5 - FIRST FRIENDS

kawa says: cats are better than dogs!

.・゜-: ✧ :-

IWAIZUMI WAS, IN FACT, NOT F/N'S FIRST FRIEND.

And not her only one, either. Whenever she had referred to him being her first or only friend, she (i guess you're) referring to how he is her friend or only friend in her new school.

She actually had a few friends, apart from him. Back in her home, she was on good terms with this girl. She was a big video game lover, and often, whenever F/N would go over to her house, chances were that she was either playing against or ranting about this certain player, who boiled her blood.

"Ugh, F/N, you don't get it, he's super good! It's annoying! Whenever he gets in a server with me, he always comes out first! He has to be cheating or something! He constantly gets on the global leaderboard, too!"

She would always listen and watch intently, interested in how a person could be this dedicated to a game. F/N had a mental image on how this person would look in her mind... and it wasn't too pleasant, to be frank.

Maybe one day, she would play against or even meet this strange person, but for now, she was just worried about her friend in front of her.

"How do you know he's a... well... he?"

"Cuz we argued privately once, and he got all*PC on me, and said "Uh, actually, my pronouns are he/him, get it right." Well how was I supposed to know?! With a girly name like Kodzuken, I just assumed, gawsh!"

F/N would be lying if she said she still thought about this conversation. She just thought it was a nice memory of her and a friend.

At the airport check-out, she was seated next to a boy with two-toned hair. He also had a red sweatshirt on, with large writing of 'Nekoma', which she presumed was the school he went to.'

She didn't plan on making conversation with him until she had stolen a glance at his phone, which had a game she recognised on it. It was the game her friend had always played, a shoot-em-up game that required a ton of skill. He was moving so gracefully for a game like that, his nimble and quick fingers making it easy to assume that he was skilled.

The ending, or victory, screen played quickly after that and showed the top three people in the game that had acquired the most kills. He was number 1 by a large margin, and his username was...

"HUh?!"

Her surprised voice made the boy jump in his seat, looking to her direction with a scowl on his face. She didn't even notice his upset expression, only staring at his phone, pointing in shock.

"You're... you're... kodzuken!!!"

"Huh...?" Now he was confused.

"You're the guy who's godly at that game!"

"I'm... what?" He covered his face with his hair and looked away. People were looking. This was getting embarrassing.

"My friend, she- she... she always talked about you!!" She said breathlessly, a shy smile creeping up her face. The boy with bleached hair squinted his eyes at you, tilting his head ever so slightly. Her japanese was broken and her accent was wrong, but he could sort of make out what she were saying. "Her name was... uh... I think it was lumonine?"

"H...uh? Lumo... oh. I know them. They were upset that I kept killing them." He said with a blank expression, eyes trailing back to his phone, which was now turned off.

"She said you had to be hacking! Are you?"

"What? No." He gave you a pouty expression. "That's insulting. That's rude."

"A-ah... Sorry!" She bit the inside of her cheek and looked away. "Uh,... do you think you could... um... teach me how to play it? I saw you play, and it looked really fun!"

"Wha..."

"Please?"

"Ok-ay..." He looked away. "You're a weird foreigner."

"Ah-ha... I'll probably get that a lot." She smiled, tapping her legs restlessly. "My name is... L/N F/N."

"Kozume Kenma."

"Ahh!! Your username makes so much sense now! My friend called it girly before, but that's just your name!"

"Maybe some things aren't needed to be shared..." He glares at nothing and lets out a guttural sigh.

F/N swung her bag onto the floor, took off her shoes and ran upstairs. She laid down, her stomach facing the bed. She put her earplugs into her ears and turned on her phone, calling her Nekoma friend. He answered almost immediately, but it wasn't Kenma.

"Huh? Who're you?" The male from the other line asked, his eye scarily close to the camera. It was slanted and brown. He moved the phone away, now showing his face and hair which looked unbrushed.

"Ah...! Who are you..?" She asked, mustering up all her bravery to not hang up and cry herself to sleep out of embarrassment.

"You know Kenma?!" The male exclaimed with wide eyes. "Wait... KENMA KNOWS A GIRL?!"

"KENMA KNOWS A GIRL?!" Another voice repeated loudly. In the distance, you could see a bright pair of golden eyes shining.

The boy moved the phone back, now showing Kenma walking up to him with an annoyed look. "Leave F/N alone, Kuroo."

"YOU'RE ON A FIRST-NAME BASIS WITH HER?! KENMA WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME ANY OF THIS?!"

"Because you didn't need to know." The gamer boy answered with a blank look, staring up into the camera with an expression that she could only describe as that of a deflated balloon. "Sorry about him. I'm at practice."

F/N smiled. "It's okay! Getting to uh- meet new people can be fun."

"Hey, F/N, let's trade numbers!" 'Kuroo's' voice yelled loudly, making Kenma's face visibly grow agitated. He jumped up and down trying to grab the device from his friend's hands, but Kuroo was just too tall when he kept moving his hand up higher and higher.

"Talk to you later, F/N." Kuroo grinned, hanging up immediately.

That was her first meeting with Kuroo.

.・゜-: ✧ :-

F/N's next meeting was only a few days later when Kenma called her after school. It wasn't strange for Kenma to call her first (but it was weird for him to request facetime, but she didn't judge), so she answered. She looked close but backed up when she saw the not-so-familiar face of Kuroo. And another guy, who had hair sticking up like an owl. Even the colours matched that of the bird, he was really going for that look.

"Hiiiiii!!!" He giggled like a middle-school girl, smiling. F/N felt her face flush up with embarrassment.

"Oh my gawsshshshs she is real! Gimme your number!!" The owl boy beside Kuroo yelled, throwing his hands in the air and grinning. "I'm Bokuto Koutaro, and this big hunk is Kuroo Tetsuro! What's your name?"

"L/N F/N."

Just like that, the three traded numbers and made a group chat with them, Kenma, and another boy named Akaashi. They were actually getting along, starting to talk, and even got F/N to laugh a couple of times.

However, this obviously couldn't last. At least, not with Kenma's phone.

"ughhhhhshh... Kuroo. Did you take my phone again?" Kenma said. Anybody could've mistaken his voice for a debt collector, but sure enough, it was him.

"Ahaha... shit." Kuroo cursed, sending the girl a nervous grin. A boy, most likely Akaashi, sent Bokuto a withering look.

"Bokuto-san."

Bokuto giggled, waving his hand around and smiling nervously, "hiiiiiiii Akaashi...!"

"uh.. I'll hopefully see you later...! Pray for m-" Kuroo was cut off by something flying at him, and the call was abruptly ended. F/N watched in shock, but soon found herself laughing at the silliness that were those guys.
