04 COMMON HUMAN DECENCY

Oikawa—despite being the clear pick for a better setter—because of his prolonged absence, cost his team the game against their rival school.
It was nice to see that they've won, it meant you got to document that they beat Aoba Johsai, the number 4 school in the prefecture. It gave a sense of accomplishment, even if you hadn't truly done anything.
"Thank you for playing with us!"
You, F/N, and Kiyoko stood up, packing things up so you were ready to leave. You had gotten more information than you expected, and if you kept going to new schools, you could have had much more.
Or at least, that's what you told yourself.
Maybe you'd keep tagging along.

"Takeda was right. But if we want to win a real game against Seijoh with Oikawa in the setter position, we're still missing a vital ingredient." Daichi said as you all started to walk back.
"Wow... very well said, Captain."
You'd recognize that playful voice anywhere. Damn, it's Oikawa.
The pretty boy continued, grinning with his head tilted to the side, "That's surprisingly right."
"LOOK OUT, ITS THE GREAT KING AGAIN!"
"GAH! ITS OIKAWA! STAY AWAY FROM Y/N-SAMA!" F/N made lame karate move chops at him, in a defensive position in front of you.
"What's your damage?" Tanaka walked up to him confidently.
"Got a problem?!" Hinata walked up less confidently, hiding behind his upperclassmen with a scrunched-up pout.
"Want a knuckle sandwich?!" Tanaka threatened.
"Yeah let's rumble!"
"Aw, no need to get yourselves worked up. But hey short stuff, that one touch and broad jump were great." Oikawa said, now smiling hauntingly, leaning forward to the shorter boy (almost as if he were exaggerating the height difference between them). "You should be proud!"
Hinata only smiled nervously at the compliment (that felt more like a thinly-veiled insult) while rubbing the back of his head.
"But next time, we should try doing things full out from the start. You haven't seen our real set-up, but don't worry, we'll be working on perfecting our serves 'till then."
"That combination attack is pretty effective, but you're going to run out of steam at one point. You need to improve your receives." The pretty boy chuckled lightly. "After all, I'm not the only one who does power serves."
You looked at him. Is he referring to Wakatoshi?
He walked up to Kageyama. Oikawa pointed at him—like he were declaring a war between the two vastly different, yet, hauntingly similar, setters. "The inter-high tournaments are coming up, and I want you to make the cut. Listen up carefully, my special prodigy, I want to crush you fair and square. At an official game where we both play the setter."
"Yeah, well, we can train to receive, fancy pants!" Hinata yelled out, grabbing onto Tsukishima. The blonde yelled in protest, trying to shake the little man off.
"Just so you know, receives aren't something you can master overnight." Oikawa then started to walk away. "I'm sure your captain can attest to that. If we happen to meet again at the tournament, I'm looking forward to seeing your improvement."
He then walked away completely, smirking to himself. Well, not until he yelled something out.
"Oh, and I'll take you on that date one way or another, journal-chan! I promise I won't keep you waiting!"
You looked away, hiding your face. Then, you covered your mouth with your cheeks puffed out and looked up. "I'm going to vomit."
"Y/N-SAMA! I'LL TAKE YOU TO THE BATHROOM, DON'T WORRY!" F/N yelped, slinging your arm over her shoulder and marching away.
"AND NOW HE'S GONNA GO AFTER OUR JOURNALIST?! HELL NO, I'M GONNA TEAR HIM A NEW ONE-"
"Shut. It." Daichi smacked the second year on the back of his head, his eyes twitching.

Somehow, along the way, you had taken another route and left school earlier than the rest. But along the way, you bumped into the rest of them. F/N was nearly crying, hanging onto you while saying how you could've gotten into trouble.
"I'm fine, F/N. I won't die without you here. Just be... lonelier." You pat her back with a blank face.
"You're lonely without me?! Awweeeee!!! I'll never leave your side, Y/N-sama!"
"I hope you didn't worry. I just needed a bit of alone time, you know what I mean?" You turned to the rest of the team (that were there). You gave them a (sort of less harsh) look, which was appreciated.
"Yeah, totally! Kageyama needs alone time like... all the time! He's still always really angry though so I don't think it really helps-"
"Shut your face idiot!"
"Oh, Y/N, I got you some food." Sugawara, with his angelic smile, passed you a bag. "Just let me know if you have any allergies or if you're vegan, okay?"
"Thank you, Koshi. This is one of the nicest things anybody other than F/N has done for me." You thanked him, bowing your head down to hide you were tearing up uncharacteristically. You've known him for like what, a week and a half and he's already this nice?
Common human decency was foreign to you.
"Whaaaaat?! You two are on a first-name basis?!" Hinata looked at you two, turning his head side-to-side.
"Oh, sorry if that alarmed you. If it makes you feel any better, you can call me Y/N too. No need for formalities." You turned to him and sent him another gentle smile.
"R-REALLY?! YOU CAN CALL ME SHOYO THEN, Y/N!"
He stuttered out loudly, some yells from houses following.
"Don't yell so loud!" Kageyama kicked the ginger in the back, annoyance spreading across his face.
"Hah! Says you!"
"Hm, okay then. I'll be going now, have a good sleep and make sure to eat and drink lots of water. Goodnight!" You called out, slinging your jacket around your shoulders and clutching your journal closer to your chest.
"Goodnight, gorgeous!"
"Same to you, Y/N."
"Night."
"Goodnight, L/N-san."
"Bye-bye Y/N!"
F/N followed after you, waving to the boys, her grabbing the straps of her bags. "So... don't you think those guys are like, super cool! They're so much fun to be around! Especially Hinata!" She jumped up, waving her arms around.
"I suppose. They're fun to be around, that's for sure. I enjoy their company." You hummed quietly, closing your eyes.
"Haha, looks like you're making more friends other than me, Y/N-sama!" F/N grinned brightly, her cheeks dusting a light pink. "Oh, my house is just around the corner. I'll see you tomorrow! I'll wait outside your house, okay!"
"Mhm, okay. Goodnight, F/N."
"Night!"
You kept walking in the darkness, thinking about what she had said.
"Haha, looks like you're making more friends other than me, Y/N-sama!"
Friends. Could you call them that? You've never had that many friends.
You thought about it a little more. Maybe you could consider them friends. You walked to your house and you decided to go to bed straight away.
