Chapter 17
However long it must have taken to get past the bruises and scrapes which have left tiny marks on the small corners of your body. Pushing to medium-length shirts and skirts for better coverage not that it bothered you aside from the ache in the back of your head. Being blindsided by being hit in the head with a heavy book from welcomed guests wasn't exactly planned.
Alucard had not taken kindly to what happened to you. Even with reassurance that it was just minor cuts and bruises, he persisted to examine you. It had you nearly crying at how tender his touches were even though he had it worse.
Self-destruction was common during a tender point of sadness and even though in the back of your mind you knew better than to allow your disappointment to turn to aggressive judgment. There was no reason to act out at an inappropriate time.
The loud creaking of the castle doors opening startled you from your writing. Finding it the best time to start a journal of past adventures but also to brush up on the legibility of your penmanship. Placing the ink bottle and feather back on the wood holder. Patting your skirt to relieve the wrinkles, finding that sitting on a chair cross-legged was most comfortable.
"Adrian?" You called out walking at a decent pace down the corridor and to the steps of the front door finding it slightly open allowing a draft of cold air causing goosebumps are your arms clicking your tongue at the reminder of needing longer sleeves for when outside.
"Adrain, if you are going to be outside then at least, please close the door behind you," You scolded walking out between the door using the shadows to help pull the door closed letting out a sigh. Turning to supposedly see what had made the godly Jesus-looking vampire come outside only to abruptly turn away in mild embarrassment when so much as a glance of golden eyes met your (E/C) ones. An unexpected situation that was natural.
"Had I known you were going to do that? You should have said something," You stated, playing with the sides of your skirt flexing your fingers at best, and bouncing lightly on your toes. Honestly, you loved him but it hurt to not be able to reach him sometimes at the fear of him pushing you away or making him be dissatisfied in reuniting again.
The familiar sound of Adrian fixing his pants and his silent steps never went unfamiliar to your ears. Sometimes you'd laugh at yourself for memorizing the simplest of sounds yet in the back of your mind you just wanted to drown out what happened at the orphanage even if that night didn't have much of an impact given that it felt like being in a stranger's home. The family you knew existed didn't even come but as of the present, you had no wish to see them as for all you cared they died that night.
"Something is occupying your mind again, "Adrain's voice whispered in your ear dragging you from your thoughts as his arms caged around your torso. Locking your arms in front of you with his head resting on your shoulder. "You have been locked in your room. I have started to miss those apples you once brought me."
He never did fail to make a smile appear on your face whether you wanted to or not. "I only got you those while I could." You said in a matter of factual tone shivering when he placed a kiss on your neck. It was in the back of your mind that he would use his fangs at some point and while you did have fear you also knew that he would never intentionally hurt you.
"You didn't even leave any for me. Yet, you want more? Such a greedy man," You let out a soft laugh to hide the shutter of breath you wanted to make when feeling his hands gentle trail from your torso to chest. Oh, how the nun's that had raised you would have cried at you know. Swaying slightly until hearing the sound of clicking and jingling of reins approaching.
"I hear a horse," You stated in an attentive voice. Not even sure if the sound was from a horse as it being the first thing to be familiarizing the sound too.
Like your words became true, out from the forest came a single horse, the corpse of its rider still saddled on its back. Blood dripped off the side of the animal. A flick of your wrist and the blood became like ice shattering into fine particles while Alucard reluctantly let go to set the body on the ground examining for any reason why they may have come.
Being mindful to not spook the horse you softly shushed it before leading it away by the reins still attached to its saddle and bit. Although it had been a long time since being with animals you did always find their eyes to be the most interesting, softly rubbing its face.
"There's a camp this man came from. To thee, Alucard and his mage," Adrian paused to take a glance at you sharing the same surprise look at the use of the word.
"If what happened to this man is happening to these people's camp then we must go and help them. Otherwise, I'd be stuck trying to get you to stop being depressed after finding that cloak you're so fond of now," You said before shining a smile and walking the horse to a small garden you had been planting for a few weeks.
