12 TWO SIDES

It was Karasuno versus Seijoh. A match that seemed unfair to the unknowing eye; a school famous for going up against Shiratorizawa against a school known for their fall from grace? Seemed predictable. But you knew better than to, quote-unquote, judge a book by its' cover.

Your elbow rested atop your folded knee as you watched intensely. F/N seemed to look just as immersed... but just...

"I feel like my insides are going to explode from the tension...!" Sweating, trembling, and gripping her skirt, she wearily looked away and up at you. "Y/N-sama... why do they look so intense?!"

Her eyes had little comically drawn swirls in them, her lips shaking as the two captains from each team talked. You leaned forward and pursed your lips, squinting your eyes to get a better view from where you were. "I think you look the most intense out of everyone here."

You looked up, to the opposite side of you, where the crowd for Aoba Johsai were. The cheer squad was intense; all in sync and so loud you could hear them clearly from where you were. It was distracting in a way... but maybe that was intentional. You didn't really care.

F/N watched in anger as some more girls cheered for Oikawa, her face contorting into a big, sulky pout. "It's so unfair how somebody like him has so many girls chasing after him! Hmph... it should be you, Y/N-sama! At least that would be acceptable..."

"I don't see a reason why girls would cheer for me. I'm not a sociable person," you spoke softly, eyes still trained on the boys warming up. "I don't like sports, either."

"Yeah, but you're really hot!"

You rolled your eyes.

It wasn't too long before they had all lined up, ready to start. "THANK YOU FOR THE GAME!" Each team yelled simultaneously.

Tsukishima started by serving, getting it straight over as Oikawa was getting ready to set and Iwaizumi to spike. But instead of that, Oikawa effectively faked them all out by spiking instead.

Kageyama looked surprised from what you could see, along with the rest of the team. The cheers from the other side seemed to get even louder as Aoba Johsai scored a point, Oikawa looking on with a smug smirk on his lips.

F/N looked at him in shock, pulling on your sleeve, "Woah! He totally just tricked all of them, including Kageyama! I thought he knew him well, though?"

"Well... it's probably been a while since they've played against each other in a proper match..." You said, placing your face in your hands as you winced at their expressions.

The ball was served from Seijoh's side, and Daichi solidly received it. Kageyama and Hinata did an outstanding quick attack that left everyone speechless...

only for it to be received.

"Whaaat?!" F/N gasped, leaning onto the railing, mouth slack open in shock. "How did they get it?!"

The ball was hit to Karasuno, who quickly hit it over, to Oikawa, was looked to be spiking it again. Tanaka and Hinata got ready to block it, but in the blink of an eye, the pretty boy switched from a spike to a serve, passing it to Iwaizumi, who slammed the ball down.

F/N nearly fell off from where she was standing, if you hadn't grabbed onto her shirt and kept her there. "Huh?! They're so good?! What the heck is that Oikawa dude on?!"

"That's really... impressive..." Even you looked a little surprised, eyes wider than usual and lips parted. "He moved so quickly, that as soon as they jumped up, he passed it away..."

"That has to be like.. a one-time thing! That's impossible!"

You watched as Kageyama dumped the ball over the net with his hand after three people had run up; giving a blazing hot glare to Oikawa who returned it just the same. With the help of three others, he had faked him out.

"I don't think the others expected that either. He just wanted to get back at Oikawa, probably. It was a good fake, though." You murmured to yourself as you watched the expressions on the other side darken, and you almost smiled.

"Woah, Y/N-sama! You're totally learning all that volleyball blabber nonsense! I wonder if we keep hanging around them... maybe we'll devolve into whatever they are!" She snickered evilly, hiding her smirk from behind her hand. She brushed her bangs away from her forehead, lifting her glasses up.

She looked up at you, seeing your focused expression. "You look really intense too, Y/N-sama... I've never seen you look like this anywhere apart from when you're writing papers. You must be really into this!"

F/N looked to the ground, shuffling her feet, muttering, "Maybe I should get into volleyball if you like it so much... hm...?" She thinks, then smiles. "Hey, what do you think, Y/N-sama? Should I get into volleyball? Y/N-sama?"

She waved her hand in front of your face, watching as your pupils dilated and you turned to her. "...huh? What'd you say?"

F/N drew out an irritated expression, huffing, "You weren't even listening!"

For the next few minutes, nothing really memorable happened, until Seijoh had called a timeout. They walked away, gathering around in a circle as Oikawa spoke.

"Ah...? Y/N-sama, they're all talking! What's happening... did they find out our game secret?!" F/N stared in shock, hands twirling around her bangs in distress. "Gr... Oikawa's so annoying! How is he so smart?!"

"He's really perceptive, that's mostly it..." You squinted, eyes narrowing as you watched how he subtly glanced behind him at Kageyama condescendingly. He smiled before walking away. "And he's sure of himself. That's why the others on his team trust him so much. They naturally see him as a leader; arranging them as he sees fit. However, he's not like a tyrant... they follow him willingly. It's just human nature to flock to the strongest. Some are fit to be leaders..."

You stare at Kageyama, who is muttering under his breath and shuffling his shoes on the floor. "And some are not."

