4 - IN A DAZE

kawa says: vaccinate your children!

EVER SINCE THE SMALL TALK THEY HAD, Iwaizumi felt even more comfortable around the girl, now being able to smile around her more and talk freely. He felt himself get a bit happier whenever she entered his line of sight, or if she even just waved at him.

Oikawa, however, noticed a small change in his friend's attitude. He seemed more out of it, and wouldn't yell at him as much.

He would answer in short, almost dazed responses and would always be staring at the door longingly as if he was waiting for someone to burst through. Whenever practice was over, instead of waiting until Oikawa forcibly dragged him out, he would run out almost immediately and say he had to go somewhere.

He no longer walked down his normal route too, his parents had stated to Oikawa. It took much longer for him to get home and whenever he would, would always be on his phone with somebody. Whenever they asked who it was, he said nobody. They were thinking that he may of had a significant other.

Not to say the pretty boy wasn't happy about that, but still was a bit concerned at how his long-time friend was acting.

"Ugh....Iwa, why are you always in a daze? It's like, sooooooo annoying...do you have a girlfriend or something?"

-bonk-

"Shut up!"

Oikawa then held his head and looked up at his friend, tears grazing the corner of his eyes. "Why are you so mean?!"

"I wouldn't be mean if you weren't so stupid!"

Well, at least he was back to normal. Although, Oikawa didn't know if this was a good thing or not.

L/N, who had just gotten out of class, waved to a girl with who she was partnered up, then stuffed all her books into her bag quickly. She slung her bag around her shoulders, and then started to run to the gym. She pushed past people, always sending a meek sorry to them whenever she did.

Then, she got there. She was panting, as she just ran all the way from her class to there, and there she saw him. Instantly, she started to smile, then sat down on some bleachers and placed her bag next to her feet.

It was after school, Iwaizumi invited the girl to watch him and his team train. It was pretty interesting, at least, she thought so.

Iwaizumi looked towards the bleachers and saw her sitting there, grinning happily. She sent him a wave, making his face flush up, but nevertheless, he waved back.

L/N didn't know a thing about volleyball. I mean she used to play it at the beach when she was a little kid, but it's been that long that she just couldn't remember what it was like.

But watching it now was different to playing. They were better, far better than she expected or had ever been. It was no wonder they were head-to-head with Shiratorizawa, they seemed like they were just as good.

Though Oikawa was obviously being the star of the show, the female's eyes trailed away from him and to her one and only friend, Iwaizumi. He was underrated, from what she heard some girls around saying. And L/N undoubtedly agreed.

She would never usually focus on one's looks too much, but that man was just so attractive, that she could help but be drawn to staring. She wondered how he wasn't as popular as Oikawa. Then she thought about it, how the setter was the perfect pretty boy and how he overshadowed everyone on the team.

Soon, L/N watched as Iwaizumi sat down, her now running off towards him. She plopped down next to him, smiling sweetly as he drank from his water bottle.

"You're really good Iwaizumi-san!" She said and had the absolute audacity to stare him right in the eye as she said it with a grin.

Feeling words getting stuck in his throat, his heart just kinda stopped for a second. Iwaizumi felt heat crawl up his cheeks as he struggled to say a sentence. But like that's normal, right?

No, it isn't. You're screwed.

"Uh- thanks." He said quietly, now feeling even more sweat fall down his face, refusing to look at the girl.

"Hmmm? How about me L/N?" Oikawa, coming from seemingly nowhere, gave her a sly wink and a cheeky smirk. Iwaizumi turned to the setter, glaring harshly with a scowl.

"Huh? Oh, sorry, I didn't watch you." She brushed him off nonchalantly, still having a small smile. Sparing Oikawa a single glance before turning to Iwaizumi. Said boy feeling a large grin spread across his face. A girl that wasn't obsessed with Oikawa?

'Marry me, L/N.'

"Y'know Iwaizumi-san, some girls in my class say you're kinda underrated, and I agree! You deserve so much more attention, especially since you're the ace!"

Oikawa turned deathly pale and looked like he had seen a ghost, while Iwaizumi looked back at L/N, face slowly but surely turning red. He chuckled lightly.

"You really think I do?" (Headcannon: Iwaizumi is very awkward around girls ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶)

She nodded eagerly, smiling happily. "Uh-huh!"

"Whaaaaat?! How can you like Iwa-chan and not me?!" Oikawa cried out dramatically, hands on the girl's shoulders. L/N started to tremble as he towered over her, looking up.

"Shut it Shittykawa!" Iwaizumi felt a sudden protectiveness, hitting the boy on the back, and lightly grabbing the girl's hands and bringing her out of Oikawa's grasp.

However, with that simple touch, L/N's face was figuratively lit on fire. She was never used to holding hands, especially with a boy. Her heart started to pound in her ears, butterflies violently throwing themselves around in her stomach.

"You okay L/N?" Iwaizumi's (angelic) voice brought her out of her thoughts and ignoring her obviously red-tinted face, smiled, though it looked too genuine if you get what I mean.

"Me? Okay? Yeah, of course! Why wouldn't I be, I'm always okay with you!" L/N internally panicked, wanting to hit herself with how stupid she sounded. She didn't know holding a boy's hand had this kind of effect on her.

Why would he nor anybody fall for this stupid answer? He's probably going to think she's a freak after this, and she's gonna lose her first friend here, all because-

"I'm glad you're okay."

Oh.

Maybe she wouldn't lose him that quickly. And as much as she dug the feeling down in her chest, she felt a sort of fluttery feeling with his reassurance.
