Chapter 8
Faint dust of rock and soil could be felt rolling amongst the bottom of your feet despite the covering of boots and thin rugged socks made of old rags that were once your apron.
Exploring the abandoned ruins of the Belmont home. A child light of curiosity overcame your stress finding that the small bits of either burnt paintings or wood that belonged to the ghost remains on the stairs.
A burn of your childhood having being mirrored in another one's place. While it has been thirteen years since the burning of the orphanage and sweetness of the orchard, the smell of the marked children and creates of the orphanage brick wall clouding the smoke will never fade as does the one joy of ever experiencing your angel again.
Glancing at your group seeing as you had missed out on what seemed to be an ebullient conversation as they laughed onerously. Perhaps this was a change of pace for you to no longer feel voided and look at opening more for your troubles to be shared.
A scholar who knows magic being almost made a nomad, a vampire hunter who lost his whole family while the region thinks the name Belmont is evil, a half-blood vampire who hurts after losing his mother left to betray his hell bringing father, and then you an orphan surviving a bloody night left with cursed markings that now allows you to cast magic with blood as well as with sparse picture with hair of gold smiling at you but you could never see their eyes.
'Perhaps I should make more of myself' you thought as you held your thumb to your lips in thought while kicking a piece of rubble away watching as it bounced into a crevice.
"I think this is it," Alucard said holding a torch in his hand to shed light on the bronze-looking door hidden under the rubble. "Your hidden entrance looks like a hearthstone."
"Just help me clear it," Trevor grumbled pushing rubble out of the way with both hands.
Squinting your eyes slightly as you scanned for a spot to start clearing. Jumping over a few rocks until you were on the opposite side of Trevor squatting down and brushing your hand over the shadows making them come to life as they started to move the rubble like it were leaves in water.
"You don't need to use your magic" Alucard's voice startled you not seeing him appear from behind. Looking up at the vampire made you shrink away had it not been for him to grab your right arm surprisingly being gentle as he lifted you and had you join Sypha and Trevor watching as he threw the debris like it was nothing aside.
"Leave it to the strength of a million men" You joked
"Congratulations. You have just discovered a big piece of stone." Teasing clearly evident in the vampire's voice.
"It's the door," Trevor stated with an expression of anticipation on his face.
"Do we lift it or...?" Sypha questioned
Glancing at the door trying to get a better look at the decorations and writing before losing your bandages to compare your markings.
"That's odd. I don't seem to be able to get any purchase on it." Alucard sighed when trying to lift the door.
"Well, my family got it up somehow. I was taken down there as a child" Trevor told
"I may be able to get this open. The markings on the door match the ones I have on my arm" You said holding up your arm to show them.
"You going to open the door by making a ritual using blood to get this open?" Trevor questioned with an amused grin.
Rolling your eyes at the childish vampire hunter and sighing exasperatedly "My magic does not always involve using blood you twit. I can connect myself with this door, but I'll also be needing Sypha's assistant as I can only connect for a short period of time."
Sypha looked taken aback by your announcement that she didn't even have time before realizing you had already set her beside you.
"Et aperuit ostium, ut Caeli ignotus est et aequum sit principium nostri." You chanted stretching both hands out creating a magic circle to spin on the door lightning up red mixing with the blue of Sypha's magic creating a vibrant purple.
A pop of wind blew by once the door had vanished. Smiling at Sypha proudly "we did it! Come on let's go see what's inside!" You laughed taking off into a run down the steps like an eager child getting candy.
"They just take off like that?" Trevor said shaking his head.
"One would guess that they never had a chance to explore as a child," Alucard said smiling watching as the glow from your marking slowly dimmed the further you had run "Although it is nice to see them smile again."
The massive size of the Belmont hold was incredible to you that you could almost feel yourself just become immersed.
"The memory of my family. All that's left of us" Trevor's voice echoed above the stairs while you were too busy being a mouse in a maze looking at everything not knowing where to start.
Eventually, you had found yourself surrounded by ten large books varying in different contents from ancient languages to spell seals. It crossed your mind suddenly that you should be taking the time to understand what the markings on your arm were about before becoming too immersed in something else.
It didn't take very long and it was evident there was nothing that could move you away from that one spot you had made your study. Books opened to different pages with many being held open by either a lightened candle or by one of the shadow hands you summoned.
In the peak of the shadows while they watched you flip page by page hunched over each book studying carefully they couldn't help but smile at every moment your eyes enlarged when finding something closer to your intent.
Their only misstep of ever having you recollect your memory is for you to break the spell your self which at the pace you seemed to be working at is not enough.