F/N wows at you, clapping her hands together with stars appearing around her. "Wow! You're so smart, Y/N-sama! I didn't see it like that. I just thought that Oikawa could just see right through them because he was a freakin' genius or something!"

You shook your head at her, folding your arms underneath your chest. "He is very smart. Even if intelligence doesn't really matter in a game like this, it always does in terms of strategy. That, paired with his keen observations, make him great at this game."

F/N kept on staring at you in awe, which made your stomach twist as you placed your hands back onto your lip and tapped your fingers against your stockings, looking to the ground. "At... at least, that's just how I think... I mean..."

"Oh, Y/N-sama! You're always so funny when you're nervous like this!" She laughed, crossing her legs and swinging back into her seat.

"They really have figured it out, Y/N-sama!" F/N stared in shock as Hinata barely managed to get the ball over Kindaichi's fingertips. "Oh no! What are they gonna do?!"

Karasuno soon called a timeout when Tanaka failed to receive and spike down two balls in a row. You could tell just by his and Oikawa's facial expressions... that he had intended for this.

"He's making Tanaka feel guilty," you said with a frown. "For not getting them. So one of the team's biggest optimists is silent. That must feel horrible."

"What a sad guy!" F/N remarked.

Tanaka was blocked once more before Karasuno called their second and final timeout. He seemed upset, and the fact that Seijoh was targeting him made it even worse.

"That's so mean! They were going after him!" F/N pointed in shock, gaze moving from you, to the game, to you, and to the game again. "That sucks! What a sucky move! Hmph!"

"It's just strategy, F/N," you shrugged, closing your eyes and leaning back into the chair. "It is still sad, though."

F/N got out of her seat, leaning over the railings, and cupping her hands around her mouth, "HEY!!! YOU GUYS ARE REALLY GOOD! KEEP GOING!!!" She shouted loudly, waving her arms around to catch their attention.

She was successful in that... along with catching the attention of every other person in the area. The place went silent, as people stared at the small girl yelling and cheering praises. You grabbed her shirt, pulling her away with an embarrassed look, "be quiet!"

You looked back down, to see they were laughing and smiling once again/ Their moods seemed to have been affected positively by F/N's outburst, so you decided not to punish her by writing thirty papers tonight.

"They're..." F/N started, eyes wide.

"Swapping setters!" You finished, eyes also wider than usual. "That's strange... I wonder why now, of all times. Kageyama was getting antsy, but I didn't think it was that bad to the point he needed to get out."

"Kageyama was getting realll desperate, I'm telling you! Did you see his face? It looked like he wanted to shit!" F/N poked your sides a few times, pouting out her lip as she spoke. "He totally was losing his cool... he must have a lot of pent-up rage! But Sugawara-san is the total opposite. He's totally cool-headed!"

"I don't know..." You mumbled, tilting your head to the side to get a better view of the court. "He may seem like that, but he's just human like the rest of us. He can probably get just as irritating and upset as Kageyama. It just takes a push."

You watched as Koshi proceeded to smack, hit, or chop each player, with the exception of Noya, whom he high-fived. You watched how he grinned and assured the team, placing his hands on his hips and nodding.

"Y/N-sama, haven't you noticed?" F/N pointed down to where Kageyama and Hinata were having a verbal (and slightly physical) brawl, hitting at each other. Then looked to Sugawara, who was patting Tsukishima on the back, smiling widely. "They're like... opposites. Two sides of a coin."

"That's..." You squinted down at her, pulling at her cheeks and ears. "Are you really F/N? That was far too inquisitive for her."

She slapped your hands away with a small pout, "Aah! Y/N-sama, that hurts!" F/N then sunk back into her chair, resting her hand on her face. "I'm just saying... it's kinda funny. How they're so different... how Sugawara-san is so obviously the more friendly one, and the one who can get along with the others, yet is less skilled than the anti-social, stone-faced Kageyama... so he stays on the bench."

She leaned forward, thinning her lips and puffing out her cheeks. "But when we need to switch up the game... he's the perfect distraction to the other team because they're so used to Kageyama. Because he's so different from Sugawara-san, it provides a breath of fresh air to our team and gives us the upper hand, even if he is less skilled than Kageyama!"

"That's true..." You nodded, then scoffed quietly, tapping your fingers on your arm. "I wonder if you word your thoughts well enough on paper when you write about this game."

"...Aaah? Y/N-sama... do I have to write it...?" She sulked, mushrooms appearing over her head as she sunk down into a puddle on her seat.

"Shh, shh, look. They're playing," you raised her head up to see the libero of Seijoh just missing the ball... but it was out, anyway. Aoba Johsai had won this set.

"No!" F/N huffed, biting on the nail of her thumb nervously. "Aw man... they lost!"

"Only one set." You reminded her but still looked as nervous as you could all the same. "But the point difference was so large... I wonder what they'll do."

F/N looked up to you in awe for a second, then nodded her head and grinned. "I'm sure they'll get it! I mean, it is them! Aha!"

Her enthusiasm is really something to admire, you thought, and almost found yourself complimenting her.
