Chapter 15
The way the sun behind through the trees felt better in the way. Not having to be opening your eyes laying in damp soil with dew dripping down your face from the leaves above or having mountain winds numb aching pains.
This castle wasn't hell. It was home that felt better than one you had supposedly had back at the orchard. It still never interested you to know why you were placed in that orphanage but pushed it down for a more suitable time.
"I wonder if Adrain ever appreciated the orchard" you murmur holding up your bandaged hand blocking some of the sun's rays from shining into your delicate eyes.
A rabbit jumped over the torso of your body startling you to sir up in bewilderment watching the woodland creature disappear into nearby bushes. Retracting your hands to your beating heart letting out a sigh.
"I must get used to living a calm life. There is no need for me to get scared over a rabbit" you say using the palm of your better hand to push your body off the ground and patted your cotton skirt once on your feet.
The air felt calm around you. When at the orphanage it still held its strict atmosphere from when it was alive.
Running water off the river brought the idea of a quick swim. Shoes placed near a smooth stone while neatly folding your skirt and blouse on top of the dry grass. Laying back on top of the water feeling its cold run over your shoulders nothing to disturb from this relaxing peace watching as the sun was cast from directly hitting your eyes by the branches of the tree.
The peace lasted for a short time before your mind brought back the apple pie you had set in the kitchen not too long ago. Collecting your clothes not carrying if the water still dripped off your body or that your skirt was getting attached to the middle of your back as there seemed even the insects were scared to not come near the castle.
Making way to the castle steps just a small voice caused your head to turned around. Golden hair lover with two accompanied humans in straws and iron armor, a female and male both of course not from around any neighboring towns or any you have across before.
A slight wave of anxiety washed over but then went away as you took the first step on the stairs.
"Guests?" Voice soft as you looked at the two humans.
Adrian's eyes met yours seeing the confusion within them. His gaze made you feel at ease since if he was comfortable tasking them to the castle them they must not be of any wrong.
"I-I have a pie waiting. You are welcome to have some." You said shyly not expecting guests.
The two humans seemed to be staring at you for a while before the female spoke. "That is gracious of you!" She bowed just as the male copied her.
Raising a hand to wave at them with a sheepish smile "Honestly I'm the least gracious person anyone was to meet" you say glancing away sheepishly.
Gentle hands grasp yours leading you inside as the two humans follow behind. "You mustn't keep putting yourself down as that" Adrian spoke with a loving smile walking the four of you into the kitchen were among the wooden table sat a crisp and golden apple pie with decorative apple slices sprinkled in cinnamon.
"Suppose what we needed was a company," You say with a small smile watching as the humans bicker over who gets the biggest slice.
