because?" Dane was sat awfully straight for a first year, did he ever slouch? Tara couldn't even imagine putting in that much effort to sit up straight.
"Because..." Riven pushed himself up and sat on the mat next to Dane and pulled Tara to stand with her back to him and in-between his legs as he leant his arms around her shoulders. Tara wasn't fully listening as she watched some first years try the archery course. "...you full-creeped on my Insta last night, and I haven't told anyone."
Riven had gotten the notification halfway during the film with Tara.
"I was just curious about all the second years and then my finger slipped." Dane stuttered slightly.
"Oh, your finger slipped? Is that what we're going with?" Riven teased leaning closer and squeezing his best friends' shoulders. Tara looked up and him frowned when she noticed how nervous Dane was getting.
"Was it at least a good picture?" Tara questioned as she tuned back into the conversation, Riven fiddling with her curly hair which was in a long ponytail.
"Yeah, it was the shirtless chair one."
Tara scoffed and flipped her ponytail a little as she turned to face the both of them, still standing in-between Riven's legs, "I'm still annoyed you never gave me photo creds." Riven flicked her lightly, Tara hid her smile and turned back around. Dane watching their interaction with raised brows.
"Look, I'm feeling generous. I might not be feeling that way much longer." Riven leant towards Dan and lowered his voice, "First piece of advice is, choose your friends carefully this year. Second, focus. Get your mind in it, man. You fought Kat with your limbs, and you lost." During Riven's small speech Dane kept glancing to and from the second years, "Being a good Specialist is not about how big you are, it's not about how strong, it's... It's all about strategy."
Tara shook her head slightly amused and took this as her moment to leave, "Have fun with your mini me." Riven watched her move to the archery station and frowned. She could've stayed with him if she had wanted.
Tara smiled a little as the grass was pushed under her feet. Riven could be a good guy and he had just proved that slightly by giving Dane some actually useful advice. He wasn't a bad guy compared to what most people thought, Riven could be prickly, very prickly, on the outside but he never really meant to cause harm. Tara didn't think so anyway. Yes, Riven could be a dick and sometimes Tara needed a Riven free evening but at the end of the day there was nothing she wouldn't do for him. He was after all, her best friend in the whole world.
Much like Riven, she felt like she could just be herself around him and never hide her true personality. Either if she's in the most antisocial mood ever and kicks him out of her room or if she feels particularly emotionally starved, only wanting to cuddle.
Approaching the archery station she picked up an arrow and knocked it into the string, her fingers grazed her cheek and as she exhaled, releasing the arrow into the target.
A bullseye. She never missed.

Riven packed up his stuff after the afternoon of training. Tara and him had plans to go and be antisocial in his room (also known as vaping), whilst Sky got himself involved in fairy drama. Hard pass for the other two best friends. "Lurky stoner guy, right?"
Riven turned to face the voice which had spoken and started walking over to Tara slowly, he shrugged, "Or Riven."
"Your name is Riven? Really?" Beatrix looked down when he felt her arm link through his. Riven looked down at the girl in confusion, why had she just attached herself to him? She was a pretty girl who stood at around 5'5 but was obviously taller in her heels. A reddish brown colouring to her hair with deep brown eyes.
Riven raised a brow at her and spoke confused yet defensive, "Can I help you?"
"You can." The fairy who Riven didn't know dragged him away from his best friend and into the maze of hedges which was often used for training, away from all of the peeping eyes, "You seem like a proper delinquent." Riven scoffed slightly as he looked around. The hedges stood about ten feet tall so it wasn't like he could see anyone.
Her eyes danced over his form that was slouched slightly as they stood in close proximity, he wasn't exactly an ugly fella but she was on a mission and wouldn't be thrown off course by an emotional attachment to a boy she hardly knew, that didn't necessarily mean they couldn't have a little fun however.
"Depends who's asking."
Beatrix grinned a little at his defensive answer and tilted her head, "The person who wants to break into Dowling's office. Thought you might wanna help." Riven had never gone to that extreme of likeliness of being caught but what was life without a little risk?
"And why would you think that?" Riven mimicked her movement and tilted his head, squinting at her.
"Because you're a guy, and I'm hot. Or did I misjudge the depth of your character?" Her tone was slightly mocking as she stepped a small bit closer.
Riven was intrigued to say the least, "And, uh... what will I get?"
"Guess we'll see, won't we? You in?"
"Yeah, but we're bringing my friend." Riven walked out of the maze not looking back knowing she would follow. She came to him for help and he doubted she would say no now that he agreed, she also had to leave the maze at one point or another. He gestured to the brown haired girl who strung a bow over her shoulder and was chatting with some other specialists.
The specialists gestured behind her and she spun around and smiled at Riven. Emily, Noura and Kat bid her farewell as she walked over to her best friend who stood next to a slightly smaller girl who had a smirk on her face looking around.
Tara smiled kindly at the girl she presumed to be a first year and raised a brow to riven subtly wondering if she was accompanying them to the antisocial social gathering.
"Ready to go?" Tara's fingers wrapped around the bow as the three seemed to be left alone since every one had gone, "I was thinking no movie and start a show, Noura was just telling me about this show called Teen Wolf and it has the same guy who plays Thomas in The Maze Runner an-" her speaking was cut off as Riven shook his head and covered her mouth with his hand.
"Tara, shush." Riven grimaced and brought his hand away when he felt something wet touch his hand. She'd licked his hand. Tara grinned at him and snickered at his disgusted look, Beatrix cracked a small smile but generally wanted to get a move on. He hugged her and she stiffened at how sudden it was but tapped his back awkwardly looking at Beatrix who looked thoroughly bored, that was until she realised what he was doing. Tara wriggled away from him and whacked his shoulder, he had wiped his hand on her back.
"That's disgusting!" Tara exclaimed as she spun in a small circle trying to look at the back of her shirt, stopping when she realised she looked like a dog chasing its tail. No one ever said she was the sharpest tool in the shed.
"Says you," Riven scoffed and was about to continue before Beatrix cleared her throat to stop the playful teasing.
"Right, well now that this," she gestured to the two of them, "is out of the way. All three of us need to go." Beatrix grabbed Riven's hand and walked off.
Tara raised a brow as Riven was dragged away comfortably by the beautiful younger girl and couldn't help but feel a tad jealous. But why would she feel jealous? He was her best friend and they both went off with other people, so, why was it now that she felt uncomfortable watching him grin a bit? She shook of these thoughts and quickly followed after her friend and their acquaintance, having no idea of the adventure of a lifetime that she was about to enter.
