Chapter 4

Chilling of how your head started to throb as a sudden fear climbed through the right side of your numb body. Opening your eyes to see the familiar tarp of a wagon you had been traveling in for quite some time.

Sitting up hearing the pops of your back along the rumbling as the wagon's wooden wheels trotted over pebbles of the road underneath.

"Is she awake?"

Exploring by the means of asking others to travel along with came with odd glances. While you were human that you reminded yourself each day by remembering what you did the day before tomorrow.

"She hasn't said a word since two days ago."

Quickly grabbing your cloak and tying it around your neck before laying back down on the wooden floor staring at the outside of the wagon seeing the gloomy yet still beautiful mountains. The path you had left behind leading to the orphanage.

A sudden halt of movement caused you to sit back up. The stillness of the wagon made you uneasy and your hosts weren't making any noise. Promptly jumping out of the wagon from the rear walking your way to the front only to be met with the mutilated bodies of your hosts.

"They are reaching further," You murmur to yourself when crouching down to look at the bodies finding no sense of repulsion not after what happened at the orphanage nothing bothered no matter how deformed.

Gazing ahead barely able to see due to the sun beaming directly into your vision yet helped with burning away the misty sky. Raising a hand to protect your eyes, closing them briefly until seeing the fire ornamented sky of sundown.

Shinning of the gravel leading the expected destination you had wished to reach. An hour-long walk seemed faster when there wasn't anything on your mind other than watching the birds fly over by and seeing field mice pop out of the small patches of snow.

There was no such thing as a warm welcoming. Not after the plague of demons seeking out humans for leaving behind trails of blood set from their master Dracula.

Glancing at your arm looking at the bandages that were wrapped keeping eyes seeing the cursed marks. From previous travels, many would question or simply give an apprehensive look.

Churches were an instinct to stay away. As you had grown up so did your vision on how uncharacteristic the church had started to become since of the paranoia of demons creeping around.

Walking past the stone brick wall immediately raised a concern as to where the guards were.

'Drunk on the floor or likely pie-eyed in some pigs pen'

"Traveler are you?"

Drawing your attention to a strongly built man standing guard of his stock of what looked to be meats. Taking a glance over what they had to sell so did a leg of some sort of animal caught your attention.

"Are travelers not welcome in this town?" You bothered asking finding that if travelers weren't welcome, they came here for nothing.

"Tch, save yourself. Nothing but demons that come to pick off those here. Every time the is less of us each day."

While the town was rather poor looking there were still citizens who seemed to at least make what was around.

"Perhaps I can be of help. My appearance doesn't show it but I can offer to save this town. Do you have a... A priest I can talk to?" You questioned reluctance to be asking someone who had anything to do with God.

Instinct like ants to candy men in black robes with red sashes came to both sides much to your displeasure. "Look god hates me already so if you're going to string me up on a cross with the fire burning away at my feet then the least you could have done is save the people first instead of your faith."

A guttural growl could be heard from your side. A ringing in your ears to tell. Shoving both men to the side as you stand firmly and kept both feet apart. Grunting when your arm glowed bright red making blood swirl around it.

"Off ad vitam et ad inferos!"

The demon stared at your eyes glowing red and a circle of blood laid under you as a sulfuric smell emitted. Nothing would dare come as its blood would only be stolen.

"All creatures of darkness know to not be. Why have you?" You questioned the demons watching as it circled you waiting for an opportunity.

"The master did you a favor as this is how you repay him!" The demon snapped at you inches from your face.

"I may know of Dracula but he did not favor me. He is the reason for this curse is on my arm!" You spat at the demon.

The demon laughed raising one of its bear-sized paws laughing loudly without a care as it melted away into your circle "Foolish child! You are but a mere drop in what you can be!"

Casting away you spell watching as the demon skeletal remains melted away. "Pathetic waste of magic," you sighed turning away but stopped when hearing the stone ground beneath you crack.

Not remembering when dropping to when you landed on a metal structure. Never have you fallen before but your body was in a numbing state of shock only looking up at the ground you were once standing on.

Distant screaming was heard but you didn't see until the metal structure you were on started to tilt as the gravity pushed your body to the edge.

"Ah! Pals de tenebris!"

Swinging your left arm straight up creating a hand of darkness to rise out of the shadows and hold the piece of falling structure to stop. Grunting when your hip hit the metal rib causing the wind to escape you for a moment.

Shaking your head when looking at the hand of darkness as the adrenaline in your body made you feel silly and smiled gazing down.

"Oh hello," You said casually waving a hand at them but they did not seem amused at the hand of darkness disappeared. If it weren't for the loud wind being heard as you fell then your distressed screaming could have been heard.
